We gritted it out and made the shots we had to at the end. It's a miracle the UCI's coach didn't get T'd up. He was in the refs ear the entire game. Big dog didn't have the greatest game but it was enough. #55 Green was a tank but he tossed up a bunch junk shots that somehow went in. Bring on UTEP.

    Not!  Maryland Eastern Shore!

Seems unlikely, that just shows an audio link. This statement on the UTEP basketball site is pretty straight forward.

Re:  The Sun Bowl Association's no-streaming policy, this is a proprietary situation similar to what has developed with University of Hawaii football.  The university has a pay-per-view contract with a cable system -- which people pay a couple hundred dollars for the season package, and the contract states they have sole-source broadcast rights which precludes any live streaming of games.  Opposing fans and schools are repeatedly angry and have ridiculed the UH for their inability to view any non-nationally broadcast games here.  I guess the Sun Bowl has a similar deal with UTEP.  What can you do, when a local org prevents the road fans from watching?

I'm wanting to know the spread on that UCLA-WMU game. It has to be at least 25.

I watched the Broncos play @UWashington last weekend.  They led most of the game before going cold the last 3-4 minutes and losing by single digits.  Washington has a freshman guard, Markelle Fultz who is virtually as good as Lonzo Ball of UCLA.  However, the Huskies have nothing else --and I mean NOTHING.  They couldn't beat their women's team without Fultz.  As far as WMU playing the Bruins at Pauley Pavilion, that is a close homecoming for Coach Hawkins.  He grew up in Ventura County, and while this may be hard to believe, he is a surfer.  Imagine a minion on a surf board!  I'll give WMU 30 points unless the Alfords are in the giving spirit.

While we are playing the Anteaters, there are a bunch of away games for MAC teams.  Western Michigan at UCLA?  Kant at Oregon State.  EMU got doubled up by 50 at Syracuse last night.

Last night my TV guide had K-ent State @Oregon St listed at 6:00 on PAC-12 Net.  So, as I was surfing channels searching for the game that is actually tonight(!), I passed through Fox College Sports Atlantic, and Voila! I hit "Zips Basketball With Keith Dambrot" and Joe Dunn.  Only caught the last few minutes, including a feature with the Zips answering the question "What would you be doing if you weren't a basketball player?"  Wasn't aware that Noah was a striker previously.  Call Coach Embick, someone!   The show repeats nationally twice more this week.  Good for recruiting, as I haven't seen any other MAC or regional coaches shows on Fox regional  TV -- not even for Thad Matta's club.

Edit:   BTW -- If KSU can't beat the Beavers they should quit, as OSU is a pathetic excuse for a PAC-12 team, losing last week at home to Savannah State.

  5. I once asked GT if he was coming to Hawai'i for the (2013) Diamond Head Classic.  His response was that in a past job he was required to travel to road games, and he made sure when he took the BJ job that that wasn't in the plans.  He does NOT like to travel away from family and home.  Fair enough.  But what does it say about his employer, if they have no traveling reporter for the #HomeTeam.  Well, that's always been their priority.

  6. I missed the Marshall game due to the busy holiday season.  I wondered why nobody brought up the memorable -- for the wrong reasons, which were part of the Hipsher Era -- game the two teams played on March 1, 2002 (had to look it up in the NCAA recordbook).  That Saturday night, in front of a (by today's standards) large crowd of guessing around 4500, Marshall beat the Zips on the single-handed performance of guard Ronald Blackshear.  Blackshear came within one of tieing the all-time record for three-point baskets in a game, by making 14 treys -- and set the NCAA mark with 11 consecutive made three-point field goals, as the Herd came from behind to beat the Zips something like 102-87 (?).  We did have a strong finish to the first-half and led by -- guessing here -- 56-52 at halftime.  That was the final regular season game, and the team went to WMU and won a MAC tournament play-in game, before being beaten at the Q by BGSU.

You're thinking that there has to be some way to connect people like your friends, with the hundreds of ticket that aren't used on at every game.  You tech savvy people ought to find a way to come up with a page where companies and people can offer their tickets, and those seeking them can contact them.  But, I doubt that the people who don't use their tickets would report it ahead of time.

Yes, we certainly have services called "ticket brokers".  But I wonder how many people like your friends are actually looking to BUY tickets?

Skip, the University of Hawaii has had a system for several years -- on their internal ticket website -- that allows people to sell game tickets they do not intend to use.  The system was adapted from what many other universities were doing.  It's probably been in use for 10 years now, though I've never used it myself.  There must be a way for the U of A to incorporate something like this, if they just try.  Are they willing and interested, is the question.

GoZags, I am a fan, short for fanatic.  Sometimes some stream of consciousness thoughts get posted on a fan forum.  Like I meant he was an actual vagina.  You have to grow some thicker skin, my friend.

I was really hoping someone else would step up and not force me to be the one who responds to this.  I don't know the age ofK92, but these crude remarks are generally representative of an adolescent mentality.   Those of us who have been on this board since it's infancy have worked to maintain some semblance of decency and decorum.  A basic rule might be that people don't use language they wouldn't use to their mother.  The 'c' word falls way outside what should be expected in discussion that represents the Zipsnation and the University of Akron.  I'll leave it there.  GoZips!

Tired of hearing this story. Yes they played well, yes they gave good effort but you know what? They lost. They didn't cover the spread vs Gonzaga OR Creighton. They were supposed to lose by 17 & 12 points. I'd take a lot more from these games if they'd cover at least.

Akron is going to be the best MAC team with no questions asked. They'll have a couple downers in conference play but I'll be shocked if they lose more than 3 MAC games. And there's no shame in that, the ZIPS are who they are.

Gee, hope you didn't lose too much money on this one!  I'm sure we'll cover nex'time.
