  1. Ya, they are a yellowish color. It has the AK-Rowdies logo on the front with a spoof the the "Real Men of Genius" Bud commercials on the back that relates to Akron sports...I was hoping for blue shirts again, but ah well
  2. Disclaimer: I'm really, really, really, realllllly not trying to rip into the AK-Rowdies here. I think the leadership has been great and the energy and enthusiasm for the group is wonderful. I know I'm probably going to ruffle some feathers here, but I just want the best for the group...I really do. So please, don't take this as me bashing things...take it as an avid AK-Rowdy providing some feedback on everything. Overall, tonight's meeting didn't seem to accomplish much. It was cool to hear from Ricky McFadden, and Jodi Kest showed great enthusiasm...and that's about it. There was really no need to practice the Romeo or Dials chants...and anyone who has been to a basketball game before knows the airball chant. All of the new chants could've be described on a paper handed out to games or an email sent out to everyone...they are good but not tough to figure out. The other stuff just didn't seem important. Many in attendance got off work or skipped out on working on assignments that are due soon to attend this meeting because it was "mandatory" and because "everyone needed to be there"...and that's fine. And I do want to point out that I emailed one of the leaders and told them I wasn't sure if I could make it and they said they'd work something out...very cool and courteous. I guess what I'm saying is this...I spent over an hour at the JAR tonight and feel like all I got out of it was a t-shirt. In the future, aside from more advanced notice, we need to make the meetings meaningful...have people sign up for committees, and explain what you need help with....brainstorm ideas for chants and promotions...do things that are progressive and have value to both the AK-Rowdies leaders and members. Practicing chants that 90% of the people there already knew for 25 minutes is not progressive and has no value to anyone. Again, I hope this hasn't come off wrong...I'm not trying to be a prick. I love Akron, I have sat in the student section for the past 6 years and will continue to do so, and will go to meetings in the future. But if I was a student just joining the group and this was my first meeting, I'm not sure that I'd look at tonight as anything other than a waste of time. We need to make sure that that doesn't happen, because they'd miss out on the many, many great things the group has done and will do in the future. Here's to a great season for the Zips and the Rowdies P.S. Please, please, please, please, please, please, PLEASE don't do the "Z-I...P-S!" chant like Ohio State does with "O-H...I-O!"...everyone wants to separate from OSU, but then straight rip off their cheer? Let's stick with our own creative chants...we have some good ones.
  3. Well it looks like I'm just going to have to agree to disagree with you guys. Is the offensive line bad? YesIs the running game inconsistent? YesHave the receivers struggled at times? YesIs Charlie Frye still a huge reason for the Browns poor season? Yes..yes he isOverall numbers?63% passer, 9 TD, 12 INT, 39 sacks, 73.8 RATThat's 2nd most in the league in sacks (many of which are his own fault), 2nd most INT's, 26th in RATHis numbers in the 4th quarter, when the game is on the line?59% passer, 2 TD, 6 INT, 12 sacks, 57.6 RATHow can you defend that???? Tim Couch (who's out of the league now) did better than that with a supporting cast that has ZERO weapons. The guy is an NFL backup...a good one...but he's no starter. He stares down receivers, he doesn't step up in the pocket, he forces throws, he doesn't get rid of the ball when he does have time...he's just not that good. I'd love to see the guy succeed, because it'd be one less thing that the Browns had to get in the offseason. But it's just not the case guys...defend him til the end if you'd like, but he won't be the Browns long term starter...and shouldn't be.
  4. Honestly, I think it's cool that Cowher said that to Frye, but...He still sucks. I'm sorry, if he wasn't from Akron everyone would be saying the same thing. He's a backup in the NFL (a good one), but he will not be a starter.
  5. Hopefully we all do a bit better than our football picks!!!Regular Season Losses - Nevada, @Texas Tech, @ Can't State, @ OhioAfter Regular Season - 24-4 (MAC Champs)After MAC Tourney - 27-4 (MAC Champs)After NCAA Tourney - 28-5 (2nd Round Exit)
  6. GP1,You sure about that? I thought I read that you needed one traveling by January 1st, 2007 if you're going by air, and then in January 2008 it becomes by car as well....or something like that.
  7. I simply can't imagine Luke Getsy playing on Sundays...
  8. And you think Frye would be playing well otherwise? Many of his mistakes have been when he's had plenty of time...you can only blame the o-line for so much...You are wrong. Without an offensive line what can happen other than mistakes, injuries and losses? It is impossible to blame the o-line enough! So you think with a decent line Frye wouldn't be doing as poorly as he is? Honestly?
  9. And you think Frye would be playing well otherwise? Many of his mistakes have been when he's had plenty of time...you can only blame the o-line for so much...
  10. I disagree that Charlie has always been mediocre. He was a great COLLEGE quarterback. I just don't think he pans out to anything better than a good backup in the NFL though.
  11. Frye is on a bad team with some pretty poor playcalling...but cmon man, he's been mediocre at best. Look up his 4th quarter numbers alone...pathetic when it matters most
  12. Luke Getsy135 of 263, 51%, 1783 yards, 11 TD, 7 INT, 117 RATCharlie Frye124 of 201, 62%, 1188 yards, 6 TD, 10 INT, 67 RATHuge disappointments this season...
  13. Why does Can't have more to play for than OU? If OU wins, they immediately jump into the drivers seat in the MAC East. I just don't understand this line of thought at all.
  14. I prefer night games, although I understand why its an earlier game...won't be as cold. So I'm kind of indifferent on it.One thing bobby, and I'm really not going to get into the whole OSU thing with you again, because we obviously disagree and I do totally respect your opinions...BUT:"I called out a bunch of children and adults wearing OSU clothes at the Akron game."Please tell me you aren't really bugging little kids about this. Adults? Fine...but leave the kids alone man.
  15. I can't believe some of you guys. Akron has Toledo, BG, Buffalo, OU, and Western Michigan left. OU has Can't, E. Michigan, Akron, and Miami left. Can't has OU, Buffalo, E. Michigan, and Ball St. left. For a tiebreaker to happen we would need:1) Akron to win out (very possible if they play to their capabilities)2) OU to beat Can't, lose to us, and win against EM and MU (very possible)3) Can't to lose to OU and get upset by one of Buffalo, EM, or Ball State. Why is #3 so out of the realm of possibility? Since when did Can't State become an elite, unbeatable force like Ohio State or Michigan? They lost to Army, got shut out by Minnesota, squeeked by Miami, and beat an unimpressive bunch (minus Akron) in BG, Temple, and Toledo. And now it's impossible to think that they might lose to one tough team and then get upset in one of three games????? In the MAC??????Really think about that people...this is just disgusting...you never EVER give up on your team until all possibilities are out the window.
  16. AKRON VS. WESTCentral Michigan - LToledo Western MichiganCan't VS. WESTToledo - WE. MichiganBall StateOHIO VS. WESTNorthern Illinois - WWestern Michigan - WEastern MichiganAre you sure we'd get the tiebreak? Is it strength of schedule or record against the West?
  17. Does anyone remember the tiebreaker from last year?I got to thinking today...say OU beats Can't State, we beat OU, and Can't State drops one to one of the Western teams. If all teams had 2 MAC losses, who would get the tiebreak?
  18. Anything new for the AK-Rowdies with bball season soon approaching? I still wish UA would wise up and give us one of the side, lower sections...
  19. Has anyone picked up the magazine and if so, where did you find it? I'm curious to see what they say about Akron after ranking them #20 in the preseason. My email isnt working right now...can someone maybe e-mail Tom Gaffney and ask him? He is the one who reported it for ohio.com...his email addy: tgaffney@thebeaconjournal.comThanks in advance to anyone who can help!
  20. I think there was a big difference between last year's football and basketball seasons...the football team was up and down throughout and red hot towards the end, while the basketball team was pretty good throughout, until their 2nd half collapse in the MAC tourney. As for the size issue, I firmly believe we would've defeated Can't State last year at Can't had Wood been healthy. He isn't that big but he plays big, and is an excellent rebounder. A healthy Jeremiah Wood is going to do wonders for this team, and should help Travis quite a bit as well.
  21. Count me in as being VERY excited for this season. You have to think...a team that won 23 games has ADDED two starters, and good ones at that. It's going to be a special year folks...

  23. Can't State only beats Temple 28-17...still a win, but less than impressive. I'm telling you guys, it's wayyyyy too early to proclaim them MAC East Champs.
