New GA to Help Coach Secondary
Captain Kangaroo replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Football
A former NFL player as a grad assistant seems like a coup? I wonder what classes he's going to take? -
Would it be heresy to start McKnight/Diggs, and have McNees be our "Microwave" 6th man?

On the two hot topics at-hand - OU isn't a bad team. They lost to a Guyton-reinstated K.e.n.t. team by 3. That will happen. They also lost in triple OT to a good Miami team. IMO - they had a lot of off-season turmoil that contributed heavily their early-season problems. They are playing decent ball right now, but not catching any breaks. If they can tough it out, they will be in the mix in March. With Cooper, it is pretty safe to say they will be in the mix. Beyond all that...they are a bad match up for the Zips. On topic #2 - We got smoked by Buffalo, at Buffalo, last year and we still made it to the MAC finals. There's still plenty of basketball to be played. My fear is - I really don't know if there's enough upside to the rotation that Dambrot has settled on? Abreu will improve. Zeke's having ups and downs, but improving. After that? Roberts is Roberts. McNees is McNees. McKnight is McKnight. Bardo is Bardo and McClanahan is probably playing at as high a level as he can. I still say Cventinovic's gotta lose some minutes to Egner. Either that, or start finishing around the hoop and playing more disciplined defense. We need to get faster and longer. So throw Diggs in there too.

Could Generation Adidas work for football?

You on the selection committee for this season? Reminds me of an old saying -- "I wish I could buy you for what you know, and sell you for what you think you know."

No one is complaing about the volume. If you think blasting that song, with the lyrics listed above, is appropriate for a college basketball game, you are ignorant. Period. Play the song in your car, your iPod...watch a girl swing around a brass pole while that song blasts in the background...I'm fine with it. But don't ask parent-coaches to bring their 3rd and 4th grade Kiwanis basketball teams to games where songs like that are featured entertainment. That's ignorant. It is ironic that we have standards on ZipsNation where profanity is banned. We don't want "Little Joeys" (young kangaroo) subjected to it. But some people who think profanity on our board is intolerable, seem to think it is perfectly fine to hear at Zips sporting events?

I think one problem that is puzzling to the typical fan, but probably explainable if you attended practice is - The kids that arrive at practice early, and stay late, get the PT. And those who don't practice hard find themselves on the bench. Regardless of skill level. To the fan, it appears like the coach has no clue. But he's rewarding those who put in the time. Ditto the guy that's put in 4.5 years is going to get the nod over someone that's been here 4.5 months. That's my only explanation for why Diggs isn't getting a few more of McNees' or Robert's minutes. I see a lot of trouble with this team if we don't work Diggs and Egner into the rotation a bit more. Ok...we're going 10-6 in the MAC regular season in a "bad" year, so it isn't like we're Eastern Michigan....but we have the talent to do better. Diggs fills a big defensive hole on the perimeter, and Egner can hopefully fill-in on nights when the unpredictable Cventinovic decides he wants to play like the bull in the china shop. Get those 2 guys some additional minutes.

What really matters, and all that I really want out of any "celebration is To tell the players who are leaving... THANKS for bringing us a National Championship. THANKS for coming to Akron. BEST WISHES for your future. I wish you MUCH SUCCESS. and those who are staying... See you in the Spring , at least for a few games, no matter where they are played, and I look forward to and will be there next season! Go Zips! +1 Excellent, excellent point.

Former Glenville DB transfers to Akron
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
There is a reason that Glenville has multiple major DI college players every year, yet can't win the state title. Lack of discipline and thugliness. If his football career doesn't pan-out, he can always be a lyricist for our dance team? -
-
From YouTube -- Thank you for the note. I’ve copied two of our staff members who oversee the Dance Team so they can address this issue. It is certainly not our intention to have offensive lyrics as part of our game-day experience. We appreciate your support and thanks again for writing. Go Zips!

No. I'm saying they blast "FUCK" when the dance team is on the floor. Sorry for the confusion. I think these are the words. Is this clear enough? - Yeah Yeah Class Heat I'm the sh*t Yeah Baltimore Club Music Yeah I'm The sh*t I got them diamonds on my neck Got patrone in my cup If you wanna come and get it Shawty I don't give a f*ck See it's Friday night And I just got paid I done had a hard week Now it's time To Celebrate Well the DJ played my sh*t Some of that club music sh*t Make the girls wanna freak Back it all up on my d*ck See it's on tonight Trying to leave with something right I'm a grown @ss man So Shawty you can spend the night

jupitertoo's post doesn't speak to the problem at hand -- The Zips do not match up with OU well at all. Nor do we match up with any team possessing skilled guards who can hit a wide open 3. I do not look forward to seeing Guyton back in a K.e.n.t. uniform at all. I don't care if OU is losing to Sisters of the Poor...they are beating the Zips. And like last season...the Bobcats are getting better as the season goes on. It also concerns me that the Zips are still playing terrible at home. I hope Abreau learned a lesson last night. One was certainly administered.
-
Two consecutive home games the dance team has strutted their stuff to a hot new tune where the second line is "I don't give a f#ck." Do they turn down the volume for that phrase? Yeah...and it's about as transparent as me using a "#" sign in place of the "u" above. Who in their right mind thinks that song is appropriate for a family venue such as a college basketball game? I looked across the arena at YouTube Tom, and he really seemed to like the profane ditty? Good for him. My wife complained to UA. I can't believe she was the only one. Who knew Dan Hipsher had a rap career?

This group of Zips guards have never defended the perimeter well. You can yell all you want at halftime...it isn't going to change anything. IMO - The leash needs to come off Diggs. He needs more court time if he's going to get better. He has the size and speed needed to shut down a quick guard. Ditto more time for Egner...another athletic player that plays "fast." More Egner and Diggs...reduced time for McNees and Cventinovic. Not anything crazy...but a swap of 5-or-so minutes worth of PT each would be welcome.

If we play them on Day one, you may need to keep your Rowdy Rag at home on Day 2. OU put things together late (last season), but if you look at the talent they placed on the floor last night, the experience, and the depth, you should be scared. They are 2-0 in our last 2 meetings, and the next one is in Athens. 3-0 isn't luck...it would signal a trend. Would Bubba have gone "Dave Jamerson" against the Zips and scored 60 last night? We do not match up well against OU. They can shoot...and we can't guard. They also have the beef inside to negate Nik and Zeke.
-
Slightly paraphrased because it is late: "People picked OU to win our league this year. They got hot for two weeks last year, that's all. K.e.n.t's been winning for 12 years...we've been good for 6 1/2 years. We're the favorites." I wonder if that text was on a locker room wall somewhere tonight? OU is a really good basketball team. In my wildest dreams I couldn't see the Zips beating Georgetown in the NCAA tourney, and the Bobcats actually pulled it off, and only 10 months ago. OU is the real deal. We have no one that can hang with Cooper. Abreau tried to run smack with him and was promptly, and throughly taken to school. Cooper was double-teamed all night and almost effortlessly racked up 15 assists. He did whatever he wanted, while forcing Zips guards to make mistake after mistake after mistake. I hope this is a wake up call for the entire team and staff. That's the worst loss I can remember in quite some time, at least that wasn't an OOC opponent or K.e.n.t. No fun at the JAR tonight. Joyce/Dials/Middleton - where are you? Can anyone guard the perimeter? Is "My fingers are crossed and I hope he misses it" our new defensive mantra? Buffalo ALWAYS plays us tough in their house. Big-time gut check for the Zippers this weekend.

We need a couple big JUCO WR's. We need them badly.
