It's funny...Dave in Green complains the ZipsNation moderators let everything go. He hates that the board is so recklessly under-moderated. RFR claims the board is some extreme dictatorship where every controversial post is censored. I'm sure both are 100% certain their opinion is 100% correct. Even though they are totally opposite. A few quick notes about the moderators: I pay for this site. ZipWatcher has also paid for a portion. In addition, he dedicates a lot of time to the board's technical and aesthetic upkeep. By paying for, and constructing ZipsNation, we get the privilege of moderating it's tone. Unlike most people who've whined and groused about Zips sports coverage over the years, we actually did something about it. We constructed ZipsNation. And 100,000 posts later, and over 1,000,000 views later, we feel is has been highly successful. The moderators take pride in the Zips program, and the image of the Zips fan. That's why we created our board independently, unlike K.e.n.t., who piggy-backs off the MACbbs board. We wanted ZipsNation to be "a cut above." We feel we've been successful. If a member posts something ignorant, or which reflects poorly on the image of a Zips fan, we reserve the right to delete it. RFR yukked it up on ZipsNation when someone hit a girl in the face with an ice ball after the K.e.n.t. game. He followed that up with a rant on the May 4th shootings, which has no place on a Zips Sports forum. Both posts were deleted. They reflect poorly on ZipsNation. Deleted or modified posts are extremely rare. Issuing a "warning" happens every one or two years. D.I.G is correct...we let pretty much everything go. We typically go months without touching a post. If your post was modified or deleted, you crossed a line. To summarize - If you don't like ZipsNation, no one is forcing you to read it. Or post. Since you didn't pay a dime for it... just walk away. We'll survive.

Quick, somebody get Michigan on the schedule.

Florida's 2 National Championships would disagree with you. I love to watch the 3-3-5 blitz packages. You can literally send people from anywhere. We did not execute it. Brings to mind an old John McKay quote: Reporter: "Coach - how do you feel about your defensive execution?" McKay: "I'm in favor of it." -
+1. Join the club. The Notorious D.I.G. claims another victim.

It was interesting to see Gary Pride listed as an RB. I would think the new staff has to be exciting for a guy like Pride, who probably wasn't ever going to move from his Special Teams role under the previous staff.

Anyone notice how poor a 2009-10 Darryl Roberts had...until the final two games...when he knew he was going to get the lion's share of minutes due to Humpty's injury? All the sudden he reverted to the "Florida State" Darryl Roberts? The Zips have struggled to find any player to embrace the 6th man role, except for maybe Steward. People talk about Linhart's leadership and scrappy attitude being missed. I miss the fact that he'd come off the bench and bust his ass. No one filled that role this season. BTW - What was the over-under on floor burns for the Zips this season? 5? Last year it was about 50.

If we get better offensive line play this season, and SOMEONE produces out of the backfield, PN7 will rule in 2010. His only major flaw is ball security...he holds the ball loosely when he runs, and subsequently fumbles too much. That should be easy to fix.
-
PN7 is - The Man. MR5 is a super kid. He'll be successful in whatever he does in life. But he's the #2 QB on this team. PN7 is - The Man.

The picture is actually pretty small and simple: It was the subject of a lot of conversation two years ago...but it isn't any longer. Why? Because the change has proven to be irrelevant. A two year sampling of hundred of teams and thousands of games has proven -- the 12" 3-point line change has done nothing to widen the gap between the "haves" and the "have nots". What's that GP1 line? Something like "...you want it to be one way, but it's the other."

Jabari Arthur looks to bounce back after missing the '09 CFL season.

Lower-level D-1 teams could never compete with upper-level teams. They lose by the same ridiculous margins today that the lost by prior to the rule change. The rule change affected nothing. Mid-major team compete just the same as they did before. In two years I've never heard any coach complain that the new rule affected their approach to offense or defense. The 12" movement of the line affected no one's ability to defend in the paint. High school girls with 95 lb bench-presses regularly shoot 35+% from 19' 9". 20 year old D-1 male athletes with 200 lb bench presses shoot equally well from 19' 9" or 20' 9". The shot is very easy.

It is easy to do. Look at the results. When steroids were eliminated in baseball, home runs visibly dropped. When the 3-point line was moved in college basketball, absolutely nothing happened.

Man...that really sucks for ZipWatcher. If Butler makes the Final Four, he doesn't get the $50.00 from woot? To be perfectly honest...Northern Iowa was ranked in the top 25 all season, so they exactly a mid-major either. That leaves St Mary's and Cornell. If Zach has any arguments to support these two not being mid-majors, woot might just be able to put the Ulysses S. Grant in the mail this afternoon?
-
Warning - Concise statement-of-the-obvious will follow: Movement of the 3-point line has had absolutely no effect on the overall ability of a mid-major to knock off a major program. Thank you.

I would like the Zips on-court performance put your opinion to the test one day.

In a world of uncertainty, there is too much on the line for schools to throw a game. Unless it is a Toledo football game.

What if we have a regular season championship, but lose to a 24-5 K.e.n.t. team in the MAC finals? What if Zeke went 18ppg/13rpg and led us to a legit 24-5 record, where we actually beat California and Dayton during the regular season? Just because we aren't NCAA tourney material today doesn't mean we need to resign ourselves to never being NCAA tourney material. If we continue to schedule weakly, and lose to all our decent OOC opponents, it is a moot point. But I refuse to resign myself to that scenario.

you stray from your point.your point is that moving the three point line adversely affects mid-majors.but you have no proof.i offer proof that it has not had any affect on midmajors.ithink it has had an effect of bad shooters like brettmcknight.but gud shooter's like steve mcnees never shoot with their toe on the line anyhow they always shoot from a foot behind the line.i wuld like to see you find any proof that midmajor teams fared worse in ooc play in 2009-10.you can waste your life searching but it will be fruitless.learn from me and not kenny roda or dork vitale.you will become a wiser more rounded person.the next time one of your friends tells you that the threepoint line hurtz midmajors tell him he is full of it and set yourself free.

Ok...fess up...who else fell asleep after reading the first sentence-and-a-half?

That is the "parrot," theoretical company line. The theory has not played-out in practice. Prove to me that moving the line has actually affected a mid-major's ability to compete with a high major? It hasn't. The proof is in this year's regular season. The proof is in this year's tourney. Saint Mary's Butler Northern Iowa Cornell If anything, it appears to have helped the mid major. The Sweet 16 has more mid majors than ever. Translation for RACER: that is the "parrot," theoretical company line, the theory has not played-out in practice.prove to me that moving the line has actually affected a mid-major's ability to compete with a high major.it hasn't.the proof is in this year's regular season.the proof is in this year's tourney. saint mary's butler northern iowa cornell if anything, it appears to have helped the mid major.the sweet 16 has more mid majors than ever.

I think this pretty well illustrates the argument. Many people on here have been equating athletic with good. The more athletic team seems to generally be considered to be the better team around here right now. I don't think there is anyone in the country that would say Cornell is anywhere near on the same page as Kentucky as far as athletes. Most wouldn't even put them in the same conversation with Temple and Wisconsin whom they handily disposed of over the weekend. It is difficult being a visionary..to not simply parrot what one hears on some pathetic local radio show or gleans from some wing nut's blog...but to come up with original, thought-provoking observations. But someone has to be that person. To all the Athletic Supporters on ZN I say - You are welcome. Why do I feel like GP1?
-
What's your point? The 3-point shot is a part of the game. If that is what it takes to beat a team, it's legal. Who cares if it is the only way to beat a team that can't defend it? How did moving the line back hurt Butler? How'd it hurt Northern Iowa? How'd it hurt OU? How'd it affect Medlock or Kool's game? Moving the line back did absolutely nothing to hurt mid-major schools.

I cut it out...it just didn't fit in the flow of the post. While it ended up on the cutting room floor, the line remains true. "Zips Basketball guy" can always call out a few fans for alleged anarchy against Dambrot or the Zips program. I sat in the lower reserved section, in several different areas because my son can't sit still...and everywhere I sat during that game you could hear disgruntled fans voicing discontent. In front of me...behind me...to the side of me. The team tanked it, and those 877 fans who care the most...knew it.

Once again, Zipboy proves why he's the top poster on ZipsNation. He's not just "defense," not just "offense," he's the total package. The one truth in the ZB post that bugs me is -- "If the schedule does toughen up, that will be a good sign as I see KD changing the schedule with how much he likes his team's chances." Dambrot has stated that's his scheduling strategy. He also stated that strategy cost Travis and Joyce a shot at the post season, when the Zips played a weak schedule their senior year. How do you know how you'll fare in a given season? Who can predict that youngsters will step up, or that Conyers will fulfill his potential in year #5? Why was the 2009-10 schedule so pathetically weak, if we were coming off an NCAA appearance, only losing one senior? By KD's formula, shouldn't we have been in "Tough Schedule Mode?" Playing weak OOC schedules does nothing for a mid major like Akron. Is Miami any worse off that Akron today? Is Cleveland State any worse than Akron today? The only difference, today, is Akron has egg on it's face because we participated in a tourney we really weren't worthy of entering. CSU and Miami's season records were actually indicative of their abilities and they sat at home instead of going to the CBI. Smart move. Play a tough schedule EVERY season. Not "stupid-tough," but tough enough that if you get 20+ wins, it is an accomplishment. And you can be proud of your post season bid.

Article on one of my all-time favorite Zips. Cool to see him doing so well.
