Sports Marketing 101: If you win, they will come. If you lose, they won't.Who's Got Extra Tickets!!??

Hence why the JAR rarely sells out, despite the Zips being an excellent team. Squishing together with a complete stranger in a 93 degree gym with your wife and kids ain't where it's at. At least for a lot of folks I know.Too few good seats at the JAR.

I'm your point man. Just keep in mind the whole UA tailgating topic is a big unknown right now (stadium and lot construction still has a ways to go). I've yet to see a good University map detailing 2009 parking/tailgating plans. It'll eventually become clear, but for now we're all in the dark.

16 Thoughts on the Wisconsin Game
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I was at the game, where were you?Look Mr. All-bold, I said "the kid played his ass off." I didn't say "The kid dominated," nor did I say "Boy, we didn't miss Bain or Lively." Stewart worked his ass off in a pretty impossible situation. He is a redshirt freshman walk on, playing in his first collegiate game, facing a top-notch Big Ten offensive line. He played a lot of minutes. From your air conditioned couch, I'm sure it didn't appear like the kid put in all that much work. From my seat, at the game, it was f*cking H-O-T. Easily 100 degrees on the field. You lug your 310 lbs around the field in 100 degree weather in full pads and push on 315 lb Big 10 linemen all day and tell me if you "look tired when you walk off the field." Pendleton is a walk on that apparently couldn't beat out Stewart for the #2 nose guard job. If you're thinking he's going to be the savior of the 3-3-5, you're nuts. By his lack of PT Saturday, and the past 2 seasons, he ain't going to be a factor.Harvey got shoved around just like everyone else. Hazime was the only one I saw that came close to holding his own. -
1.) Jack played better than I could have dreamed. We'll know if it was a mirage after this week.2.) Andrew Johnson can go from a dead-stop, to full speed quicker than anyone else on the team. Running out of the shotgun like we do, that's a nice trait to have.3.) I'm still not a Dennis Kennedy fan. 4.) Hasan Hazime looked the best of all our DL's. I hope he sees increased PT this Saturday. He was the 5th or 6th option vs. Wisconsin.5.) My prediction of Bryan Williams being the next Dwight Smith is looking great.6.) My prediction of Buffalo and BG sucking is looking suspect.7.) I wonder if placing 4 or 5 DL's on the line at a single time EVER crosses JD's mind? Just once I'd love to see a defensive "Jumbo Package" given a whirl. Last Saturday, what would it have hurt? Could it have been worse than watching PJ Hill run for 10+ yards, 20-something times?8.) Williams, Miller, Bowser and Bruce are a nice 4-receiver set. Put in Jones if we want 5 wide outs. Otherwise, keep him on defense. He looks like Jabari did when he was first converted to WR. Unlike Jabari however, Jones doesn't have 3 years to figure it out.9.) For the first time in recent memory I left a game happy with our offensive play calling. Unlike OSU last season, we tried to win the game and put up some points.10.) Thank GOD the long looks to the side lines before the snap (to get the play call in) appear to be gone. 11.) Jeremy Bruce looks like a Hendry clone with his north-south, bullet-style runs. He'll break a few this year.12.) Igor didn't have many opportunities Saturday, but he's banging the ball. He'll have a huge season if the offense can continue moving the chains.13.) Stec had a great game. He must have worked on something this past off season, because his hang time was the best I've seen. He's no longer just a directional kicker.14.) If he already doesn't have one, Cowles Stewart deserves a scholarship. He played his ass off on Saturday. Unfortunately, he's a freshman so he took a good beating too. Such is the life of a nose tackle.15.) OL made us go 15 yards for a 1st down instead of 10 5 times. That's not how you beat Wisconsin, nor is it how you beat Syracuse. If they aren't in tune this week, we'll lose. I don't care how bad Syracuse is, we'll lose.16.) I almost forgot -- my prediction that Evan Laube rules also is looking pretty good.

NSCAA Poll - 9/2/08 Edition
Captain Kangaroo replied to w00t's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
We smoke Notre Dame 3-0, yet ND stays in the top 10. If we'd have lost 3-0 to ND we wouldn't have seen the Top 25 for a month! -
Does the lack of an official announcement mean the hoops-scheduling Fat Lady has yet to sing?

Continuing on the MAC vs. Big East topic --Zips men's soccer beat Big East Notre Dame, Zips women's soccer beat Pitt and Zips volleyball beat Rutgers. If we can beat Syracuse this week in football, that would round-out a pretty nice OOC run vs. a BCS conference.Seal the deal, JD!

Wisconsin Tailgate Party in Madison
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
The team played hard. Losing two of our top 3 DLs hurt big time...we just couldn't stop the run.Other than the two passes following the 2nd and 2 I thought the play calling was good. MUCH improved over last year.I like our chances the rest of the way out.Overheard that Bain is not improving. Doubtful for Syracuse. Lively should be back.Bowser and Bruce are the real deal. -

Just got back to the hotel...Jesus I've never drank so much bovine-named beer. UW campus bars are PACKED at 12am! As the night wore on, more and more Badgers reponded to the Zips gear. All good fun. The 8am tailgate is gonna come WAY too early, I think. -

We've drank several great micorbrews thus far. Spotted Cow seems to be the favorite. People seem oblivious to my Zips gear.I said "Go Zips" to a 70 year old guy wearing a Zips hat...he stared at me like a spotted cow. Being a Zips fan ain't for the bandwagon lovers, that's for sure.More later... -

Here's hoping his debut is a complete and utter debacle

You don't see too many athletes leave a mid-major for a "major," but she did it

I'll go one step further regarding Elton -- About 2 months ago he wore a nice feature on Zeke. In it he mentioned ZipsNation. Well he did, except for one thing...he made a conscious decision to NOT say "ZipsNation." Instead, he chose to say "the Akron fan message board."Elton had a chance to score big with us if he wanted. It wouldn't have hurt anything, and I believe he mentioned Scout.com and Rivals.com in the same column, so it isn't like there's a policy against direct mentions of sports web sites. But, he elected to pass. Thus I'm not going out of my way to help the PD any more than I already do (by links, content, etc.). Beyond that, Elton has been a real jerk to the Zips in the past. Hence why so many people tag him as "Ellen." He's not a real "lovable" guy. He kind of relishes being a poor man's Steven A Smith. Good for him. But it rubs me the wrong way.

We will have a group of four Zips fans in Madison this weekend. If anyone would like to get together prior to the game, please PM me and we can exchange cell #'s. It would be great if we could get a group of 10+ Zippers together. We've done so @ MTSU, NC State, OSU, Maryland, Wisconsin, etc in the past and it is always a great time. Met a lot of great people!

Well, I was going to hold back, but after seeing your softball team lost to a team captained by Mike Rasor I feel nothing but contempt.*Moderator deleted bullshit*With that said, school is now back in session. Instead of going around and playing in golf outings, you should be out scouting middle schools far and wide for a softball team you can beat. Mike Rasor? Are you kidding me? You can't beat a team with a future lawyer on it? The shame must be unbearable. To answer the softball question -- The guys on my team are 97% guys I went to UA with 15-20 years ago. Our average age is 42, and Mike's team probably averages 26. If pretty happy we're competitive with them. They have a really good team. Regarding the deleted section of your post -When you are at your best, GP1, you have some funny and insightful posts. That's maybe 70% of the time. The other 30% ruins you. Everyone here is tired of the 3 GP1 shticks -Shtick #1: The "everyone on the board is a racist…"Shtick #2: The "Charlie Frye…"Shtick #3: The "Mike Waddell…"The deleted shtick fell under category #3. Except you went WAY over the line in fabricating lies about the moderators. That's bullshit. If you want to continue participation on this board, stop it. It is as simple as that.
