  1. I wasn't able to listen to the game so I have to ask... was Nate guarding their leading scorer, Sean Smiley? I see he was only 1-11 for the game.
  2. I wonder if the concept for the downtown Akron arena is a larger version of that (add seating in the ends and corners and a second level and upgrade the scoreboard, seating, concessions, etc.).
  3. Odd that spicervillage.com didn't have the groundbreaking in their news and not surprising that it didn't make the ABJ . Glad to hear that it's underway though!
  4. Another take on home vs road games.
  5. It's called the "Spicer Village Townhomes" and involves the block between Brown, Spicer, Power, and Crouse. I've heard from a friend who works for the Akron water dept that they are working on the plans for vacating Emmit Ct and Gray Ct. The waterlines in the area are old and all need updating from what I've been told. No idea when they will start building. With the housing market a bit soft, it wouldn't surprise me if this project gets delayed some. I believe it is the first phase of a larger project to do the same thing (townhomes+retail) to that entire area.
  6. I think his cousin/brother/relative owns property across the street. Maybe they should consolidate their money and build a new and better Zip Strip block across the street.
  7. Class of 1895? No wonder you've got pains!
  8. I was surprised to see Ball St. among the "keep it the way it is" group.
  9. Is this a new thing or are we just new to hosting it? Do/will the locations change every year? I think it's fantastic that we are hosting it!
  10. He probably just spotted Mackey coming at him!
  11. sad, but it looks like if fits a MAC team budget
  12. some other things to consider:FL population is increasing, OH is decreasing.FL tuition is inexpensive (my son is leaning towards UCF over all Ohio schools due to cost), OH tuition is more expensiveFL weather is usually nice in the fall, OH is unpredictable and often cold and rainy
  13. story about the man behind "Zippy" WHY EVEN BRING THIS INTO THE CONVERSATION!!!!!!!!
  14. George T. Parry obit
  15. There is a brick program on the stadium page.
  16. I was informed last evening that Mr. George Parry, a UA alum ('57), benefactor, and former athlete passed away after a long battle. He is the brother of Mr. Stu Parry, the father of the UA soccer program and former coach. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Parry family in their loss.
  17. Will the band be back? We used to have a band there even when it was break. Wonder why they can't get subs if they are out of town?
  18. That should be the goal every game!
  19. Zips are 9 pt favs. Hope the team had a good practice after their Christmas break and comes out with some fire to avenge last year's loss.My guess: Zips win 80-66.
  20. I think it's more of a name recognition thing than a strength thing. Even some of the stronger teams on the schedule are no-names to the casual fan. Even Nevada was somewhat of a no-name because the casual fan had no clue that they had an NBA-caliber player (Fazekas). The local fans are very Big10-centric so any other conference gets very little notice or respect IMO.
  21. There's still that uninformed populace that doesn't know that the MAC is the same division as Big11, SEC, etc. My brother-in-law asked me this weekend if UA and Can't were in the same division as OSU and LSU yet his wife went to Can't and my wife (his sister) and I went to Akron. I think that until we can crack the Cleveland news media, we're still going to be "the small local commuter college down south".
  22. GP1, I'm sorry you feel that way about the OOC schedule. I for one enjoy seeing the new kids and seeing the team develop before the conference games begin. Yes, many of the games this year are against lesser talent, but they are usually teams that are or have been at the top of their respective conferences. The Nevada game last year was a nice challenge and I have faith that KD will have more of those type of games in the future. Until then, we can support our team, cheer their improvement, and prepare for MAC play.
  23. I'm also in the engineering field and wouldn't mind the switch to metric. I think everyone knows about what a liter is (2L soda bottles) so it shouldn't be hard to convert the remaining liquid commodities (gas might be hard; with price sensitivity what it is it would be tough to switch without someone thinking they're getting shafted worse). As for the FCS... FBS... I have never heard anyone outside the media using the terms so I can't see it ever really catching on.
  24. Great story! Wish there was something similar to read in the ABJ!
  25. Zips are 14-1/2 pt fav's.Let's hope they cover and then some!
