To me, it's obvious that Brady Quinn > Charlie Frye. Quinn had better stats in college and has more pure ability than C Frye. sgm, My only argument with you is that you tend to overstate things. It is not obvious that Brady Quinn > Charlie Frye. Stats don't make anything obvious. Even Phil Savage said that this draft could eventually be proven to be a mistake. (I'm forgetting his actual words, and he wasn't specifically referring to Quinn.) There is no way to tell until Quinn actually plays in the NFL.I guess my problem is that I don't like bashing people, especially people who work hard. Charlie certainly has a great work ethic. I wish the Browns would have given him more (mentoring, a decent offensive system, better OL) with which to work. I hope he is able to go elsewhere and prove all of the Frye haters wrong. He's a fellow alum, and I will always wish him well, even if he played for the Baltimore Ravens ( ). I wish Frye the best of luck...I really do. But that doesn't mean I'm going to claim things I don't believe. And it doesn't mean I'm not going to be excited to see a move that I think makes the Browns much better now and in the long run. Personally, I think Frye is average at best and I don't think he's a starter in the NFL. Others disagree, and that's fine. My problem was getting questioned on being a Zips fan just because I don't think a guy who ranked near or at the bottom of every statistical category last year is a very good QB. Although I don't expect him to ever start again, Frye will get a chance elsewhere I'm sure, and will get to prove me and "other haters" wrong. And in the grand scheme of things, he's getting millions to play a wonderful game. I think he'll be fine no matter what.

Contradict yourself much? You say the Browns are stupid for this pick because Miami (who needs a QB badly) passed on Quinn at #9 for a kick returner? Wouldn't that mean they don't have the best judgment in drafting? A few questions for you...1) Who said Quinn "walked on water" or "slobbered" over him? I don't remember that. 2) What makes you think Frye is not only a starting QB in the NFL, but also one that could lead a team to the Super Bowl? I'm not being sarcastic with this one...I'm genuinely curious to see what you think...cuz I just don't see it man.

I DO agree that Frye, like other past QB's, has had little to work with. But the thing is, when Frye DID get time to throw, he still wasn't very effective. His pocket presence is horrible, he doesn't have a strong arm...he forces passes and makes many bad decisions. He does some things decently well and he's tough as nails, but he's an average QB at best in the NFL. To me, it's obvious that Brady Quinn > Charlie Frye. Quinn had better stats in college and has more pure ability than C Frye. The only question to me was whether or not it was worth a 1st and a 2nd to grab him.I do credit the Browns for FINALLY realizing the importance of the O-Line by signing Steinbach (the best FA OL) and drafting Thomes (the best College OL). 'Bout damn time!

I don't like Brady Quinn (I hateeee Notre Dame). And I do think there are some serious question marks about him.BUT...I think the Browns have a chance to win more football games now and in the future with BQ at QB instead of CF or DA. And because of that, I love the move.

Charlie Frye had a chance to succeed as a starter for the Browns, and he failed. I wish it had gone down differently, as I'm a Browns fan and since I'd love to see a former Zip do well...but it just didn't happen that way. Do you realize in that defending Frye, the only positive you came back with was that he was "tough enough to take a pounding"? That's the best thing you could say? That should tell you all there is to know about Charlie. He's a backup in this league...and hey, there's nothing wrong with that. He can be a good one, and it takes a helluva lot of talent just to stick in the league, even as a backup. I just don't see how my opinion of Charlie Frye has anything to do with my allegiance to Akron. Do I have to pretend I think every former Zip is a superstar player to be a "true fan"? Why do you take it personally that someone disagrees with you? And can't you just leave it at that - two people who obviously know sports that disagree on a sports topic? Geez man...settle down...

Charlie Frye in the 4th quarter in 2007:70-118, 700 yards, 59.3%, 2 TD, 7 INT, 15 sacks, 57 RAT And Derek Anderson is nicknamed "choke"?Let's face it...as I said before, Charlie's a backup in this league. A good one...but not more than a backup.P.S. If you're no longer a Browns fan (and a Steelers fan now to boot) because they picked up Brady Quinn in an effort to get better, then you weren't much of a fan in the first place IMO.

Anyone have any further information about Kellog? I don't know much about the guy.
-
He got dicked over? How? He had his chance to prove himself as a starting QB and failed. Period. Now he can go be a backup somewhere else.
-
I don't know if I agree with that. Frye would look better will better talent around him, but is still pretty average at best.
-
I agree! Are you sure you didn't miss him SGM? I have another site that has him getting picked by the Titans in the 3rd round with overall pick #80.Mock Draft Source - Bazuin 3rd Rd Yep, I missed him...my bad! I edited the original post I made to include him
-
I agree that Peterson is the better pick. However, I do think they need to find a QB...just not Quinn at #3. Maybe give Anderson a shot or draft one next year.

A full seven round Mock Draft was posted by ESPN's Todd McShay hours ago. As with any other Mock, none of this is obviously set in stone - just someone's educated guesses. But hey, it still gives us something to talk about leading up to the draft. mcperp,Honestly, I think RowdyZip's initial statement was just playful ribbing, and it only escalated when timmyboy called him an asshole. But I do agree that timmyboy is a great contributor to the site. Luckily it seems like everything has now blown over and everyone is all good. InTheZone,Thanks for taking down the picture...I know you meant it in good fun, and I'm not usually one to play "P.C. Police"...but I didn't like the idea of making light of such a tragic event. Sure, those who burned down the ROTC building were wrong...and yes, many of the violent protesters were wrong. But for the National Guard to fire into a crowd of college kids and kill four innocent students...that was on a whole other level of wrong. There's plenty to make fun of Can't State for, there's no need to bring up the events of that day. Again, kudos for taking it down.

Eric Coblentz speaking to Dambrot

It's going to be very interesting to see how the roster ends up shaking out...there's A LOT of players in the mix:Locks (7): Wood, Milum, Middleton, Dials, Linhart, Conyers, C. McKnightShould Be In (6): Swiech, B. McKnight, Steward, Bardo, McNees, RybakThen you still have Goddard, Carroll, Sallee, Sowers, and whoever else I'm forgetting that will also be competing for roster spots. -
It'll be interesting to see what happens. If he comes back, they could have quite a few good WR's and it would help CJ quite a bit. Hopefully he does...and soon.

I didn't really talk to 30 year old undergrads back when I played either.... but hey, maybe that was just me. I do hear Ted Ginn and Greg Oden are accepting blow jobs from such people however.... sar·casm (sär'kāz'əm) n. 1. A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound. 2. A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule.I mean...you are smart enough to realize that I have never really written to David Harvey and that I was just poking fun at timmyboy for bragging that he talked to him on Facebook...right??? You couldn't be that slow, could you????? :lol:Ohhh and good Ginn/Oden joke...sooo original!

Having graduated with a minor in English, one of my "pet peeves" concerning the internet is the fact that all too many people completely ignore spelling, grammer, punctuation, etc. I don't beleive that I am being anal retentive or anything, I do beleive that I am making use of the education that I received from the University of Akron. Also this post is not to call ayone names, embarrass anyone, of belittle others, but to make the point it is easier to read well written, properly spelled, gramatically correct posts. you could easily read and understand what i was saying in my post. and as for sgm's comment, shouldnt you be at the OSU board praising the oh so mighty buckeyes? No, I'm actually spending most of my time writing to David Harvey on Facebook...but dangit, he won't respond to me - me and RowdyZip are soooo jealous!
-
Aren't they all technically Spring games?
-
Holy run-on sentence, batman. And DH, if you do read this, all of Zipsnation is behind you. We need ya, buddy. P.S. Answer your facebook. WOW, here we go degrading people for not using proper grammer and having spelling errors on a Fan based message board. Dude, seriously why would you feel the need to degrade people or belittle them for using improper grammer or because of a spelling error? Does it really make you feel that much better about yourself that you can point out someone else's errors and mistakes? If you ask me it makes you look like an a$$hole. All i was doing was writing to inform people a little bit on the Situation. Thats funny that Harvey hasent responded to your Facebook messages, because he has responded to me each time I have written him. Try not to be such an ass when I am just trying to help keep people updated on somthing. Duuuude...you are Facebook friends with David Harvey...and he responds to you!??!?!??! WHOOOAA!

Thanks to all that shot down this lame attempt to hi-jack this thread. I wonder if a warning will be issued to the user for not only bringing up OSU in a non-OSU related thread, but also disrespecting a fellow Zips fan...I mean, apparently that's why I was warned... (I'm not holding my breath )Back to the topic at hand...Gonzaga would be a great matchup. They are a top team, yet very beatable...and definitely a "media darling"...I'm hoping the rumors are true.

Any clue what is wrong with Harvey?!!
sgm405 replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
Like Igor Iveljic?I agree that I'd prefer character to be taken into account...but let's stop acting like we don't have just as many "problem" guys as the other schools mentioned. -
rome hold the record for blocked shots..... that is a defensive stat, that has to be worth somthing. and also look at the big games earlier on in the year and how he played. I think he did a pretty good job against nevada. he also had a great game against Bg at home. Romeo led the MAC in blocks...he wouldn't swat many shots at the next level with the difference in the size of his opponents. I'm sorry...I just don't see it. I hope I'm wrong though, I really do.
-
Ira Newble was once thought to be a defensive specialist. That is why he's in the league. Romeo isn't big enough nor does he play strong enough to play PF in the NBA. He also doesn't have the skills to play SF in the League. I follow the draft pretty closely and never - aside from Zips fans at games and on here - have I ever heard anyone talk about him making it to the NBA...ever. He might get in the NBDL, and could definitely play overseas...but he's simply not good enough and doesn't have that one thing he does great that he would need to be an NBA player.
