I think this article makes it pretty clear why he chose Toledo. He states that he wants to be "that guy" and his mother mentions that Toledo is losing two seniors at his position. It seems that he just wants playing time and to take on a leading role. Akron's teams aren't exactly known for being centered around one person, whereas Toledo has been at different points.

edit:  There IS an 'I' in "that guy"!  lol!  Not our kinda guy.  See Evan Payne...?  :)

I went to ESPN to check out other MAC scores at the start of half-time. It was accurate. Might want to consider using that.

Okay for scores, but no STATS!  I want to see stats. I see from the 8.9 mins on Gozips.com that Big Dog picked up 2 PF by that time.  Did he return?

  3. Could someone watching in REAL time please provide a score??  I don't have the ESPN3 feed, and there are two diff scores.  The GoZips gametracker shows Akron leading 17-11, while ESPN -- which has no tracker at all, just the score shows 30-28 Akron.  smh!

Not gonna happen. He doesn't have the pedigree. He is also too valuable to the Law school.

Well, I just noticed how Hilltopper's crystal ball has gotten rather cloudy.  Could he do us all a favor, and predict that the basketball team has no chance of beating out Kent for the MAC title?  PLEASE!!! :)

Whatever anyone's thoughts are about competing in the NIT, I'm sure you'd probably feel the same about this.

What would you say if the NCAA March madness were restricted to only P-5 schools?  That's the valid comparison.

Personally, I rarely watch the CFP games, and probably won't again this time around.  I would be no more or less likely to pay attention to a G-5 playoff.  I do watch particular bowl games like the Rose Bowl and Sun Bowl strictly out of the games' traditions.  Did you know the Sun Bowl has been played since 1935?  I really miss the Bluebonnet Bowl in Houston!  It was older still.

  6. I'm sure their embarrassing performance in Corvallis Saturday night against the previously pathetic Beavers caused a lot of introspection on this team, and provided heavy motivation.  Similar to how those Beavers had to show their fans they could win when they played the f.lashes.  Now it's Texas's turn.  I noticed that a commenter on the ESPN TEXAS - KSU game site from Richmond was not interested in having Shaka back at VCU.

  7. Kind of surprised no one is coming to the fairly obvious conclusion from this signing.  A former 3-star doesn't come to a MAC school unless he thinks he has a serious chance of playing right away.  With the way Woodson's season ended there has to be some question about his future, and this just adds weight to the Woodson skepticism.  There should be a 3-way battle for the starting QB position in the spring and summer, and I see that as a positive development -- we're lucky to have 3 talented guys, even if none of them is currently seen as a sure-fire star.

Of all the tournaments I have attended with Zips MBB this was by far the nicest. The volunteers did a great job of making the team and us fans feel right at home. Great hospitality area. :CK_brew::D

Yes -- but you've never been to the Diamond Head Classic, where every fan receives a complimentary mai-tai on admission, and Z.I.P. sings "The Hawaiian Christmas Song"  on Christmas morning.  "Mele Kalikimaka is the way we say Merry Christmas, on a bright Hawaiian Christmas Day."

  9. Sitting here, watching Stephen Austin play Southern Miss

in the Diamond Head Classic and having a good laugh at the discussion of basketball history. ;)  I followed the Miners for many years when they and my Rainbow Warriors were in the WAC together.  Between 1984 and 1992, Haskins teams played in the NCAA tournament 8 times in 9 seasons.  They went downhill after his retirement.  That was about 20 yrs ago.  They've gone so far down that they are now coached by former USC scandalized coach Tim Floyd.  On the other hand, MES is one of a handful of schools to never play in the NCAA tournament.  You're welcome. :)

  10. There seems to be a discrepancy over the ONLY way to follow tonight's game vs U. MD-ES.  First off, unlike last night, there appears to be NO stats or gametracker for tonight.  Last night, they were using the CBS Sports gametracker with fine, detailed statistical information -- now Nada!

Secondly, the radio broadcast link from the GoZips.com game notes goes to WHLO, while last night's game was broadcast on Fox 1350 (WARF?).  Try the link provided:  http://www.gozips.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/releases/20161222k6f5tz

I think the schedule page has the link to Fox Sports Radio.  Hope one works, as at least Frenchy is worthwhile.  He was so honest about the ticky-tack calls both ways last night.  Didn't hesitate to call it out when Akron got the advantage of a bad call, which happened several times, it seemed.

  11. Oregon State made a miracle 3 at the buzzer to take a 27-26 lead over KSU at halftime.  Shot much like the one Washington made at the final buzzer last Saturday night that beat WMU.  Oh, the Broncos played a good first half against #-- (fill in the blank) UCLA and trails by 12, 45-33.  Western actually led for about six minutes, before the Bruins woke up.  Western, as usual is a very game ball club.  I've always been a Steve (Minion) Hawkins fan.

Point stands, but it was UC-Santa Barbara and Iona in Vegas. The USC wins (both Southern Cal and South Carolina were in Charleston, IIR). We did beat Oregon State in Hawaii three or four years ago.

2013.  We might have another chance vs USC -- the California one -- in next year's Diamond Head Classic.
