I don't want them yelled at either. Yelling is for practice. I'm more interested in whether or not a different strategy was deployed. We pressured and double-teamed a lot in the 2nd half. OU picked us apart.

This group of Zips guards have never defended the perimeter well. You can yell all you want at halftime...it isn't going to change anything. IMO - The leash needs to come off Diggs. He needs more court time if he's going to get better. He has the size and speed needed to shut down a quick guard. Ditto more time for Egner...another athletic player that plays "fast." More Egner and Diggs...reduced time for McNees and Cventinovic. Not anything crazy...but a swap of 5-or-so minutes worth of PT each would be welcome.

If we play them on Day one, you may need to keep your Rowdy Rag at home on Day 2. OU put things together late (last season), but if you look at the talent they placed on the floor last night, the experience, and the depth, you should be scared. They are 2-0 in our last 2 meetings, and the next one is in Athens. 3-0 isn't luck...it would signal a trend. Would Bubba have gone "Dave Jamerson" against the Zips and scored 60 last night? We do not match up well against OU. They can shoot...and we can't guard. They also have the beef inside to negate Nik and Zeke.

Slightly paraphrased because it is late: "People picked OU to win our league this year. They got hot for two weeks last year, that's all. K.e.n.t's been winning for 12 years...we've been good for 6 1/2 years. We're the favorites." I wonder if that text was on a locker room wall somewhere tonight? OU is a really good basketball team. In my wildest dreams I couldn't see the Zips beating Georgetown in the NCAA tourney, and the Bobcats actually pulled it off, and only 10 months ago. OU is the real deal. We have no one that can hang with Cooper. Abreau tried to run smack with him and was promptly, and throughly taken to school. Cooper was double-teamed all night and almost effortlessly racked up 15 assists. He did whatever he wanted, while forcing Zips guards to make mistake after mistake after mistake. I hope this is a wake up call for the entire team and staff. That's the worst loss I can remember in quite some time, at least that wasn't an OOC opponent or K.e.n.t. No fun at the JAR tonight. Joyce/Dials/Middleton - where are you? Can anyone guard the perimeter? Is "My fingers are crossed and I hope he misses it" our new defensive mantra? Buffalo ALWAYS plays us tough in their house. Big-time gut check for the Zippers this weekend.

I would agree with that. I have heard KD in his post game interviews say this very thing more than a few times. It worked against David Kool. But not against that Cotton kid from Wisconsin GB. Diggs may indeed be the answer...but he was supposed to be our athletic "Ken.t equalizer," and he was totally ineffective Saturday night.

Can we hold Cooper under 40? I see us winning, but we've yet to prove we've improved our perimeter defense over the past 2 years. Scorers like Cooper continue to rack up video game-like shooting performances against the Zips.

I thought that comment was interesting also, too bad there wasn't a quick-witted reporter there with a good follow up to that. Can you think of one? "...and if my Aunt had nuts she'd be my Uncle! Coach 'em up, KD!" "Yeah...but Caleb will never know what it's like to beat K.e.n.t."

Quit sh!tting on the fans by booting them down by the Exchange Street railroad tracks for parking. Stop fantasizing about $5k donors filling Lot 9 and fill the damn thing with fans PERIOD. Funny how many thousands of man-hours were spent by UA fretting and legislating about alcohol on campus. For what? Idiots.

The Zips haven't done anything to merit a high ranking yet. No marquee wins...just won the games we should, and lost the games we should. And our wins haven't been by any sexy, "holy mackerel" spreads...we're winning ugly...against mediocre competition...which never impresses the pollsters. I hope we can get on a roll and get a quality Bracket Buster opponent.

Maybe? You have the former lead singer for Judas Priest sponsoring your team...he's 1.2 miles from the JAR...it is a no-brainer. You could actually make a fun promotion out of it that might put a few butts in the seats. What a concept.

Kudos to the Zips for getting the monkey off their back and finally beating K.e.n.t. Our defense wasn't great but in the end we found a way to win. That's the bottom line. Zeke was awesome. Abreau's defense-splitting layup at game's end was something I haven't seen from a player in a Zips uni since Rashon Brown. McNees played a nice game. Great job by the team. Loved the "I BELIEVE..." celebration with the Rowdies after the game. The soccer guys can't have all the fun.

Selected for the Big 33 Game I always enjoy getting a summer preview of a future Zips star in this game (usually televised on STO, but I think it was on NFL Network last year). I think the last Zips RB to play in this game was Brandon Payne?

He can carry the team when he's stroking his 3 with confidence...as we saw last season. And he can really take us out of games when his 3-point shot flies like a Phil Neikro knuckle ball.

The 3-star rating is from ESPN. I stand corrected. If the "stars" thing goes anywhere beyond Sneetches, I admit I'm probably not the best resource.

From what I understand, you are mostly correct. Had the student athlete taken a full course load (12 credits), regardless of any practice or association with the team, he would not be eligible after a transfer without losing a year's eligibility. I'll guess this kid did not take a full course load at Ball State in Fall 2010. Thus his 5-year clock has not yet begun. And he can play this fall, and three seasons thereafter. Actually, he could redshirt in 2011, and start his Freshman season @ Akron in 2012, with three years to play thereafter. I'm sure he expects to play this fall, however. The extra year's eligibility does give him the availability of a medical redshirt, should he get injured in 2011, 2012 or 2013.
