27 minutes left in the half. Holthusen scores the first goal of the game. 1-0 Zips!

Coach Weigand has been very much on top of the Big Cat recruiting program this summer. Not sure, but I imagine Big Cat is the #1 priority for 2018. It appears that Dylan's HS coach likes our coaching staff, and is close to them. Dylan's said he is very open to a mid-major, and does not automatically give the priority to the "bigger" program. That said, the recruiting sites seem to place us as #2 to WVa in pursuit of the Cat.

“Other schools to show interest are Clemson, Northern Kentucky, Pitt, Ohio State, Ohio University, Belmont, and Dayton and Xavier are both really after me lately,” said Swingle, who mentioned one school he’s particularly high on right now.
“Akron has been down to a bunch of my open gyms and have been after me pretty hard, and I’m liking them a lot.”
This kid is the Real Deal! Same town that Jake the Snake Kretzer hails from, Bainbridge, OH (different HS -- can you believe Bainbridge has more than one HS?)

Here's the game report from Top Drawer. Just wondering -- how good a season is Brennan having? Did we make a mistake by not offering him, or would he have turned it down?

SO, I understand we have found "The Next Big Dog", but he's know as "Big Cat"!

I am assuming this is now going to be the official unofficial "Akron Goes Bowling 2016" thread?
ESPN's dynamic duo of Mark Schlabach and Brett McMurphy are agreed that the team will be heading to Miami to play -- of all declining, former CFP contending teams -- the Houston Cougars! http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/17864836/college-football-bowl-projections-2016-season-week-9
I have to wonder, for this to occur, whether the Zips have to win-out from here. Are they predicting that?

I thought "color rush" was just an NFL term to market more gear, apparently not.
As Indians manager Alvin Dark once said about 300 lb first baseman Boog Powell in the Orioles' all-red unis, "He looks like a giant blood clot."

This year's WCC will be played at Avaya Sadium in San Jose'!!! I may go. Thank you NCAA for having the courage to care about democratic values.

I walked out early in the second quarter of this debacle on Saturday. The saving grace may be that this could very well be the best MAC football team ever we got trashed by. Then I turn on the radio and ESPN announcers are talking not about the horrid defeat Akron suffered across both sides of the ball -- but what must be the Bush League Play of the Week! Don't we have a coach with any common sense?! How could something this stupid be allowed?

ABJ game day story
This worries me:
The Broncos rank first or second in the MAC in numerous offensive and defensive categories, including scoring offense (first), rushing offense (second courtesy of the work of running backs Jamauri Bogan, who averages 5.9 yards per carry, but did not play last week and Jarvion Franklin, who has 514 yards on 102 carries).
Thought I read on Mon or Tue that Bogan wouldn't play this week. Is that changed or not?

I have noticed several articles saying something to the effect that WMU plays Akron as a ranked team for the first time. I am wondering if GT misunderstood those other articles or if he really just got it that wrong? Either way, lazy journalism.
There was a release that said Akron has never defeated a ranked team at home at Infocision Stadium. Perhaps the author in question forgot about that other place? Da, uh, Rubbah Bow.

I noticed that yesterday there was "No Line" on the UA - WMU game. Today's local paper shows WMU - 11. To me that seems fewer points than expected if Chapman were starting for Akron. Does Vegas know something we don't?

Lol. Yeah, The Suburbanite covers some of the south-side suburbs.
If Dave from Green were still around, he might tell you it was originally titled the "Green Views". Back in the day -- MY day!

The thing that upsets many of us outside the team is the lack of information regarding injured players' status! Has there been a university-wide change in how injury status is announced publicly? Seems like there was more info in the past...
Per this site, Marcus is out for the season. http://www.statfox.com/cfb/injuries.asp

Watching, I LUV the new ol' throwback helmets. 76 Tributes. AND, the band has ZipsNation T-shirts -- how do we get some of those?

If a Woodson is a go, I'd line up both QBs in different formations and positions throughout the first series to totally throw off the D. I'd let Chapman throw one to Woody, let Chapman run it once, and let him throw a short pass, then let Woody take a snap and go for a home run.
I'd just let Chappy run it the first play, eh?

UCLA is now 4-3-1 after they lost 4-0 to Washington (UCLA is #41 in RPI)
I watched the UCLA Bruins get absolutely drubbed by a good, but not great Washington team this week (Pac-12 Net). It is nearly impossible for me to believe the range between that teams good and bad performances. But, after following the adventures in Westwood for many season, I am pretty much convinced that Jorge Salcedo lacks what it takes to win a national championship on the field. He gets the best or near-best recruiting class year-in and year-out, yet they continue to be completely inconsistent and frustrating in the PAC-12 and in the post-season under Salcedo. I'm really wondering -- given that Jorge won a national championship playing for UCLA (scoring the winning PK, yet), whether the deciders and fans will put up with this inconsistency and lack of a title much longer. Maybe they will do to him what the Sounders did with their coach who could not produce a champion (former UCLA coach, who won much more consistently), Sigi Schmid.

Damn! I'm glad they didn't take Chapman out of there! Ha ha ha.

For the most part, it seems as though the App State fan base, media, and coaches are giving us the respect, I think we deserve. I am really looking forward to a great football game! If we are able to pull off a win against App State after the pounding we gave Marshall, people are going to start standing up and taking notice in the football world. It's hard not to be excited about where we are headed, as a progrum.
We have a dadgum good progrum! Only question I can summon is: Where's the respect from the national media?? This should be one of the most interesting games coming up on Saturday. So...What television network is covering the big game?? #ICantFindESPN3OnMyCableSystem Seriously!

Here's the list of class of 2017 players who have committed to play for the Zips so far:
Out of state:
Jeremiah Ramirez, G, Hillsboro HS, Hillsboro, OR
Kennedy Pickens, RB, Hillsboro HS, Hillsboro, OR
I can't find much of anything confirming the two Oregon commitments beyond their initial tweets, but Oregon isn't much of a HS football hotbed, with very few recruits and very little media coverage.
Akron has two commits from Hillsboro High School?!? I wonder if this is an extension of the "Caleb Porter Effect"? Hillsboro, in the West Hills suburbs of Portland is a bedroom community, sitting next to Beaverton, home of Nike. The HS has about 1000 students IIRC. As you say, they are not a "hotbed" of football, but a few DI players come out of the PDX suburbs each year.
Found some info on Pickens and Ramirez. Pickens may the "Second coming of Fransohn Bickley", as he is reportedly only 140 pounds on a 5-7 or 5-8 core, depending on which site you believe. He lines up at either RB or WR alternatively. The team has a losing record. Here's some video: https://new.berecruited.com/athletes/2778870 Note that in some refs to Pickens he is #3, but appears to be wearing #40 in all the videos I've seen. In one site he writes that he's spent most of his life in Mobile, Alabama.
Jeremiah Ramirez: In the videos I see, he's always playing on the Defense side, either in the middle or outside. No info on his height/weight. Recently moved from SF Bay area and lives in Beaverton. Works at Nike! Are we a Nike team? http://www.hudl.com/video/3/4445040/5721ba08c124573b5459473d
Really glad to see the UA extending it's recruiting boundaries. Those dadgum coaches are welcome to come scout the Aloha State. Plenty of athletes here, and not many want to stay home.

60 minutes in, BGSU and UB are scoreless. I hear that if current scores hold, Akron wins regular season title?
