  1. the biggest blow to the MLS and my fantasy team is Thierry Henry's injury. He was off to an amazing start.
  2. Fox broadcasted an EPL game on the main national channel during the MLS Cup. It's odd because it's extremely rare for them to broadcast a soccer game on their national channel. I assume the reason Fox did this is because they weren't happy the MLS Cup was being broadcasted on ESPN. The MLS made the right move with NBC. Fox treated the MLS like a 2nd rate league, NBC treats the MLS with a lot more respect and do a better job covering the games than anyone else. It seems each team have their own announcers and I think only 3 or 4 teams have an announcer with a UK accent. I have Matchday Live and I love it. It's only $50 and well worth it. There's a thread on Zipsnation with a coupon code in it. I also posted a few things in this thread about the MLS's progress this year
  3. we can now start speculating about the starting roster, we'll need a thread for that. Mevis started the 2nd half I think.
  4. it comes down to the TV deal now.
  5. with the AQ status gone, can we ditch the idea of joining the Big East and focus on making the MAC a better conference? Adding ODU or James Madison to the MAC would help basketball and soccer.
  6. 6-2 with 9 minutes left
  7. 5-2 with 10 minutes left
  8. 4-2 with 22 to go in 2nd
  9. Akron goal with 3 seconds left in 1st. 3-1 at half
  10. Akron goes up 2-1 at the 17th minute
  11. Wright State scored within 2 minutes, Zips down 0-1. Wearing a new kit today. Gold with white sleeves. No numbers. Mevis didn't start. Akron just tied it at the 5 minute mark
  12. Removing the AQ status sorta makes the BCS conference status irrelevant.
  13. goal by Sinisa Ubiparipovic!!! 2nd of the year. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2012-...?videoID=183682
  14. ESPN has been covering this a lot lately. Plan would link sites, conferences This is very good news for the MAC and Akron.
  15. Michael Nanchoff declared fit to play today, could get minutes in front of his 500+ supporters in Columbus http://www.whitecapsfc.com/news/2012/04/wh...g-columbus-crew
  16. The weather is going to be crap for this game.
  17. Akron Zips Football 2,135 likes (UA does not maintain, just an interest topic) Akron Zips Soccer 3,969 likes (I believe UA maintains it) the rest don't have many likes and are probably not maintained by the University. The one everyone should like is this Ohio State Suckeyes have 1,189,692 likes
  18. Based on reported. How it's reported is up to the UA. The free events should be based on butts in seats considering no tickets are sold for those events.
  19. Zips soccer has had decent attendance numbers over the past 4-5 years. I remember going to soccer games in 2005-2006 where I thought the attendance was good (1000's). Possible negative impact The Beacon Journal has started to neglect Akron soccer lately. George Thomas runs the Zips Blog now and I believe he's your typical baby boomer soccer hater. The past few spring games weren't mentioned in the paper, even the game against Cleveland State. But this has nothing to do with football's success. Parking conflicts could arise from home football and soccer games being played on the same day. We tailgate in Lot 9 for soccer games which is also used for football tailgating. If attendance increases for football games, it's going to be harder for us soccer tailgaters to park together. Here's the only data I've found regarding Zips revenue and expenses. The data is very old, dates back to the Rubber Bowl days If I could find current data, I'd love to analyze it.
  20. regular season attendance numbers for Zips Athletics. Zips Football Attendance: Zips Men's Soccer Attendance: Zips Woman's Soccer Attendance: Zips Basketball and Other Sports Attendance:
  21. Even if he doesn't play, party awaits Nanchoff in Columbus Read More
  22. "soccer is poised and positioned to potentially overtake baseball in popularity in this country in the future" Couldn't agree more.
