Can't State is garbage. Sooner or later that University is going to be another local tech school.
-
Blame AHMA for that. They are making tons of money off our tax dollars with the Mayflower. Every night I go to the Barley House, I get approached by a Mayflower druggy. They ask me for money all the time. I don't support helping Zombies feed their drug/alcohol habbits. Giving them money only provides them the means to continue it. They don't need money for food. There are great organizations and churches that I highly respect in this area that already provide them with that.I like how AMHA wants you to think they are making a better living for section 8 people underneath the bridge but what they’re really doing is charging the state more for people to live there. Hopefully one day my REIT will get big enough and I'll do some development around here that will benefit this city and its quality. I want to bring people to this city, not milk it dry. And after I do that, I promise you you’ll never see a bar promoting a Suckeye game while the Zips are on TV. I think the Mayflower has potential, but instead, it's being wasted on section 8 garbage. It's in a perfect location for the University. I've been looking at buying some properties around downtown in the near future, my problem is that I'll have the Mayflower and it's garbage down the street.
-
I wish they would have bought the Mayflower instead so the POS that lives there would have to pack up and leave. It's really an eye sore in downtown Akron when you have section 8 druggies all over the place because there home is right in the middle. I have a little beef with AMHA for doing that. The Mayflower would be perfect for business students and is right next to polsky.

the Golf Outing for Accounting students is on June 1st. 18 holes and good food for only $10.

Zen, I appreciate your opinions and think you're a well educated man. I am by far not a Democrat and I'm not supporting Fingerhut's proposal because he's a Democrat. I support his proposal because it's a change this area needs to make to get into the "profit zone." I am very against one sided politics because I think it stops a lot of things from getting done and it only creates static tension in this country. If someone in a party that I'm not affliated with has something good to say, I'll listen to it and judge it not based on his party, but on the content's pros vs. cons.

Zen, the only thing I got from reading your point of view is Libertarian bias opinions. Why even bring politics in this? It's not about politics, it's about making a change for the future. Some of the best CEOs in this country had to face resistence against change within (Jack Welch, Michael Eisner, Roberto Goizueta, Andrew Grove, Lee Iococca, etc). The idea is to get the local Universities scope and strategic controls more focused and better suited for the changing future. You're against this because you don't want the government sticking their head into their own business. Can't State's last President gave several speeches about merging the schools in Northeast Ohio. The State funds the school, they should decide the future just as much as the president of the Universities. And it seems like the presidents of these Universities are favoring this move as well. This area needs find more effecient ways of doing things. The change is for the better. We don't want education to turn into a commodity.
-
The University is a State non-profit college funded by the State of Ohio, not a free market company that can make tons of profits like the University of Phoenix.I think it would be smart and effecient for a UAkron-Can't or UAkron-CSU merge. You can then cut certain programs at one campus that the other is better at, like business. Can't State's business school is a joke compared to Akron. But Can't's education program is probably a lot better than Akron. With a merge, both schools won't have to compete, they can instead offer different programs and specializing in them. A more effecient and strategic University would become of this merger. If you're educated in business at all, you'd be for it. They could also save a lot of money by having one sports program in the area instead of 2 or 3, plus that sports program would be a powerhouse with a huge market available to it.It's time for a change that will benefit this area in the long run, the old fashioned thinking will only make things worse.

Everyone in Akron calls it "Akron U." It's easier to say than the University of Akron and sounds better than U Akron.

The only way for the Zips to advance in this community is for the Akron Beacon Journal to champion the Zips as their #1 team, not some local event option to their current #1 team(you know who I'm talking about).Look back at the paper the day after draft and you'll see what i'm talking about. Andy Alleman got small mention and it was shared with someone from Can't while someone else got a whole article to himself.

Whether you're a Frye fan or not, the Browns made a good choice. The Frye v. Quinn controversy will sell tickets and draw media attention to Cleveland. This will also give Frye a good wake up call, 'play like a NFL starting quarterback or hit the bench.'We all know Frye will start the first few games unless he gets injured in pre-season. So he'll have one last shot to prove himself in the NFL. The Browns O-Line is no longer a weak link and with Jamal Lewis, the offense has the tools to make things happen. If Frye plays great, he'll gain value for the Browns as a franchise QB. If that's the case, the Browns have the leverage to trade Quinn. Frye's destiny is in his own hands. If Frye fails to produce, Brady Quinn will have a chance to be the Browns new franchise QB. I look at Brady Quinn as a good Insurance Policy.

I was wondering if there was something wrong with the site because it takes me to a white screen if I click on someones name or when I try to change my profile info.

I think a lot of us would love to see Andy in a Browns Uniform but if Joe Staley doesn't get picked in the first round, he would be a great second round pick for the Browns.
-
Just like Tim Couch did?
-
I'd like to see the browns pick him up in the 3rd. !st round Calvin Johnson or Joe Thomas, not Brady Quinn!!!
-
dumb video

Danny Wuerffel, Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Eli Manning, etc. Next to the list, Brady Quinn!!

The article below is one example of the huge disadvantage we have as a mid-major conference. This board has been hot and heavy on how to improve our stature and presence in the sports world. Everybody is for improvements but lets be realistic when we talk about "lets try this or that" like the big boys. We are lucky to have a broadcast let alone receive money from the producers.________________________________________________________________________________UW's proposed media deal nears approvalMadison - A multi-million dollar contract extension between the University of Wisconsin athletic department and Learfield Communications moved one step closer to formal approval Thursday. The Business, Finance and Audit Committee of the UW Board of Regents, meeting at UW-Oshkosh, recommended approval of the deal that would provide UW more than $76 million over the next 12 years. The deal, if approved, would extend the current agreement by 10 years and run through June 30, 2019.The full Board of Regents is scheduled to take action today on the committee's recommendation."It passed its first step," said Vince Sweeney, senior associate athletic director for external relations. "We'll know (Friday) whether it's soup or not."Some highlights of the proposed contract extension:Starting no later than May 1 of this year, Learfield would make a total of 12 annual payments totaling $75,025,000.Learfield would increase the annual rights fee for the final two years of the current contract by a combined $2,040,000. UW would be paid $4,925,000 on or before May 1 of this year and $5,425,000 on or before May 1 2008.Learfield would pay a one-time extension bonus of $1 million and pay $750,000 toward the instillation of courtside LED signage at the Kohl Center and LED fascia signage at Camp Randall Stadium.Learfield would continue to manage coaches' TV and radio shows and be responsible for live radio broadcasts of football, men's basketball, women's basketball and men's hockey games. Learfield would have limited TV broadcast rights for men's hockey, women's basketball and women's volleyball.Officials from Learfield first proposed the contract extension last June. UW felt comfortable with the deal after studying similar deals of other athletic departments."I think the committee was receptive to it and showed their support," Sweeney said. "I'm optimistic the full board will have the same viewpoint."
Lucky? That's BS. There's money to be made off Akron games, if not much, it's still money and profits. We are lucky to have a broadcast let alone receive money from the producers? -
Based on the fact that Akron > OSU
-
Boo Hoo, an oddsmaker lost money.

Honestly, I think we'll beat OSU. The only problem with the Bowling Green game is that it's away and later in the season. We'll see what happens though. Predictions are predictions so we'll have to wait and see. The only thing I'm positive about is beating tOSU Suckeyes.
-
I'm impressed!! I hope we can get more transfers like that.
-
anyone can beat OSU

Dennis Kennedy is a huge threat as a receiver. He also had a good game against Penn State from what I remember. I think he has the starting job locked up.
-
I really like what I'm hearing on GoZips.com Nate Robinson and Dennis Kennedy are players I have high expectations for. The only question right now is who will be the starting quarterback? still nothing, I hope this can be fixed soon. I'd like to update my signature. I know people are worried I might become a little more anti Suckeye in it, but I'll try hard not to (even though it will be really hard to overcome that urge).
