Since Congress has passed a law allowing people to carry concealed weapons in national parks, I hope Mr Paul will support our constitutional right to arm bears. That's all in keeping with the First Amendment after all.

I feel like I'm getting smarter -- at least about Ukranian national (fill in the blank) team, by the minute. But I still don't know what "HD" is. <Shrug>

It's in the off topic section. We could always use more off-topic discussions.LMFAO! Somehow, I have managed to miss out on some REALLY meaningful discussion on this board. Just today I have come across the great debate on whether football (i.e., "soccer" as Americans call it) is a major sport. There aren't enough in this single universe to express my thoughts on that topic! And now we come to (drum roll, please!) the Great Battle Between Teabaggers and (right-wing) Libertarians. As a founding member of the Hawai'i Green Party, allow me to display my deep hope that Libertarian Anti-Life murderers, and Tea Party Anti-Choice hystericals will come to the mutual conclusion that it is the national Republican Party which seeks to coopt your wise and courageous patriotism, and immediately begin setting up your own party apparatus for the fall, and all succeding election seasons. That will ensure your crazy ideas don't become even more united to the already extreme agenda of the "mainstream" right-wing party in the USA. In any case, best of luck to you -- but I'm willing to bet your parties together won't gain half the votes earned by Ralph Nader in even 2008. Other than that, my sentiments range toward the following send off to your fortunes: Now, as my football (i.e., "soccer" to the haters) crazed friend, 72 Roo would say to my comrade from Wadsworth, of the same name GO ZIPS!BTW '72 -- let's go throw some stones and down some pints!

What do Zips Fans Really think?
Z.I.P. replied to MDZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Gee whiz, somehow I managed to COMPLETELY miss this thread! Thank you God!But, to gr8day2bazip: Thanks and let me give your post the biggest+++++++ available -
For me, it brought back a lot of great memories. You can choose to focus on the negative or you can choose the positive. I'll take the positive every time. Yeah, our Men's Soccer Zips fell short of their goal, but what an unprecendented season! True dat! We have it this year though. In the finals, my dad won 2 tickets for the finals out in Santa Barbara for this year, and I'm taking that as a good sign! GO ZIPS!Just wondering -- as I intend to purchase tix as soon as they go on sale -- does Dad have actual tickets, or a voucher? If tix, can you PM me the seat location? Not that I want to sit with you guys, but I wonder how seats are allocated.

I agree....football should not be a part of TitleIX. Now that womens sports have taken a foothold they should just make all sports other than football even scholarships. Really what it comes down to is if there is a female equivalent of the sport. Football does not have one. Nearly every other sport does (i cannot think of any that do not)Why should football -- a sport played only by hot-headed males have an exception? That in itself is incredibly sexist! But more important -- how did the purpose of this thread -- to congratulate and support the UA Women's Tennis team, get diverted into an attack on gender equality?

I have only one question. What in the world is "HD"?

Congrats for the success of the team the past couple of seasons, which seems to be on an upward track. I remember when Mike Thomas arrived as AD at Akron, he set the goal of having all of Akron's teams, men's and women's be perennial contenders for MAC championships and NCAA tournament play. At that time, it seemed more like a pipedream. I was critical a while back of the tennis team's performance. There wasn't a MAC team they could be sure of beating back then. It appears that while we were away and not paying attention, MAC tennis has been turned on its head. We are now paying attention!I know that there is a national ranking system for teams (USTF?) , and when I read in the local papers about Hawaii's tennis teams (yes -- we have two here -- for now at least) it always says they (I think the men) are ranked like..."#68" and the opponent is ranked "#45" or whatever -- way beyond the top 25. Where is Akron in this ranking system -- do they have it for women's college tennis?

But in the back of his mind, Keith wanted to reply, "Well, I'm trying to find a good Jewish center, to complement Zeke".

Is the writer suggesting we didn't deserve to be there, or we "stole" Buffalo's chance?Good article? I think I have to take issue with that. This Cleveland blogger's sole point (and it's a rather obtuse one at that) is that since the Horizon League has one top-25 team, that the league is therefore far superior to the MAC. I suspect he's standing in for Elton on this harangue. Yes -- the Horizon, at this point in history, is slightly ahead of the MAC -- due to the fact that they DON'T have football, and can spend more on hoops. However, Butler is not yet any G of the E. They haven't had the staying power yet. IF they're top-25 next year and the year after, then we can start entertaining the idea. Until then the Bulldogs and the Horizon are only a small step ahead. Go Zips. Go MAC!

So the Crew didn't have the futbols to take us on again this year? Caleb, call up Real Salt Lake or Steve-o and Sigi at Sounder Central and see if they're up for a match.
-
True. He did well for having such a short time frame to work with. What I wonder is, If you take away one guy -- who is very unlikely to play next season, and may never show at all -- do we fall from 3rd to 10th?
-
I don't recall that name on the fall recruit list. Probably means to say she WILL sign with Akron -- in April when next signing period rolls around.
-
That was the first thing I noticed at 7 am on ESPNU -- and the pink shirts -- sorry to UB that our ladies messed up their DH (73-67 Akron, as I recall). Wonder how many of those fans came early to witness the legend from St. V's.

I understand the soccer team is playing in Las Vegas next season. Can we arrange with the Mustang Ranch to provide services? Must be a similar type place, eh?
-
Yep. It is officially a slow news day!
-
If Akron wants to sell out the Info on weekday nights, like the Cavaliers do the Q (or whatever corporate name is on the place these days), all they have to do is put LeBron in the Blue and Gold. I don't recall the Cavs selling out before Bron put on the Wine and Gold. Come to think of it, Ianello should have a pretty high lottery pick this year!And...how can playing weekday games be "all about the money"? The MAC/Akron don't get a red dime from ESPN.
-
Well...I think we know how THAT one turned out. Congratulations to KD and his players. I DO get the impression that Keith may be using suspensions in part as a motivational device. At least it worked that way on Anthony Hitchens. Let's see how Brett Mac shows on his return to action.
-
I'm not sure I get my Wadsworthian friend's point on this one. Brett McKnight is what -- 21 years old? What's his old man going to do -- take him out back of the woodshed?
-
Pretty good guestimate on my part. Pretty awful turnout for an important game.Hasn't changed much since KD left town! Our women outdraw their men. Sheesh.
-
Akron won this game when the Chipps were down! Central scores 13 points over the final 14:10 of play. Did someone say, "A win is a win is a win."?

"Tom, have you met my wife, Dove?" She's looking for a job, too! http://www.pac-10.org/sports/w-baskbl/spec.../041403aaa.html-edit- Notice the website? When did Wisconsin join the Pac-10?

Whoa, whoa, whoa. You're getting ahead of me here. What's in Las Vegas -- are the ladies playing there? And re: above -- are Green and Brascia 2011 verbals for coach Pfau? Thanks for filling in the blanks for those of us without Top Drawer Soccer subs.Info on the two Vegas girls, Meghan and Lexa. Their Neusport '93 Green squad won the Surf Cup last Summer -- top West Coast tournament. This increases the chances that I will be attending the Far West Regional in el Buquerque in June. http://www.gotsport.com/rankings/team.aspx?TeamID=100947
