Yeah, but he also drew I believe 3 pass interference calls because he kept beating his man. Hixon played very, very well. Is it just me, or does it look like he has gotten faster? He really got off the line and on top of the corners quickly.

I am with you 100% Buckzip. What you and I wrote are reality. Do I like writing things like that about Akron's team? No. Is it a blanket statement and attack on Akron's players? Nope. But I am not going to sit here and talk about how our OL is going to blow holes in OSU's defense because we have a few decent running backs like others have suggested. Their D is going to be one of the top 2 or 3 in the country with amazing talent littered all over the field 2 and 3 deep at EVERY position. We need to realize that we are stepping up here and playing the big boys and not Eastern Michigan. I am sorry if I am not going to be one of those blind homer fans that writes "Akron is going to kick Columbus State's ass" just because I have a degree from UA. Now, if you want to "factually", not "blindly", prove to me that our arguments are wrong about how the 2 teams match up be my guest. I would love to read it. I just don't want to be "nor do other UA fans" want to be insulted because we write what in our eyes is an honest reply.

You are pushing it now for OSU tickets. Call and see. If you have season tickets you can buy OSU tickets. If you have 1 season ticket you can get 1 x OSU ticket. If you have 2 or more season tickets you can be only up to 2 x OSU tickets. Hope that helps. Good luck with the tickets.

Patriot Bowl seats for Season Tix holders
Zipgrad01 replied to doccomet87's topic in Akron Zips Football
I understand that the patriot bowl wants to make money, but do they honestly believe people are going to fork over $45 a ticket to go watch Akron play Army? Most of these people are the same folks that won't drive 30 minutes to watch Akron play for $10. Season ticket holders should have gotten the better seats because most other fans coming to the game will probably buy the lessor priced tickets. Not saying we need to be on the 50, but the 30 would probably do. That still leaves a few sections of lower bowl tickets on each side of the field for sponsors and people from the general public that want really good seats. I am sure that would have been plenty.Now...if the MAC wants to start a "MAC vs BCS Bowl" where they bring in a decent team from the Big Ten, SEC, Pac 10, Big 12, etc... then people would be more willing to fork over the cash. Honestly, who wants to pay $25-45 a seat to watch Army? -
Am I the only one that is thinking this is yet another in a long line of highly touted recruits that never steps foot on the field? It makes me want to..............

He is right that not one player on Akron's roster would make the 2 deep (not the roster, but the 2 deep is what he said). If you think there is...name that player and tell me where he would play. Think about it...our deepest position is probably running back, but not one of our running backs would crack the top 4 or 5 at OSU. Not one. They would be behind Wells, Saine, and possibly the other Wells. Plus, they have a few other running backs that are at least as good as anything we have. Our receiving corp is decimated. Do you think we have one that can break the 2 deep of Robiskie, Small, Lyons, Dukes, Hartline, Washington and Sanzenbacher? Their linebacker corp is by far the best in the country and they have HANDFULL"S of 4 star players that can't break the top 3 on the depth chart. I could go on and on at other positions. They have Robert Rose who is a BEAST 5 star DE that is 2nd string because of Gholston and Wilson at the end positions. Their DB group is sickeningly deep.Typically, Akron may have 1 or 2 players that Ohio State would make a trade for. However, I don't see anyone on this team "yet" where they would do so. I would say they would possibly have taken David Harvey if he were still around, but that is about it.

Is anyone going to the University of Ohio State (UOS for abbreviation) game against U of A? If you are going to say it at least say it right for heavens sake. Especially, if it is your own freaking university.
-
That drives me nuts like no other. I work with a lady and she constantly rips on Akron. She always calls it "AU" and then I correct her. Then she says "whats the difference? It is just extended high school anyway." She says her daughter took classes there when she was a senior in high school and it was "way below her level." I have to laugh because her daughter is a social worker. Not that there is anything wrong with that profession, but I find it funny that the U of A is below social worker standards academically. lol

Wow. After reading that article I get this impression from Pluto...1. Akron is a 2nd rate program and nobody wants to watch them or MAC football unless the only other thing to do is watch re-runs of the A Team.2. They only reason it was a good idea to build this stadium is because it has many "civic" uses.3. He really likes Can't a lot so he had to get their input like it really matters.I could go on, but I am starting to get upset. Damn, after reading that article I am just thinking about getting a refund on my season tickets. I mean....our program isn't even good enough to have it's own stadium. Why should I support it by throwing my time and money away for a worthless cause that in his eyes will always be worthless? Can someone please tell me how drivel like this gets in an Akron newspaper? If that article isn't a kick in the nuts I don't know what is.

Better than talking about Practice. We gonna talk about Practice? - Allen Iverson Seriously though...lolI just got done talking to some Texas people just to clarify my comment. They said some of the better catholics league schools (TAPPS) are equal to top level 3a schools in Texas, so that isn't always a bad thing. They just can't compete with the top shelf 4a and 5a schools.
-
You have to realize that Catholic schools don't play in the post season with public schools in Texas. If you get on any Texas forum they will laugh at you if you talk about the Catholic playoffs because they are a much lower level than a typical Texas public school program. It isn't the same here in Ohio obviously.

Who is AU?

I just checked my mailbox hoping the ticket fairy came and I am in luck!! Section 129 for the Army game and section 35B for the Buckeyes game!! I can't wait.

New stadium: soccer friendly? Expandable?
Zipgrad01 replied to LosAngelesZipFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
How can you call Ohio Stadium's remodeling ugly? That is quite simply one of the most beautiful stadiums in the country bar none. Why do people on here always have to make a dig at OSU? There is no way on earth you can rip on their stadium!! That "ugly retrofit" cost $187 million dollars in 2000-2001. It would probably be close to $200 million today. We could build close to 4 of our stadiums for what their remodeling job cost. I think it is far from Ugly. -
I have often gone to Rivals and pulled up our old classes. The thing that sucks is it is always our highest rated recruits that fail us. These guys obviously don't end up at the bigger schools for a reason and we always seem to get burned by them. I hope this changes because just about every (actually, it may be all) 3 star we have ever gotten is already gone. I just hope the 2007 class doesn't follow suit as a whole. Vince Hill is the first 3 star to wave goodbye before ever stepping on the field.
-
Mark Jackson ended up signing with Illinois. Rivals "upgraded" him to a 4 star player last year as well.
-
I can not believe he backed out of his commitment to Akron once again. Good riddance to this kid. It seemed like we were his fall back choice anyway. Since he came up short on his SAT score and can't qualify he is headed to Milford Academy for a year. He has "opened up his recruitment" once again and Akron no longer is an option it seems. Good luck and good riddance.

I know the gates open at 9am for the air show. All I care about is watching the Thunderbirds. They usually perform around 2:30-30pm. My cousin was actually a Thunderbird officer the last 3 years, so this will be the first time I watch them without him being a team member. He is still getting me center show VIP tickets though. Nice to know people!!I will probably leave the air show after they perform and drink quite a few beers at Great Lakes while watching some football games on tv before I head to Cleveland Browns Stadium. May have to at least tailgate for an hour though.

The guy at the Akron ticket office told me I have until August 17th to decide if I want to buy the 2 OSU tickets I am eligible for. Does that sound right to you?I held off on the OSU tickets because he said they will be either endzone corner 2nd or 3rd deck. I want to see if my so called "connections" can get me anything better for the same price. More than likely I will buy my 2 just to be safe.
-
Well, after looking at the price of the Army tickets I took some of your advice and bought season tickets for the first time. Thanks for the advice by the way.Buying them this year came with 2 other huge pluses. 1. I am guaranteed Akron vs OSU tickets at face value2. I am now in line to get good season tickets at the new stadium. Go Zips!! Can September 1st get here soon enough?

RACER.....if you look at the future schedule Kentucky (SEC SCHOOL) is scheduled to play at Akron in 2009. Then in 2010 Syracuse (Big East) is scheduled to play at Akron. Sure, Indiana canceled, but can you really expect them to come play in the Rubber Bowl? I think if we had our new stadium this year Indiana is our home opener and that would have been the best day in UA football history.Enguin....as for your comment about "bad" SEC schools.......do you honestly think in a million years that beating you looks better for us and our program than beating a so-called bad SEC school such as Kentucky? FYI....Rivals has Kentucky rated as the #38 team in the country this year. Where is YSU ranked because I seemed to miss them? Oh yeah...you guys are picked 3rd in the Gateway conference!!! YSU was a thing of the past for us. We have moved on to bigger and better and unless people on this board realize that we will always be lumped in with the YSU's of the world. You also wanted to know why Can't scheduled you because there had to be a reason. Who knows why? I am not really concerned with how Can't is trying to grow their program. If I am trying to grow my program my best benchmark for success wouldn't be Can't. Look at the Boise States and Fresno's of the world. They schedule up, not down.
-
Yeah, I am sure the Bucks would be urinating down their leg if they scheduled Can't and Akron in the same basketball season. Be serious. They WAXED Can't 81-59. They could have beaten them worse, but chose not to. Give me one good reason why they would remotely consider Can't or Akron a serious challenge?
-
Hopefully that team is NOT Youngstown State!!! No name team has been willing to come play us (partially because of our horrible facilities). Now that we are getting a new stadium we are starting to get teams from the Big East, Big Ten and SEC to come play us at home. Why on earth would we want to drop down and play a D-1AA team? The games against Kentucky, Indiana, etc... are guaranteed sellouts. YSU probably would be as well, but we get zero national exposure playing YSU. Also, when you are trying to impress recruits visiting what will do a better job....akron vs YSU or Akron vs Kentucky!! It is a no brainer.
-
I think the game will sell better than a lot of people realize. I haven't heard it mentioned yet, but the game is Saturday night at 7pm. The Cleveland Air Show is all weekend long and it will be ending for the day on Saturday a little before game time. There will be hundreds of thousands of people in downtown Cleveland for the air show, so I am sure a lot of people will attend the game with all the military ties that are involved with the air show. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it feels like an Army home game. How sad would that be?

What is Florida? Um...way better than Akron. I know that is not what you intended, but seriously...what a stupid response.
