I disagree -- He's pretty much played EXACTLY like the same running back we saw last year. A short yardage specialist who doesn't have "home-run" moves or speed. I've always liked DK inside the 10 yard line. But other than that...he's never been too impressive.

Actually, they switched over to about 3 minutes worth of COMMERCIALS, then they made sure no one missed a minute of the all-important OSU/Northwestern PREGAME.What a bitch-slap to the 50,000 UA and Can't State students, and 100,000 or-so alumni in the area. UCONN Message Boards & Game Day
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Thanks for checking in! The guy that put together the tailgate info is an animal. Holy cow! I will put it to good use.On question: As of right now I'm staying near the University. I like a University environment better than the city (which I know is a lot closer to the stadium). Is there a "can't miss" bar area around the University? A nice, dirty place that has a big microbrew selection and a near by pizza or wing joint? The BW-3's of the world are nice...but they're a dime a dozen. Any tips on a good, unique-to-UConn campus bar area is appreciated. -
I will be at the game this Saturday. If anyone is looking to participate in a pre-game tailgate party, let me know (use the board's Personal Message option). Over the years I've met a lot of great Zips fans at these road games. But due to a lack of any coordination, we only meet in the stands...the Zips' pre-game parties are typically spread out far and wide. The game unfortunately begins at noon, so my wife and I will be in the parking lot with Zips flag flying by 8am! UConn seems to have two active message boards. One on Rivals, and one on Scout. The links are below:Click for Scout.com SiteClick for Rivals SiteObviously a few of their members have already located our site.

I only worry about it because I don't want 20 squad cars hassling the Akron fans about garbage. No better way to kill a tailgate party. If the University and City feel the garbage is a cost of doing business, then it is fine. But University's and City's have been known to overreact to this stuff in the past.Only 3 home games left in 2007 anyhow...and thanks to the brilliant scheduling, two are on weekdays, so the attendance & subsequent garbage won't be near what we saw on Saturday.

I can't blame anything on K.e.n.t. fans. We outnumbered them 20-1 in that lot. Maybe more. If the place was a wreck, it is our fault. I agree with Bleacher Bum -- We have it pretty good in that lot. The environment was AWESOME Saturday. We need to keep the place in decent order or the Administration will enact some stupid policy that screws us. It should be common sense to keep the lot clean and bag your garbage...just like it should be common sense for guys in my office to lift the toilet seat when they take a leak...but apparently a lot of people are just flat-out slobs. My solution: Have the parking attendants mention "Keep the Lot Clean" when people pull in the lot. Put up a sign or two too. And if someone next to you is being a slob, hand them a garbage bag.

You're a genius. And someone had complained there was no humor on this board?

Beware washing the shot glasses. The letters peel off as soon as they get wet.

All pretty legit points. We beat K.e.n.t. with:* A Soph QB in his first start* A Center in his first start...and an OL where Kemme was the only player with any experience* A WR corp that had lost 2 of our top 3 players from '06Our offense is SO unbelieveably young. Yet we put up 27 points against the MAC East's *allegedly* #1 defense. No Nate Robinson on D...and he had a tremendous start to the season. (he'll play at UConn, BTW). No John Mackey. We basically went into the game and beat K.e.n.t. with one hand tied behind our back! This was a game where Brookhart shines over Lee Owens. No way in hell an Owens' led defense makes that stop at game's end. Our offense is a sometimes-ugly work-in-process...but the defense is steller, and that should win us a lot of ball games this fall. BTW : UConn WAXED Pitt in Pittsburgh last night. I turned it off when they were up by about 30 pts. Our offense is going to need to play like they did in the 2nd half vs. K.e.n.t. if we're going to have a shot.BTW2: CMU got blown out by a 1-AA team on their home fieldBTW3: Miami got blown out 42-0 at Colorado...after losing by 37 at home vs. Cincinnati

His post meant: YSU doesn't have a BCS ($700,000) pay-out game scheduled for 2009. Thus there might be an opening to play the Zips. While the Zips would only pay about $175,000-$200,000, it would be a bus trip for YSU and a good recruiting tool for them in Akron. If no BCS school picked up YSU for 2009, it would make a lot of sense for them to come to Akron. If they find some BCS school who'll pay them $700,000 to get mauled, they should probably take it.
-
It is (or, would be) a 7th home game. And it would be a sell-out.We will have a brand new stadium and you don't want to use it? I don't understand. We need to finance our stadium somehow. We need to funnel money to the new businesses surrounding the stadium. If we have the opportunity to utilize the facility, and sell the facility out, we MUST take it. It is smart business.
-
If YSU came to Akron in 2009, that would give us 7 home games for the inaugural season. How can anyone complain about that? That would include the following guaranteed sell-outs:K.e.n.tYSUIndianaObviously the other games would draw very well too.A seven game home schedule with three guaranteed sell-outs would be a great way to open 2009!

I can think of worse ways to make a million dollars. Derek Anderson's gonna get the snot beat out of him for less than 1/2 that salary.

Should players be reading these forums?
Captain Kangaroo replied to zip8's topic in Akron Zips Football
Why not?Say you're an Ohio State player. Should you turn off the television, the local TV, ESPN...not listen to the local or national sports talk...not read the local papers? In a city devoid of ANY media exposure for the local D1-A sports program, we talk about it 24/7/365. The various coaching staffs should be grateful that we've created a forum to get people excited and talking about their programs. And I think 95% of the coaches like ZipNation. I believe most student athletes take it for what it is and have fun with it too.If your offense punts 13 consecutive times...and if you're involved with the Zips offense personally...you probably should avoid clicking on a post titled "Our Sucky Offense." But if you do click on it...you should be objective enough to say..."If I were a fan, I guess I'd be pretty miffed if my team went 50 minutes without a first down too."We make certain to keep the talk here as clean, informative, "pro-Zips" and entertaining/stupid as possible. If I were a Zips player, I'd check it out. -
Skip-zip. I understand your point. Again, you are missing mine. Please reread it.I never said he was garbage. My point is just that the only thing the Browns could get for him is a 6th round pick. This has nothing to do with salary. $1M in NFL terms is nothing.IF any other team really wanted him they would have given up more than a 6th round pick.I will make this easier to understand. If Peyton Manning was going to be traded by the Colts right nowDo you not think the Colts would get a whole hell of a lot more than a 6th round pick for him in a trade? He makes umpteen million. However, the Colts would probably get 2 1st round picks and other stuff too. I know it's apples to oranges. Bu that is my point.I never said nobody wnats Frye. I said nobody wants him enough to give up more than a 6th round pick. Salary has nothing to do with it. My analogy, and maybe this hits home, is:Say you are Ohio State. You have a game that is worth $700,000 to an opponent. That opponent only gets paid $375,000. That doesn't mean the game wasn't worth $700,000. Obviously it was...two opponents are known to be receiving that cash. It only means that Ohio State received a pretty good deal.Just because they paid for it with a 6th round pick doesn't mean that's what he's worth. In my opinion, the Seahawks got a great deal, giving up a 6th round pick for a 25 year old QB with 19(?) NFL starts under his belt and a 64% completion percentage last year. The Browns are Half circus/Half Iraq. Frye's the lucky one...he's went from that situation, to a Super Bowl contender, in one day. Browns fans are stuck watching clowns and ducking mortars for the next several years. At least the Browns will have a top 5 draft pick to work with after this 3-13 season is over...wait...that's gone. We'll...they at least have a second rounder, don't they?Remember that episode of Bugs Bunny where Bugs single-handedly took on the Gorillas? It was "Bugs Bunny at first base, Bugs Bunny at second base, Bugs Bunny in center field..."Unless it's "Brady Quinn at quarterback, Brady Quinn at offensive tackle, Brady Quinn at defensive tackle, Brady Quinn at cornerback..." the Browns are, yet again, in a HEAP of trouble. Ken Dorsey as a "mentor?" Wow...
