Last night's game was an unfortunate loss and it frustrates me to see all the bloggers trashing OUR team. Considering where we were two years ago, this program has seen a huge turn around...first 20+ win season in forever (21 wins...I don't count the wind against a D-III school); we were undefeated at home; we made it further in the MAC tournament than ever before; we should still get a post-season bid to the NIT; and next season's prospects look even better. While it's expected that some people are sore over a loss and the manner in which it happened, we shouldn't be pesimistic or questioning KD's abilities as a coach.Peterson should play much more than he does, but other than that, games like the one against UT happen. It's a reality of a long season and a tough stretch run.Keep in mind that with football, we just happened to be on the lucky side of the tie-breaker...had that gone against us, our basketball and football seasons would have been nearly identical...a good season with games that should have been won.Besides, I'd rather see us win a few games in the NIT tournament than get embarassed in the national spot light of the NCAA. Next year is our year to shine at that level.

Yes, Toledo is on a roll; however, the depth of our bench and the willingness of players to step-up lately should be enough to overwhelm the Rockets. A five point victory sounds appropriate although it could be close coming down the stretch. Can't's got a tough one coming up against Ohio:)...let's hope for a four overtime game!... :macc:

What else would one expect from a Can't State student?...Although unfortunate, the numbers (that were described) are accurate. However, this person forgot to mention our #6 ranked I/O Psychology program, all our recent MAC Championships, and our #2 ranked wireless computer network. UA also graduates the highest number of chemistry PhD's in the state, is very well respected in all fields of engineering, and has one of the most beautiful URBAN campuses in the country with a REC center and field house that are generally regarded as the most elite facilities anywhere. The reputational score from US News and World Report is something that takes a long time to change although I have no doubt that in the near future, UA will be regarded as superior to Can't based on such methodology!I have felt the need to defend UA as an entire institution from these Can't savages although this forum is for sports related items where we are clearly superior! :macc:

Where's Antonio Gates at now?
-
Stop being so pesimistic...that's precisely what plagues this team and the collapses of the past!...BTW Joyce's first name is spelled Dru.

Where was Antonio Gates when Can't lost to Toledo? Just like a typical band wagoneer...only getting on our case when we have a bad game. The truth is, there is little or no disparity between Akron and Can't as evidence by how similar the two team's records are the current MAC standings. The team that earns the right to move onto the NCAA Tournament via the MAC Championship will be a toss up and is totally dependent on which team is better on that day. The other team will more than likely get an NIT berth.

Gozips.com and the Big East confirm that the Big East Track Championships will be held at UA's Field House this coming Saturday and Sunday. What a great way for UA to incorporate itself into a major conference! Hopefully, this is a first of many larger steps towards being invited to a more prestigous and successful conference like the Big East. In the meantime, let's win as many MAC Championships as we can.http://www.bigeast.org/ot/bige-championships.html

No one would closely follow ice hockey or wrestling. Hockey would be too expensive and Can't State already has a wrestling program and if we were the new kids on the block, our program would surely be lower on the totem pole. That would be like Can't adding men's soccer...they wouldn't do it because we're too dominant.Woman's sports have about as much following as low profile men's sports. I like the idea of adding woman's golf and men's tennis as we already have programs for the opposing gender. Therefore, new facilities wouldn't be required and we'd be strengthening another one of our existing programs with single additions. The UA name brand will then be associated with golf and tennis as well as some of the other stronger, higher profile sports such as football, basketball, and soccer.

Sorry...I forgot the link to the rankings...http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/rankingsindex

Zips men's basketball has received 8 votes in the AP Top 25 Poll and 1 vote in the ESPN/USA Today Poll. I'd love to see us with a national ranking before the season is over as its great for recruiting and advertising of the university. However, a 20+ win season and a post-season appearance would be more satisfying!

The name of the man is Paul Garofolo, president and general manager of the Cleveland Force.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that there are talks of building a new MLS soccer stadium on route 8 in the Macedonia area:http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/...4050.xml&coll=2UA administration should be all over this trying to make it a collaborative effort to build a joint stadium on campus. It would be such a waste to build two new stadiums less than 30 minutes apart when both parties are struggling to find resources. The UA campus is the ideal location because it is at the crossroads of route 8 and two other major interstates (I76/77) and would also be able to draw from the Canton area.I would imagine that having an MLS team on campus would also work wonders for soccer recruiting and winning a national championship!...i've already got a team named picked out for the MLS team if it were to be on campus...CAC United...Cleveland/Akron/Canton United...United We Stand in every sense of the phrase. If you have connections, please contact UA officials about this venture!I definitely want to read fresh posts about this issue as well!

Let's do anything we can to keep KD...we've already lost one good coach this year in Lolla.

I we could add a sport what should it be?
UAZipster0305 replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Hockey is a bad idea...too much financial investment required and little community interest...Cleveland barely supports a minor league team!Men's Tennis or Woman's Golf...perhaps Men's Swimming and Diving...although one would have to find a way to ensure that men's and woman's scholarships were equal. We already have programs for the opposing gender and to add them, additional facilities wouldn't be needed. However, replacing the slum area south of campus with a golf course would be a dream come true. What student wouldn't want a dorm, residence hall, or apartment on a golf course! Let's expand the campus map to include the area enclosed by Route 8, I76/77, and Wolf's Ledges. The cross country teams would also benefit by an on campus golf course because running trails could be integrated (that's what the University of Michigan does).I think faculty and students would also appreciate an indoor tennis facility behind the rec center. -
Another user posted this link in response to a topic. I feel its worthy of more attention than that and is as follows:http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/mac/home.htm

That's a great question; however, I don't know where to get an answer. Soccer recruits weren't made public even during Lolla's tenure.

6-3 in the last 9 games...a loss each away at Can't and Buffalo and a loss in the Bracket Buster...if we don't win more than 6 of these games including the Bracket Buster and don't win the MAC Championship, there will be no NCAA Tournament. However, I like our chances at the MAC Championship and the NIT isn't a bad consolation as we could win that whole thing.

I agree about the 2005 team under achieving in the W-L columns. Army and Ball State were two games that should have been won. However, we got screwed on the goal line call against Ball State. I must say though that the fortunate season ending championship birth and win more than made up for the other two games.

Soccer Coaches
UAZipster0305 replied to UAZipster0305's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
To an unbiased person familiar with the soccer community, Shaun Docking remains the best coach we could hope to get at Akron. He is by far the most qualified candidate. I'm not enthusiastic about any of the others; however, Agoos does bring professional experience and a big name to the men's soccer program although after last season the program should be able to sell itself.Even if he doesn't return, its nice to see an alum having such success. -
What ever happened with Coastal Carolina's head coach and UA alum, Sean Docking, as a potential candidate? That school, which isn't a powerhouse and is relatively small, has been to several consecutive NCAA tournament births under his direction. He is also very well networked in the national soccer community. Imagine what he could do with a national power like UA!Here is his bio: (http://www.goccusports.com/menssoccer/?coach=81)I emailed him encouraging to apply. Other concerned Zips soccer fans should do the same: sdocking@coastal.eduWho are these other guys?...Isn't UA at a level in which it can command a proven coach with past success as a HEAD coach?...Sean Docking is the man...I hope he politely declined an offer because if the administration past him up, I'd be furious!I hope the coaching change hasn't hurt our recruiting!
