Roles of new and previously limited PT players in 2012-13
Z.I.P. replied to GJGood's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
From everything I've heard, MacAdams could be the best freshman in the MAC next year. I see him challenging Tree and Harney for PT right away. Now...if Justice and Egner were to decide their futures were brighter elsewhere, could we bring in better alternatives for 12-13? -
Duquesne could offer Jeff Boals or Orlando Antigua (Calipari assistant, former player and ass't at Pitt), but they would probably turn them down too. It's not a very prestigious job. And there aren't many Keith Dambrots around. None with Duquesne alumni or city ties. Sorry, Dukes.

Changer, I don't mean to sound snide or sarcastic, but if you had been following Akron hoops as long as many of us in the Nation, you would know better than to expect the U of Akron -- particularly that body that should be expected (i.e., the ALUMNI Association) to step into this breach and provide any assistance to fans of Zips basketball. On the rare occasions when anything WAS put together, the costs ended up being higher than if individual fans had made the arrangements themselves. My advice to you and all others interested in following the team en la isla this coming season is to start shopping around now for flight and hotel accommodations. Actually, I would suggest using Zn.o as a sounding board for this -- as has been done with NCAA basketball and soccer tournament travels in the past. If you find a bargain, let the rest of us know!

Zips in the MLS, NASL, USLPro 2012 Season Thread
Z.I.P. replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Has anyone seen whether Ampai is out injured @San Jose? His name's not listed on their roster. -
"Akron is either desperate for some attention or wants a coach-in-waiting if Terry Bowden doesn't work out. Point is, Tressel should be nowhere near a college campus. He should be suspended. The length of years is up to you, NCAA, I don't care." Wow! How come Mr Dodd gets the point, and so few on this board are able? Could it be his lack of bias? (e.g., "non-athletic hiring decision".) lol

Zips in the MLS, NASL, USLPro 2012 Season Thread
Z.I.P. replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Is this a regular season game already? I shamefully haven't been paying attention! -
Reading the story of Bolton Wanderers midfielder (I believe that's his position) collapsing on the pitch today, and being in hospital critically ill made me quickly say -- he must have played on Arsenal youth with Zakuani. Also, both were born in Congo, and fled the country because of the political turmoil and war. Can someone check Steve's Twitter feed? Thanks. Praying for Muamba to survive and return.

Ahhhhhh! That's a shame (and three Big Tens still dancing). Worse for me is being able to see only one game at a time (watching on Armed Forces Net this year from On the Road). I still haven't seen one play from OU's huge win over the Wolverines! I expect Shaka and Districtballer's club to go much farther next year's tournament. I would love for Akron to get them somewhere in the 2013 dance. That's probably the only way we seem them again.

Robbie Derschang to Akron?
Z.I.P. replied to TheTank123's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Robbie is an Akron-type player. He's very gifted physically and skill-wise, can play either on the wing or in center mid. He's a former Bradenton residency member. And Yves Galercep had him on his 2012 MLS draft board because of all these indications of long-term potential. Another guy who can judge long range potential is named Caleb Porter. Good find. Welcome aboard. He should get along with his fellow Coloradan, Serna. -
Next Years, Hopes, Dreams, Doubts, and Fears.
Z.I.P. replied to Derrt's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Re: New Years, Hopes, Doubts and Fears Thank you. Here where I live, we celebrate Thai New Years on April 13. Sabai de ru? -
To prepare for 2012-13, here is what Zeke needs. This has been the top camp for NBA post prospects for a couple of generations, and while the legendary Pete Newell has gone to sit with Coach Wooden in the Land Beyond, it remains the best camp of its kind.

There was a time when that tournament included Puerto Rican teams, like U of PR or similar, which didn't count because they weren't NCAA members. But all these games count toward RPI now. This is a GREAT field. Would love to get XU, USM and either Tennessee or NC St. And I agree with R4R that it could be AKRON ranked in the top 25 when or after we meet Creighton. BUT that could depend largely on how well they perform in the NIT. Go Zips! Wave goodbye to Coach Carmody. Then take a bite of the Big Apple.

Here's one of the down-cressed Mildcat faithful bloggers. Wow! these guys have a worse sense of self worth than even Akron fans! And while I'm at it, I really want to thank DiG for retiring and devoting all his time to the Zn.o! You make first team, Dave.

Pretty sure it's at Akron! Did you listen to the announcer? He said in all but one case the lower seed was the host -- that means #4 NWU @ #5 Akron! The winner probably travels to Seattle to play UW!
-
Is that who we play?? When/where is the announcement?
-
Well, this site shows Akron as a 7 seed. And, frankly, who can argue with that?
-
And the technicality was Akron scored one point too few? Good one! I think anyone who is a basketball fan would be interested in seeing their team play in the National Invitation Tournament. Let's pull for the Zips to have a full meal, MSG included.

And I thought the satellite problems were only bad out here in the middle of the Pacific Ocean!
-
Akron was 9 out of 12 from beyond the arc. They were, I think 9 of 32 from inside. What does that tell you?
-
Halftime, Zeke 0 fouls. Akron leads 29-28. I think Akron has more left in the tank, and I expect them to play better in the 2nd half. Frankly, this was an ugly 20 minutes of basketball.
-
Here's a prediction from the middle of the Pacific. This will NOT be a defensive contest. One of the teams will make it to 75, the other will not. We have to take good shots, and force OU deep on the shot clock.. And with all due respect, KD, please put a leash on Nitro! Go Zips!

While we're away from the subject of the Zips, How About Los Leones of Athletic Bilbao! Pulled off one of the biggest upsets in recent years by knocking off the Red Devils at Old Trafford in Europa League play. Arsene Wenger, et altri. stay away from Llorente and Muniain.

Gracias Sr Crew8. That was a great article.

It's Sasaki. Now I was just reminiscing about what was at the corner of Exchange and Spicer back when I was a student. There was a bike shop there -- does anyone remember the name? That corner was the furthest that I would drive in my daily search for a parking spot. There was occasionally a space open on the expressway side opposite the bike shop, but I was always afraid to park there, and one day my fear was confirmed: I drove by, and someone in a large truck had turned the right-hand corner onto Spicer, and had driven right up and over the trunk of the car parked there, flattening it!
