I should add that history is a relative compass of progress. Those banners represent magnetic north. Without them, we don't know where we've been, where we are, and thus, where we are going. We need those banners back!
-
I really disagree that these accomplishments (DII runner-up, etc.) aren't worthy of a banner. In building a program, it's important to know how far we've come. The banner puts into perspective the rich history of the program (and more globally, the university) and also shows us how far we yet have to go to become a major force at the national level. There is a Nation member who is currently a PhD student in history at UA (and alum of UT). I encourage him to please use this forum to explain to the Nation the importance and significance of studying history.

Does anyone plan on making the trip to Pittsburgh for the Duquesne vs. Akron men's basketball game on Monday, February 26th? I'm a UA alum who also happens to be a graduate student at Pitt and I plan on attending the game. I'd love to meet up with other members of The Nation to cheer UA on to a victory.

This is a dangerous game in that the UB starters compete well with the nations best as evident in their game against Pitt in which UB had the lead going into the final 5 minutes. However, as mentioned by RowdyZip, the bench isn't as deep as it needs to be to beat UA (as was also evident against Pitt).I still think we'll win, but it will be closer than the Can't game because .We should (and need to) win all games leading up to the next one against OU. One game at a time though...In retrospect, it's amazing how badly those losses to UA-LR and UIC look on our tournament resume right now.

The difference between Akron and K.E.N.T.

Well done and as always, -
I hope he has a good career and that the men's soccer program continues to do well nationally and to recruit such talent.I never pass up a chance to say that
-
so tell your friend to make first contact and see if JD is interested. if he's as good as you say and is interested in Akron, there is no reason JD wouldn't be.

Damn!...We lead most of the game!We just can't seem to win a big game!...How frustrating! There is no doubt in my mind we have to win the MACC to go to The Dance.

Would someone please post the current score and time remaining. Thank you in advance.
-
Please keep me updated...now without the gametracker working, I have no means of receiving real time scores...I live in Pittsburgh. Thank you Nation!
-
Look under "Next Event" and then "Coverage"...click on the "GameTracker" icon and it should load automatically.Hope this helps!I don't know if it's working though...it's now 7:10 and there's nothing on the tracker although I thought the game was supposed to start at 7:00.

To those of you interested in following the game in real-time online, the gametracker can be found at:http://ohiobobcats.cstv.com/sports/m-baskb...skbl-sched.htmlThe link is on the right side of the page.Go Zips! And of course,

I'm a PhD student at the University of Pittsburgh who did his undergrad and master's work at UA. I too am surprised by how much recognition UA gets in the Pittsburgh area. In all honesty, I think UA is held in higher esteem in the Pittsburgh area than in Akron. I am also delighted to say that even the people of Pittsburgh know that

Details, Details...So you want Stadium Details?

I think we need a stadium like those of CSU-Fresno (although larger than ours is planned), UNLV, or UNM -
Details, Details...So you want Stadium Details?
UAZipster0305 replied to Zipsrifle's topic in Akron Zips Football
After reviewing the conceptual design presented, I must say this looks more like a large high school stadium (a la McKinnely/Massilon). We need a horseshoe or bowl stadium! This further proves that we need to coordinate with the Wolstein group to build a joint UA/MLS stadium on our campus to maximize revenue, stadium features and capabilities (retractable roof, closed bowl, 25,000 seats and possibly expandable), and events(NCAA soccer and basketball tournament games, UA football, a bowl game if we have a retractable roof, concerts, band competitions, high school football and soccer playoff games, etc.). We must let the administration know that this conceptual design is unaccpetable and that we need to coordinate with the Wolstein group to prevent both groups from competing with one another and building otherwise inferior stadiums! If the stadium is built as proposed in this conceptual rendering, I'll be embarrased by it!At least we all still know that -

Great find!Kick ass, we may be getting a huge upgrade to the soccer facilities as well. For a nationally ranked program, our field doesn't even come close to the fan experience of some of the other great programs (UNC, UConn, Creighton, yes, Creighton, PSU, IU, UVA, etc). I hope the improvements include new lights BEHIND the fan seating areas, a more stadium like feel, and a new press box that matches the architecture of the rest of the new buildings on campus. -
We had 14 turnovers with ~ 3 minutes left...that will hurt us against a good team.Good win anyhow!
-
The gametracker we have has great graphics, but the stats on it suck. There is actually play-by-play on ours though. Personally, I prefer the real-time stats to the play-by-play.Can't has the same format as BU and we all know that

We're not exactly playing mistake free ball either...8 turnovers so far. That should be our total for the whole game against a team like this! ...Random, but always true!

National Champions

I forgot to include this:http://www.collegesoccernews.com/ -
Just to let everyone know, the only bad loss our men's soccer team had this year (5-0 season opener at the Virginia Soccer Classic) was against the school that won the National Championship this year, University of California, Santa Barbara. One of the other tournament teams that did surprisingly well this year was UNC-Greensboro who we beat badly 4-0 at the end of the season. I believe they made it to the Sweet 16.This further proves that we got screwed in not getting a bid to the tournament! At least we all know that !

Wolstein's Summit County Soccer Stadium
UAZipster0305 replied to Z-Pouch's topic in Akron Zips Football
I should also mention that a joint venture on campus would be a great venue for NCAA basketball regionals (men's and women's), the NCAA soccer final fours (men's and women's), and the MLS Cup. Imagine how much revenue would be generated for the city and area businesses to host events like these!Again, this all makes too much sense and would be way too good to be true. -
Wolstein's Summit County Soccer Stadium
UAZipster0305 replied to Z-Pouch's topic in Akron Zips Football
I totally agree that this stadium on Route 8 for soccer is a stupid idea and I'm a huge fan of the MLS. Whoever said that this sounds like the Coleseum all over again, kudos, you've hit the nail on the head!I personally mentioned to Dr. Proenza in his office over two years ago that the University should work with the Wolstein group to put such a facility and an MLS team on campus to maximize resources. Imagine what this would do for our soccer programs, the money that can be put into the new stadium, and the events it can host (because of the potential roof). Hell, with a retractable roof we could have a bowl game in Akron...The Rubber Bowl, anyone? This facility could be designed to be flexible enough to be capable of hosting an MLS soccer team in the Spring and Summer, UA football in the Fall, and UA basketball in the Winter. The schedules work out so well and this makes so much sense! Also, imagine how much parking revenue (from extra MLS events) could be raised to pay off existing or fund future parking decks on campus.I understand that the Wolstein group and the MLS want an expansion team as far from Columbus as possible, but 10 miles isn't going to make a difference in attendance or fan base. I also understand that this issue comes down to ownership rights and control. The Wolstein group doesn't want to share and I'm sure the university feels the same way. However, without cooperation, neither party will achieve its full potential if both stadiums are even ever built! As a name for the new MLS team, what does everyone think about CAC United (where CAC would stand for Cleveland-Akron-Canton)? Akron is the geographic center of the fan base and thus, gets the stadium.
