6-foot-4 quarterback Taylor Ogle

Could the bum ankle keep the big schools away?Read down about 1/2 way.

He could have been this guy.Pretty similar story, except he wasn't acquitted. 18 years of this guy's life wasted for something he didn't do. And I'm sure at the time 99.8% of the public was demanding the guy get burned at the stake.

November 18th is really early for a major OOC game. Good news -- Winthrop won't have much tape on us (we're a pretty different team than '07-08)Bad news -- Lots of new Zips faces with minimal game experienceHow many starters does Winthrop return. Are expectations high in Rock Hill this season?

Anyone here remember the game against K.e.n.t. about 8 years ago where Paul Winters had a center, Frye at QB, and everyone else split wide-out? Frye got sacked under a pile of K.e.n.t. defenders. It took about 2 seconds.

My random thoughts regarding the event --I wish it were held in the practice facility rather than the JAR. Too small.Nice job making it kid-friendly. Sno Cones, inflatables, cotton candy...all very nice. All the players were great. They all seems approachable and answered any questions.I didn't see Bain's air cast until too late. I can imagine it is too bad an injury, since he picked up Zippy and slung him across his back at the end of the even. He's one big dude. All the DL's looked...well...like DL's. None looked like tweener LB/DL's...we have as much size on our defensive line as any MAC team. Newbies like Dan Marcoux and Shane Shead looked like they put on 20 lbs of muscle. Lively and Pendleton seems to be in much better shape than in the past. Sewell will be a beast. VERY excited about or DL.Incoming Fr Joe Pechuta was about 30 lbs lighter than I thought he'd be. I can see why he's grayshirting. Looking at the upperclassmen surrounding him, predict he'll make a huge jump in body mass in the next 12 months.Jordan Miller is a thicker kid than I expected. He has a lot more muscle than Rodgers did at the same point last season.I wouldn't be surprised if Nate Schuler sees some playing time this year. He's bigger than I expected. Someone "stole' my son's autographed poster about half way through the signing on the offensive side (the tables were split offense/defense). Some guy just reached in and grabbed it in front of Andre Jones...never saw who did it. My son kinda panicked when he saw it was gone. Andre Jones got up from his seat..and it was really busy at the time...and helped track it down. It took him a couple minutes find it, but he did it. I have a new favorite Zip. He's awesome. The Chicago Tribune doesn't have as much ink as the Zips biceps. It's shocking to see a player without tattoos. Maybe that tattoo parlor next to The Sun Bar and Grill IS worth 3 million dollars by itself? Alex Allen switched to #10 (from #26) this year in honor of a HS teammate of his who died this past summer.De'von Moore indicated his knee was still not 100%Andre Jones mentioned his catching and route-running were going "really well," but he has a lot of work to do on his blocking. Bowser said his injury was "no big deal at all," but followed it with "I'll be good as new in a week or two." I was hoping for "...in a day or two."JD stated there was no way we'd finish where the "prognosticators" are predicting. He expects to compete for a championship. I'm going to hold him to that one. To be honest, this is the most size and depth we've had in memory. My two biggest concerns are QB (obviously) and LB. After Kevin Grant at LB, who knows what we've got? Balaam? Williams? Williams? Siler? We have a lot of LB's with little, or no game experience. Everywhere else, I'm confident we're ok.

So tell me this...is it physically possible that the marquee OOC game on Ohio State's schedule...the game that people have been talking about for a year in The Zips' State (formerly known as The Buckeye State) somehow slipped unnoticed past those responsible for determining the Zips home game start times? That, last week, someone from UA looked at the local sports section and said" Wow...OSU plays USC at 8pm the same Saturday the Zips play Ball State @ 6pm...who knew? Better change our start time." PLEASE tell me there isn't anyone of authority at UA capable of that one.If my season tickets say Ball State: 6pm, I'll puke.

Dix Stadium Vandalized?
Captain Kangaroo replied to johnnyzip84's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I just hope they steer clear of our palatial bathrooms! If they tear down the shower curtains or pull off that one remaining toilet seat, I'll be livid!! -
For those who may have missed the original thread.

Dix Stadium Vandalized?
Captain Kangaroo replied to johnnyzip84's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Headline: Dix Stadium VandalizedSub headline: Net Result -- $15,000 ImprovementMy favorite part: You can tell from the K.e.n.t practice photo in today's Record-Courier, Julian Edlemann is P-I-S-S-E-D!! -
That definitely stood out to me as well. With skin cancer an increasing concern, I can certainly understand JD wearing one. But I do wonder what the "old school" coaches would do if they saw it Yeah, you'd never see one of those old school coaches in a goofy hat...And the ugliest coaches hat of all time goes to --

Driving Charlotte to Akron can be done in 7 hours. Maybe a little less. The HOF is a sand wedge off I-77, and UA is probably driver, then a 3-wood. It is a straight shot from NC...you may not even need to use a turn signal the entire trip.Priceline.com a flight from Charlotte to CAK. Lowball the bid and see what happens. That, or rent a Honda Civic for the weekend. A bus would be brutal.

Love the suit!!! Nice feature. I wonder what Larry Pantages thinks about that one?

Excellent pick up DrZ!Some of the generally stupid commentary on this board this week has centered around taking risks on kids. Some would say that a guy like this should not be signed because he would not be able to succeed academically. In a twisted leap of faith, the same type of thinkers would say that he should not be signed because he had to go to a prep school and we just can't take a risk "on a kid like that". Others would say that since he did not go to Pitt, he would be a problem at UofA because he would be selfish (this is actually a potential problem, but it seems as if JD has that under control). I scratch my bald head at this thinking. Here is what we have with Williams....He is a completely unselfish kid willing to do what is best for the team. While he may not be Dean's List material, like the great GP1 was for undergrad and graduate school, he is holding his own. He has not been a single problem and is showing good leadership skills with the acceptance of this move. I'd like to take a minute to thank Mr. Williams for flipping the bird (figuratively) to the narrow minded bigots of the world. If this kid is a risk, let's take more risks. Please click here while reading GP1's post.

Here's one of those "lock it up" statements that always come back to bite me...but this time it won't:Bryan Williams will have the impact on our defense that Dwight Smith had several years ago. Williams is a game-changer with the ability to score every time the opposing QB throws the ball his way. Just like Dwight. In the spring game he played on a completely different speed than anyone else. The guy was born to play defense, and I think his performance will be worth the price of a Rubber Bowl admission in-and-of-itself. Just like Dwight.I also think the remainder of our secondary is excellent. Jalil Carter is awesome. He'll shine this year. Armin "Kaboom" Kabir is a huge hitter. These guys made Andre Jones' move to offense possible. Brandon Anderson is one of the more gifted players on the roster. With Corner and Tate gone, it is his time to shine.Between the remainder of the DB prospects, SOMEONE will inevitably step up. If DaVon Moore's knee is ok, I'll say it's him. Maybe Will Flemming has a nice camp and gets into the mix at safety? Marvase Byrd is a tremendous talent. I think he'll push the upperclassmen for PT. Miguel Graham is a senior with experience. And my dark horse candidate for a breakthrough year is Evan Laube. He hits hard, hustles his ass off and also seems to have a nose for the ball. I like him.Go back only a few years to see when we had Dwight Smith and...Buehler...Buehler...anyone...? Jesse Smith was our #2 CB for 3 consecutive years and he wouldn't be #4 on this defensive backfield's depth chart. At safety for 4 years...John "Tip Drill" Fuller. To quote Dennis Hopper -- "Bad things, man. Bad things..."The fact that we go 2-deep on our DL for the first time in history is also going to help the DBs.The defensive backfield doesn't worry me in the least this season. I think it will be a strength. Quarterback? *shudder*

UA may end effort to acquire properties for dorm
Captain Kangaroo replied to bigham78's topic in Akron Zips Football
That would be justice. The Nemers would be stuck with $150,000 in legal fees, and also need to begin paying taxes on $3.1 million dollars worth of property. -
I heard that KC Patterson decided to hang up the cleats and focus on his degree. I wish him the best.

1.) Fumbles McLollypop is now gone.2.) Like I said, half of BG's starting defense is in jail. And they sucked. How bad are the guys behind those sucky starters? I look forward to finding out. I just hope CJ11 doesn't get suspended before the game like he did last season.
-
Didn't they lose 65-0 in their 2008 bowl game? And they lost about half their defense to arrests in the off-season. I see BG scoring some points this year, but not near enough to match what their defense will yield. They'll suck.

If he finished last in the MAC East with the talent he presently has, I'm sure JD would even admit he's got to go. BTW - No way in hell we finish in last. If we finished dead last in the MAC East in 2008, I think a lot of people would be willing to take their chances with a new coach. 5-6, followed by 4-8, followed by "dead last" ain't the progression you'd like to see if you want to pay off a new 60million dollar stadium. You are dead-nuts on.

You must have linked to the wrong column, because the story I read wasn't nice at all.The writer was too big a wuss to take a stand. If you think it was a travesty, then say so. If it is a triumph for justice, say so. To just be wishy-washy, and use innuendo to make UA look like some rogue college is BS.
-
That would be cool if he decided to "go his own way" and attend K.e.n.t. I'd better not see Dru at and K.e.n.t. games sporting K.e.n.t. gear, however!

What happened to this guy?
Captain Kangaroo replied to KentZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
That's a good catch on the roster. I know that Larry Dawson was VERY highly thought of at the beginning of his senior HS year. Rather than take an early Zips offer, it seems he got some bad advice and waited for something better to come along. He had a pedestrian senior year, and the "better" offers never materialized...and the ones that were on the table ended up going to other players.I'm guessing Dawson is walking on. If he gets back to where he was his Junior HS year, he'll earn a scholarship eventually. Beyond athletics, he is apparently a VERY bright kid too. I hope he pans-out.
