  1. Never have I said I can evaluate NFL talent as well as those in the front offices. But I do know a bad NFL QB when I see one...and apparently so do the Cleveland Browns (see today's news). As for the rest of my posts, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. I've followed Akron sports religiously over the past 7 seasons...going to just about every home game, traveling to road games, supporting this team as much as anyone else on this board. And yet, because I cheer for OSU as my 2nd favorite team and because I don't think Frye is a good NFL QB, somehow I'm not a Zips fan according to idiots like you.Hey, if you want to be a glorified cheerleader, be my guest. I'll continue to give my honest opinions on everything and continue to support the Zips as much as I always have. Maybe you can go help bobbyake build his skyscrapers.
  2. Shaffer got pancaked so bad, I have never seen a pro O lineman look so bad.No wonder Atlanta had a rally when the Browns signed him.Thomas looked TERRIBLE too. I counted at least two sacks he gave up.I think the Zips O line looked better this weekend than Charlie's line did. You aren't talking about the play where Thomas had his block and Frye ran right into the guy anyways, are you? I thought Thomas did fine. It's funny...the O-line "gives up" 5 sacks while Frye is in there for three POSSESIONS and only1 sack while Anderson is in for three QUARTERS and some of you don't see the connection...
  3. I could care less if I'm a "villian"...Like many others (BuckZip, skhor, RowdyZip, etc), I don't bullshit, and some people can't handle that. A lot of people here don't want to hear what you say unless you believe the Zips will go undefeated and every Zip in the pros is a future HOF'er. But it's good...I think sometimes this forum needs the people who can remove the Zips blinders and bring a realistic perspective to the topics.
  4. Last year, I buy that argument. Not this year. How many times did Charlie have plenty of time to throw today? Quite a bit actually...How many times did Charlie step into the pocket and make a strong throw, or use his scrambling ability to get away and get rid of the ball when he was pressured? I can count on one hand...It was the o-line...then it was the receivers...then the staff...then the front office...at what point do we just admit that it may be Charlie - and not the guys around him - that is the problem? WHERE YOU WATCHING THE SAME GAME?I doubt you could count the number of times charlie got a chance to throw on more than two hands. And I thought THIS LEVEL blinding bias was relegated to politics. My god. Could you possibly desire for someone to look bad anymore than this? Please don't portray your ill will as reasoned thinking. The fact is the offense did not move the chains with Frye taking the snaps. That's the inevitable truth that cannot be denied. Let's leave it at that. I will not sit here and list all the bullshit sacks, pressures, and DROPPED PASSES that happened in 3 very quick series. What's amazing is that you STILL can't admit that you're wrong about the guy. I'm blind to reason?Seriously...name one thing Charlie did well. ONE. It's funny...you want to ignore all of the "bullshit" statistics...you know, the ones that prove Frye was horrible today. Frye - 4/10, 34 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 5 SacksDA - 13/28, 184 yds, 1 TD, 1 SackHow did the same offensive line - which is supposedly letting Charlie down - allow 5 sacks in 3 series' with him and then only allow one the rest of the game? You think maybe it has more to do with Charlie and less to do with the line, the receivers, and everyone else?
  5. By the way...Anyone notice that Frye got sacked 5 times, while Anderson got sacked once?
  7. Why does everyone continue to make excuses for the guy????? We're now blaming Cleveland for screwing him up mentally? No matter where he played or will play, Charlie has the same weak arm, will make the same bad decisions with the ball, and keep the same poor field awareness he currently possesses. Why did the chains start moving when Derek Anderson - a guy most seem to think is a joke (and I think is average at best) came into the game?
  8. Instead of making the same stupid, uncreative jokes about me, why not make some arguments that support your disagreement with me? Or at least admit you were wrong about the guy...that'll do as well.
  9. Didn't seem like the fans had much attachment to Frye today...And I'm not sure what him being in Atlanta would do - he'd still have his same skill set. In a game where he didn't do one thing well...or even OK...people still defend him and blame the rest of the team. He wasn't benched because of the fans, or because of Quinn...he was benched because he can't move the chains. He was benched because he continually makes mistakes and kills the offense. He was benched because the running game can't do squat when the defense knows Frye won't throw over 5-10 yards downfield. Simply put - he was benched because he hasn't been and wasn't today successful in doing his job. There's only so many times you can blame the receivers, O-Line, Front Office, etc etc etc instead of Charlie...it's time he's held accountable.
  10. Anyone who watched the game saw that Derek Anderson (not a very good QB..average at best) is far better than Frye. He at least steps up into the pocket, gets rid of the ball, and actually tries throwing the ball down field. Frye had plenty of time to throw today...on his first INT, Edwards was WIDE open on the left side. He gives his all...thats for certain...but he is just a terrible NFL QB.
  11. I hear ya...and I do expect some of that reaction lol. But I think that being realistic is important for everyone. We're not there...yet...but will be, and sooner rather than later.
  12. Great post...can't find much that I disagree with...and good to hear your gameday experience was a positive one
  13. I don't look at it that way, but I can understand how it could be taken that way as well. Let me clarify...Many think the Zips are already as good as the OSU's, Penn State's, Wisconsin's, Michigan's (OK, maybe them ), but this game proved otherwise to me. OSU played horrible football...and won by 18. The gap is certainly closing fast, but is still there. I do think that when the teams meet again, Akron may finally pull off the victory...I really do.
  14. There's a lot of open threads right now, so this is kind of a response to them and a bit of extra...just random thoughts I guess. And we'll do it Peter King style lolTEN THINGS I THINK AFTER YESTERDAY'S GAME-----------------------------------------------------I think...1. ...the Zips came ready to play and that Brookhart had them ready to go. They didn't seem to play scared at all (which many teams do in games like this) and played like they expected to win. A very good sign about the team's overall attitude. 2) ...if they had any offense, they might've had a chance at winning the ballgame. OSU's wasn't much better, but they won the battle of the lines in the end, which sealed their victory. 3) ...that Akron gave OSU quite a scare...and that MAC teams are doing that a lot this year, evening earning a few upsets. It's a great thing for the conference - hopefully people notice. 4) ...that at the same time, with Akron playing well and OSU playing an absolutely horrid game - they still won by 18 points. While we've definitely taken a step in the right direction, I think that says a lot about the still-wide gap between the two programs. 5) ...that the new Fear the Roo logo is cool...but changing it already? Seems too soon. 6) ...that the Zips have a really good shot at beating Indiana, but that they'll have to come out with the same intensity next week that they did against OSU. Every game on the remaining schedule is a very winnable game. 7) ...that Jabari Arthur is going to have a big year. How about him shaking off OSU tackle-attempts like it was nothing? Dude is a beast...let's hope JD takes full advantage of his skills. Too bad Harvey isn't still around...that'd be a heckuva 1-2 punch. 8) ...that the atmosphere at an OSU game is absolutely amazing. Love them or hate them, you have to admit that it's college football atmosphere at it's best, with the energy from the crowd and all of the traditions. I hope once the new stadium opens, we can go from 100 students yelling and the alumni sitting on their asses to something like this. 9) ...that the only way that fan base will grow is if Zips fans quit this "woe is me" attitude. Attacking other teams' fans and traditions, saying they aren't that good, complaining about what shirts the waitresses are wearing at a sports bar, what game a bar's TVs have on, complaining anytime the entire sports section of the paper isn't devoted to UA, attacking fans of your own school. There are tons and tons of amazing, passionate, great Zips fans, and you make us all look bad. Instead of pushing people away from Akron football, help build the fan base up. Pulling this crap - like telling someone they'll never go anywhere in life because they cheer for another team - isn't going to do that. 10) ...that following this post, it'd be nice if we could all move forward as "Zips fans", united in the goal of winning the MAC and reaching a Bowl Game once again...sharing thoughts intelligently, not bashing each other for silly reasons, and welcoming fans from other teams who might come to this board throughout the year. We have a team and a city to be proud of - let's make it so that we are able to say the same thing about our fan base. Heck, I need a #11...11) GO ZIPS!
  15. And Akron fans are pleasant to rival fans?
  16. Interesting subplot with the rain...certainly makes it into a matchup of the running games. Can Kennedy outrun Wells? And does it take Arthur out of the game?
  17. Turnovers is the key, and starting off playing well early in the game. I still remember Akron being right in the game in their last meeting with the Bucks, only to choke away the opportunity with two boneheaded plays in a row. Can't happen today.
  18. Way to spin poor fan support into Akron fans not being a "Buckeye lemming"...priceless. The fan base not getting out to the game today is absolutely inexcusable. Also inexcusable is Akron's Athletic Department making people buy season tickets AND a game ticket for today's matchup. In a game with such National and state exposure, we should've done everything possible to get as many students/fans down to the Shoe. Instead, it'll just look like nobody gives a shit about Akron - something we all know isn't true. First the Nevada basketball game BS, now this...boy do I miss the last AD/regime.
  19. Dude...do you not understand the following? -1) I have family that went to OSU, which is why I like them.2) They are my #2 - I will be cheering for Akron today. BTW, I find it silly to rip on OSU's traditions. When we can do this, or anything close to it - ...then we can talk.
  20. 1) I'm not a kid2) Shouldn't you be sketching your plans for your skyscrapers?
  21. And why do you consider Manning as having great skills? Because he played for Tennessee? If Charlie Frye had went to Tennessee and broken 54 school records while playing there would you still say he didn't have talent? If Manning had played for Alcorn State would you still consider him having great skill? The fact is the Frye haters are mostly mid major haters. They think if they didn't play for the Big 10, SEC, ACC or PAC 10 then they are worthless. "They must not have any talent or else Michigan would have recruited them."The fact is, Frye has the ability, he was on every (and yes i do mean every) teams list as a 1st day selection. If you think Quinn will in after 6-8 weeks that's your issue. There are too many "have to have it now" fans in Cleveland that don't understand that every team that has ever won a superbowl didn't do it over night. I stick by my prediction that Frye will have a Superbowl ring before Quinn ever does (and i don't think Quinn will ever have one because he can't win big games and he can't come from behind) Are you seriously questioning whether or not Peyton Manning had/has great skills/ability? Seriously? His arm strength, passing accuracy, field awareness, ability to read defenses, etc etc etc etc etc....you are questioning that? It has nothing to do with what college he went to, and everything to do with his ability to play QB in the NFL. I think Ben Roethlisberger is and Byron Leftwich was a very good NFL QB, and they both went to MAC schools. McNair had a superb NFL career, and he came from Alcorn. Never did I say I didn't think Frye had the skills because he came from Akron...you're just trying to put words into my mouth. He simply doesn't have the skills to be a starter - just my opinion. By the way, your knock on Quinn is that he can't win a big game? Tell me - what big game did Frye ever win?
  22. g-mann -What great points has he made? This is the defense presented concerning Frye:1. "He makes things happen" (???)2. He throws well on the move (Not even sure I'd agree...better, but not well)3. He doesn't have anything around him (Apparently he isn't held accountable for his play)4. He and Manning had the same QB rating in their first 16 startsSure, we can compare the first years of Manning and Roethlisberger and every other QB with Frye's. And sure, they might be close. But think about Peyton Manning coming out of college...he had unbelievable skills and talent - he just needed experience. Does Frye have unbelievable skills and talent? No...and that's a HUGE difference between the two. It's silly to even compare them at any point. I swear, I've seen some of the silliest arguments made regarding Frye on this board. I understand - he was a Zip. But that doesn't mean you need to make excuse after excuse for him for why he has put up nothing but poor statistics, has failed to lead the team to victory, and has not made great strides from the time he started to the present. Enjoy it while it lasts...it's Brady Quinn time in 6-8 weeks...and for good.
  23. "They" was one person...I'm just saying.
  24. 1) He makes things happen2) He throws well on the move*that was just two direct responses. He also has a lot of other qualities, some of them considered 'intageables', like "heart", is a very good study [game preparation] and strong understanding of his offenses and defense. That's not just me. I am paraphrasing things I've heard Bernie Kosar say about him 1) He "makes things happen"? What exactly? The statistics show that he doesn't make much happen at all...2) So his main strength is throwing on the move (which I don't even think he does overly well)...doesn't that tell us something about him?I'm not trying to be a jerk...I'm just saying...
  25. And again, you avoid my questions. You still haven't told me why you believe he's a good NFL QB, and still haven't said what he does especially well. Instead you deflect those questions and attack me. I do respect your opinion, and don't think I'm always right at all. I was genuinely interested to see the other side of the story. But you having no responses to my questions and no support to your opinions doesn't add much credibility to your side...that's all I'm saying.
