  1. Great find!Kick ass, we may be getting a huge upgrade to the soccer facilities as well. For a nationally ranked program, our field doesn't even come close to the fan experience of some of the other great programs (UNC, UConn, Creighton, yes, Creighton, PSU, IU, UVA, etc). I hope the improvements include new lights BEHIND the fan seating areas, a more stadium like feel, and a new press box that matches the architecture of the rest of the new buildings on campus.
  2. We had 14 turnovers with ~ 3 minutes left...that will hurt us against a good team.Good win anyhow!
  3. The gametracker we have has great graphics, but the stats on it suck. There is actually play-by-play on ours though. Personally, I prefer the real-time stats to the play-by-play.Can't has the same format as BU and we all know that

  5. We're not exactly playing mistake free ball either...8 turnovers so far. That should be our total for the whole game against a team like this! ...Random, but always true!
  6. I forgot to include this:http://www.collegesoccernews.com/
  7. Just to let everyone know, the only bad loss our men's soccer team had this year (5-0 season opener at the Virginia Soccer Classic) was against the school that won the National Championship this year, University of California, Santa Barbara. One of the other tournament teams that did surprisingly well this year was UNC-Greensboro who we beat badly 4-0 at the end of the season. I believe they made it to the Sweet 16.This further proves that we got screwed in not getting a bid to the tournament! At least we all know that !
  8. I should also mention that a joint venture on campus would be a great venue for NCAA basketball regionals (men's and women's), the NCAA soccer final fours (men's and women's), and the MLS Cup. Imagine how much revenue would be generated for the city and area businesses to host events like these!Again, this all makes too much sense and would be way too good to be true.
  9. I totally agree that this stadium on Route 8 for soccer is a stupid idea and I'm a huge fan of the MLS. Whoever said that this sounds like the Coleseum all over again, kudos, you've hit the nail on the head!I personally mentioned to Dr. Proenza in his office over two years ago that the University should work with the Wolstein group to put such a facility and an MLS team on campus to maximize resources. Imagine what this would do for our soccer programs, the money that can be put into the new stadium, and the events it can host (because of the potential roof). Hell, with a retractable roof we could have a bowl game in Akron...The Rubber Bowl, anyone? This facility could be designed to be flexible enough to be capable of hosting an MLS soccer team in the Spring and Summer, UA football in the Fall, and UA basketball in the Winter. The schedules work out so well and this makes so much sense! Also, imagine how much parking revenue (from extra MLS events) could be raised to pay off existing or fund future parking decks on campus.I understand that the Wolstein group and the MLS want an expansion team as far from Columbus as possible, but 10 miles isn't going to make a difference in attendance or fan base. I also understand that this issue comes down to ownership rights and control. The Wolstein group doesn't want to share and I'm sure the university feels the same way. However, without cooperation, neither party will achieve its full potential if both stadiums are even ever built! As a name for the new MLS team, what does everyone think about CAC United (where CAC would stand for Cleveland-Akron-Canton)? Akron is the geographic center of the fan base and thus, gets the stadium.
  10. Gotta love the Smurf Turf! Let's hope that our new stadium has some unique features like that, which give the program and stadium some national level character! If so, what do you think such features would be?
  11. They become college coaches because they have a passion for what they do for a living. Anyone who has seen the movie Office Space or can relate to it knows exactly what I'm talking about.
  12. johnnyzip84, you must be referring to the Scarlett and Grey.
  13. If incentives clauses are included, perhaps they will.
  14. It's official; however, outside of the 5 year time frame, terms of the deal weren't specified.http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/15960832.htmhttp://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...0&ATCLID=681881
  15. We played both CMU and WMU, so I think we'll have the 3 way tie breaker if it comes down to that. Keep in mind the western division opponents were as follows:Akron: CMU (5-0), Toledo (2-4), WMU (5-1); Overall Western Record (12-5)Can't: Toledo (2-4), EMU (1-5), Ball St (3-3); Overall Western Record (6-12)Ohio: NIU (3-3), WMU (5-1), EMU (1-5); Overall Western Record (9-9)I believe the three-way tie breaker would work in our favor because we have the stronger Western schedule by far. Thus, the best way to look at the outcome of the NIU-Toledo game in relation to us is to say that in the event of a three-way tie breaker, we just picked up a full game on Ohio. However, we have to do our part and win out! If we don't, this is all academic. Like last year, we have to do our part and hope that Can't and Ohio falter down the stretch.
  16. I'm not the only one who thinks a strong case could be made for Akron to be in the NCAA Tournament. It appears Ohio State got screwed too.http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index_files/page0483.htmI think the comment that the tournament be increased from 48 to 64 teams is a terrific idea although there will always be bubble team controversy.
  17. Gardner-Webb and Bucknell probably won there conference tournaments. I'm really surprised and disappointed that we didn't make it. There doesn't seem to be any respect within the selection committee for Akron's Men's Soccer program. Remember last year when we got screwed when it came to the seeding? You laugh about Louisville not making it, but give Lolla a few years to build the program and I'll guarantee they're a perenial qualifier for the NCAA Tournament as Akron was for the 4-5 years prior to this won.I hope this doesn't hurt recruiting and your prominence on the national stage.I'll still give Coach Porter another season before judging his ability to coach and recruit. The transition is never easy and this is yet another example.I'm cautiously optimistic that we'll be back strong next year! Go Zips!
  18. Not true! We're projected to get an at-large bid to the tournament. Once there, this team has the potential to beat any other school in the country. Whether that can be done over the course of the six or so games it would take to become national champions is another story. Please see my source:http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index_files/page0475.htm
  19. Today's game wasn't listed under live stats. Thanks anyhow. If anyone else knows how I may obtain a real time update, please let me know. I'll be monitoring this post until the time the game should be over.
  20. Is anyone watching the MACC game live on TV right now? I'm not in the NE Ohio area and thus, don't have access to any information regarding the game status. It should be halftime soon and I would appreciate it if anyone could give me a score and a brief run down on how the Zips have looked.Thank you in advance.
  21. If we had only beaten Toledo...we needed that game and was one we should have won if we played to our potential. Had we done so, we'd control our own destiny. I knew that game would really hurt us in the end!
  22. I meant to include this...:http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index_files/page0475.htm
  23. This team is peaking at exactly the right time. If we win the MACC game, look for us to potentially get a first-round home game in the NCAA tournament. If we lose the MACC game, we should still get an at-large bid. Either way, this team has the experience and talent to go deep into the NCAA tournament.
