Love the observation. -
While eating a Stromboli in the Student Union this afternoon, I turned around and saw Zippy standing right behind me. She was handing out flyers for the Milikin game, mentioning this promotion. So yes, they are marketing it. To students, even! I love seeing Zippy out and about among the students. Zippy was in an "Outback" type hat, right?

I've waited too long to give up on McClanahan. Big season for Nitro in 2010-11. I take him over Egner.

The guy has great WR's and one of the best offensive lines we've had in years. If he can't produce this season, he'll never produce. Man...if only we had Dylan Potts at QB.

"We're just re-arranging chairs on the Titanic." -- ZipsWin! October 2010 -
My favorite part of the Ball State game was Andy Alleman boldly proclaiming on 4th and 9, in the 1st OT, that the game was in the bag and he was "going do drive home to his fiancee's house, put his feet up on the table and enjoy the win." OH, ANDY!

I knew I came to the right place!

Except Punter.

Man, I was close on this one.

My Pick of the Year - Zips Beat Ball State. Alex Allen rushes for 100+. PN7 throws TD's to two of his own WR's. Zips 22 Ball State 19

+1. I don't see us being very good next year either. But we must simply be more competitive. The third year will be the telling season. Then, if iCoach fields a consistent contender, we'll all love him and tell people we knew he'd be a winner from the get-go. Explain to me how we could be less competitive than 2010? We lost to a bad 1-AA team, at home. We regularly get drilled by 30+. We lost the wagon wheel.

I noticed in another thread when KD went from 100% to 50% better on Zeke, so it's good to see that he's back to 100% better. Other Thread So how can it be that if Steve McNees shoots 3's instead of 2's, he scores 50% more points...but if he shoots 2's instead of 3's, his ppg drops by 33%?
-
3-point shots are worth 50% more than 2-point shots. Keep shooting, Steve.

Smart ass. Did they use my poster idea too? You're welcome, Tom.

The 2011 Recruits Thread
Captain Kangaroo replied to Quickzips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
I would hate to see Nik leave after this year, but I can certainly understand why he would do it. Basketball was a tool for him to get stateside and receive a quality education. Unless he is looking to go to grad school, it sounds like that goal will have been complete. Heading back home where there will be opportunities for him to play professionally would make some sense. I hope it doesn't happen, but if it does I can certainly understand why. Luckily for the Zips we are incredibly deep at the forward spots heading into next year with Euton, Egner, Treadwell, Harney, Diggs, Gilliam and Green. I think he needs to become a better player, if he wants to complete professionally. I don't care what the level of play is in Luxembourg, it's higher than what he's played at @ UA. -
Sometimes you are so close to your team that you lose some objectivity on the other teams in the MAC. Like Buffalo, Ball State is as bad as the Zips. It s simply a matter of whether or not Ianello can rally the troops, and whether Latina can figure out some way to score a point. Our defense will be fine against Ball State. If Ianello can coach, we beat Ball State and Buffalo.

I think people forget that. OU beat us once in three games last year, and it was a victory that needed extra time to accomplish. As far as OU coming out of nowhere, our only comparison is probably what we did the year before. Strange that the lowest two seeds to ever win the MAC tournament happened in the last two years. I guess it tells us to expect anything. If the Browns beat the Steelers twice in the regular season...and the Steelers beat the Browns in the AFC Championship game to go to the Super Bowl...who was better? Who had the more successful season? Teams either get better, or get worse as a given season progresses. OU got better over the course of the '09 - '10 season. In March, they were playing better basketball than the Zips. And that's when it counts. Not January. And here we are again....back to the argument that will be waged until the end of time. Who is better? The team that played better during the course of the regular season? Or the team who played better in the conference tournament? Answer this question - Would you trade the Zips 2009-10 season for OU's 2009-10 season? If the answer is "yes," then OU had a better season.

This is my only disagreement with what is a very well-written piece -- OU and K.e.n.t. were better than the Zips last season. I think it is very fair, for pre-season purposes, to rank the Zips behind them.
-
Fair enough. I'm simply trying to point out that anyone enamored with kids from all-mighty Glenville needs to look elsewhere for their savior(s). Unless Ianello is truly the unbelievable, uber-recruiter that he's sold everyone on...he's simply going to be wasting his time at Glenville. The good kids will be gone to BCS schools. And only marginal kids, grade-wise or character-wise, with offers only from UA, Ball State, Prep schools and JUCO's will be left. He can't afford to waste that time.
-
He is 100% right. I hope he can fix it. Icoach is correct. No matter if it is from Glenville, Buchtel, Hoover, Cardinal Mooney, etc., we need to get some of these players to Akron. If we had all those players from Ball State...maybe we could be as good as Ball State? Whoppee... History lesson -- Anyone remember when JD nabbed 3 kids from Glenville? Edit: None completed their eligibility at UA. The Zips aren't going to get better recruiting against the big boys who so grossly over-recruit schools like Glenville and Mooney. Ianello is going to have to work harder than that, and beat the bushes. JUCO, mid-and small-size high schools, Canada, Pittsburgh, and the Akron-Canton area as well. He's going to need to find stud athletes who want to play QB or RB, but whom the big schools want to convert to safety or linebacker. He needs to take an intelligent risk on a BCS transfer or two..or three. And obviously they need to sell a kid that's considering Pitt or Cincinnati...but who's certain to redshirt there...to come to UA and play immediately. We need more Richard Hall's. Not the #21 ranked kid on Glenville...which is all we can get after Ohio State, Iowa, Cincinnati and the rest of the BCS schools have their pick of the litter.

The famed Fried Chicken Tycoon?!

That would be a welcome surprise. He was playing the worst of any Zip at the end of last season. I like Nik...I hope the "light" turned on for him.

If I'm directing my comments at the same thing as K-Roo, and I think I am, it's a direct hit at their inability to draw attendance....whether they're bad or average. did the math and they need to average a tad over 11k for their final 3 games to reach that 90k mark. I saw the stands at the Ball State game. There were 2,000, if you rounded up. However, the box score said 16,000. With "tickets sold" being the reference number, they should have no problem with 11k/game. Local businesses are buying them up at $5/ticket, or less.
