I thought Luis Gil (pronounced "Hill" or "Heal") was on the roster for the senior USN team for France. Was Teal in Paris? Going to Slovinija?

WMU upsets Zips in pks
Z.I.P. replied to zips4ever2008's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
We played and beat Indiana at home last year 2-1 in the third round of the College Cup. Goes to show what a newbie knows Biz, because of the circumstances of our coach's background, and the caliber of the teams, I consider Indiana Akron's' biggest rival. There's a team from down in Suth'n Ohi'a that some folks place in that slot, but they would have to have a shot at beating us before I would even consider them. We once had a football rival like that... Sorry for bringing that up. -
Trust me my fellow Old Timer, Akron's American football team is no "national embarassment" -- outside of the Zips Nation no one knows or cares that they have a team. And that includes the part of the nation I live in. I suspect my part of the nation is growing in size too. Having a pathetic team for X years is like having an NBA team on strike for that time -- when the strike's over, will people remember they still have a team?

I like that strategy, especially with MSU having only 2 days of rest The Bulldogs are currently 7.5 point favorites.Zeke marshall will have a chance to prove if he belongs in The Big Time. He is unlikely to face a better opponent than MSU's post player. Only the NCAA has been able to keep him down so far.

Crew8, was this the show that played on Sunday evening, same time as LA Galaxy-RSL playoff game? I started watching for couple minutes. But that was only because of the Babe host. Sorry if I sound obsessed, but for Pete sake, she's smokin'. I'll try and watch it on Thurs morning. Heck, I gotta work!
-
Well, we can HOPE... I think a good measure is, IF they can stay within 30 -- they may be the best team in the MAC. But UND may be the best team in the NATION.

I have to take issue with this statement! I am hoping and wishing that football ("soccer" for Skipzip) NEVER grows to be the type of Big Time Professional Sport that the "relevant" sports are -- and that it is never ruined the way those other sports have been ruined by "relevance", i.e., Big Money, celebrity and the swagger that those exhibition pro leagues consist of. A try out in Sporting KC is as close as TO should come to our league. We don't need that. As far as Bisbee's comment about the bigger issue being competing against international competition -- by clubs and the USA MNT, I couldn't agree more, but we can compete against the world -- some day, without developing Cristiano Ronaldos and that little man who coaches him.Nuff said?

can you imagine if a college professor went to a black college students meeting and yelled "death to all (N word)"?! Or if i went to a muslim students meeting/muslim speaker and yelled "death to islam"?Yeah...what a disgusting double-standard.This loon has been doing crap like this for years though.I don't usually like to get into this kind of debates on this board but you leave me no options.Israel is a political state, not a race, not a religion. So your comparison to someone yelling death to N word/Islam has no ground.Yelling death to Israel compares to yelling death to Saudi Arabia or Iran or Palestine, which, by the way, happens everyday and nobody cares.Mahalo, Ada!

NCAA trying to kill college soccer
Z.I.P. replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
This will have a DRASTIC effect on the non-MLS-based youth clubs -- making them incapable of competing with the creme de la creme. And especially those clubs that do not compete in the Development Academy League. We may never see another Brian Ching come up from the Aloha State, unless he pulls a Bobby Wood and moves to SoCal as a teenager. There are vast areas of the US where kids have no access to the elite level of competition that is becoming a "must" for youth development. Calling Sunil Gulati. -
There is no set amount -- it's negotiated. Zakuani got like $175K, which was a record. My question is -- do they get a market "salary" on top of the GA $$?
-
I can only hope Caleb is not using the "Robin Fraser method", and neither developing young talent, not giving experienced players the opportunity to star, as our young ex-Zips players @ Home Depot Center are experiencing. On the draft side -- the MLS draft guru (forget his name) has come out with his first draft list of the top 25 players available, and only Darren Mottocks is included. I still believe Barson should be a high DP.
-
Do you mean the redshirt freshman from HS class of 2011? I haven't seen anything about commitments from class of 2012 players yet.
-
Thanks for getting the thread back on track. NOT being there, I'd like to know what happened on the field rather than in the stands. What was the tactical departure, Bisbee? What do you think is causing the changes?
-
So, we're talking Philly, not Phoenix? I was wondering if the Sun Devils were joining the Big East to make way for WVU in the Pac Ten.

I think Porters ultimate goal is to be coach of USMNT (wrote about this a year ago). I think he can accomplish his goal without leaving the Zips. I still believe that he will stay until 2014 when Kinsmann's contract will be up and the US may be looking for a new coach. I hope it plays out just as coach Porter envisions. Even if we have a new coach...the publicity that comes with the World Cup will be more than anyone could imagine. What HE said!
-
He's being groomed man. Don't treat him the way you all did Ken Lolla, OK? Not that we'll improve when he becomes US National Coach (though I think the USA will), but we'll be a perennial top-10 for a long time. And we'll be the breeding ground.

Been following Evan and the Impact all year and this is great news!! I hope Sinisa and Cameron catch on as well. Thanx for the scoop!I believe Cameron was already cut. I think Sinisa will make the cut, he had a good season with Montreal.Fantastic news! And it couldn't happen for a better guy, in and out of the box.

Cap'n, Clarification plz: Are you going to remove this whole thread? If so...+++ (especially the refs to Mr SV!)

You and GoZips are SO right -- college fans Soooo love intimacy. Pro basketball fans HATE intimacy!

Improved web site organization

From the article: The University of Akron rifle team battled Ohio State and Columbus State over the weekend. Since when is that two different schools? -
Ben Speas, the new LeBron James?
Z.I.P. replied to GauchoMike's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Yeah, welcome back to the ZN.o Big Mike -- and thanks alot for not mentioning anything that happened on your coast last week The thing with Speas is, we wish him well and all that, but he knew he wouldn't be seeing much playing time in his hometown. Now I kinda can't wait to hear about the first blizzard to hit the Raleigh-Chapel Hill area. Have one, or four for me an' the Rowdies at Gio's tonight! -
Jeff Goodman picks Akron to upset Kansas in the Big Dance
Z.I.P. replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Picking Kansas to get upset in the Big Dance by a mid-major is like shooting fish in a barrel. And it makes us about a 15 or sixteen seed. I'd rather beat College of Charleston in an 8/9 matchup, please. -
Thanks Crew8. And here is the link to ZipItUpNow's post. Includes the NCAA Rule Book explanation.
-
And here is, Da Rule: 3.5 Re-entry Conditions, Restrictions, Exceptions 3.5.1 Field Players. With reference to periods of play, substitutions are permitted as follows: First half: no re-entry. Second half: one re-entry. First overtime period: no re-entry. Second overtime period: no re-entry. Thanks, Coach.

Please explain how a team that won twenty-one games last season and returns all five starters, and has a veteran, respected coach is 'overrated'. I seriously doubt that any MAC coach will take Western Michigan lightly. I spoke a little too quickly. Losing Juwan Howard JR might hurt a little, but they do have some quality players in Ward and Whitfield coming back. It seems to me that WMU under Steve Hawkins tends to excede expectations when they are low, and disappoint when the are raised. What's the highest finish for a Hawkins-coached team?
