  1. Zips men's basketball has received 8 votes in the AP Top 25 Poll and 1 vote in the ESPN/USA Today Poll. I'd love to see us with a national ranking before the season is over as its great for recruiting and advertising of the university. However, a 20+ win season and a post-season appearance would be more satisfying!
  2. The name of the man is Paul Garofolo, president and general manager of the Cleveland Force.
  3. The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that there are talks of building a new MLS soccer stadium on route 8 in the Macedonia area:http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/...4050.xml&coll=2UA administration should be all over this trying to make it a collaborative effort to build a joint stadium on campus. It would be such a waste to build two new stadiums less than 30 minutes apart when both parties are struggling to find resources. The UA campus is the ideal location because it is at the crossroads of route 8 and two other major interstates (I76/77) and would also be able to draw from the Canton area.I would imagine that having an MLS team on campus would also work wonders for soccer recruiting and winning a national championship!...i've already got a team named picked out for the MLS team if it were to be on campus...CAC United...Cleveland/Akron/Canton United...United We Stand in every sense of the phrase. If you have connections, please contact UA officials about this venture!I definitely want to read fresh posts about this issue as well!
  4. Let's do anything we can to keep KD...we've already lost one good coach this year in Lolla.
  5. Hockey is a bad idea...too much financial investment required and little community interest...Cleveland barely supports a minor league team!Men's Tennis or Woman's Golf...perhaps Men's Swimming and Diving...although one would have to find a way to ensure that men's and woman's scholarships were equal. We already have programs for the opposing gender and to add them, additional facilities wouldn't be needed. However, replacing the slum area south of campus with a golf course would be a dream come true. What student wouldn't want a dorm, residence hall, or apartment on a golf course! Let's expand the campus map to include the area enclosed by Route 8, I76/77, and Wolf's Ledges. The cross country teams would also benefit by an on campus golf course because running trails could be integrated (that's what the University of Michigan does).I think faculty and students would also appreciate an indoor tennis facility behind the rec center.
  6. Another user posted this link in response to a topic. I feel its worthy of more attention than that and is as follows:http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/mac/home.htm
  7. That's a great question; however, I don't know where to get an answer. Soccer recruits weren't made public even during Lolla's tenure.
  8. 6-3 in the last 9 games...a loss each away at Can't and Buffalo and a loss in the Bracket Buster...if we don't win more than 6 of these games including the Bracket Buster and don't win the MAC Championship, there will be no NCAA Tournament. However, I like our chances at the MAC Championship and the NIT isn't a bad consolation as we could win that whole thing.
  9. I agree about the 2005 team under achieving in the W-L columns. Army and Ball State were two games that should have been won. However, we got screwed on the goal line call against Ball State. I must say though that the fortunate season ending championship birth and win more than made up for the other two games.
  10. To an unbiased person familiar with the soccer community, Shaun Docking remains the best coach we could hope to get at Akron. He is by far the most qualified candidate. I'm not enthusiastic about any of the others; however, Agoos does bring professional experience and a big name to the men's soccer program although after last season the program should be able to sell itself.Even if he doesn't return, its nice to see an alum having such success.
  11. What ever happened with Coastal Carolina's head coach and UA alum, Sean Docking, as a potential candidate? That school, which isn't a powerhouse and is relatively small, has been to several consecutive NCAA tournament births under his direction. He is also very well networked in the national soccer community. Imagine what he could do with a national power like UA!Here is his bio: (http://www.goccusports.com/menssoccer/?coach=81)I emailed him encouraging to apply. Other concerned Zips soccer fans should do the same: sdocking@coastal.eduWho are these other guys?...Isn't UA at a level in which it can command a proven coach with past success as a HEAD coach?...Sean Docking is the man...I hope he politely declined an offer because if the administration past him up, I'd be furious!I hope the coaching change hasn't hurt our recruiting!
