  1. How on earth can this trade come back to bite the Browns? The fans hate him, so they can't ever use him again. The whole team stinks. They need a new coach. If Frye happened by chance to qb the Seahawks against the Browns in the super bowl I think both franchises would be quite happy with what they got.
  2. Here are the comments from the Seattle paper about the Frye trade. Seems everyone else except Browns fans realize Frye was a product of the horrible Cleveland system. They seem to be very happy with the move.Comments: Report: Seahawks acquire QB Charlie FryeHe's a 3rd year QB with alot of potential, how in world did they get him for a 6th. round draft choice? I realize he hasn't had very good instruction there or a great team around him but really? OH, and good luck to Bryce Fisher and god bless. I Hope he has many more healthy years, and thank goodness they didn't trade him within our division...lolPosted by Scott (Marysville) at 10:26 AM, Sep 11, 2007I like these moves! Good luck to Bryce Fisher, he was the man when we needed him to be. as for the team just another possitive move to get younger, relizing they have to make moves like this too sustain this level of play year after year with out any drop off, if not just get better now. and Charlie Frye will be a great addition, he will benifit under Holmgren PLUS he never really had the chance to back up especially behind a good QB like Matt. plus didn't give much and he's still just 25 yrs. old and this might be the guy good enough to free up Senica Wallace to play the X-Factor in a few games.Posted by Scott (Marysville) at 10:36 AM, Sep 11, 2007Alright now that they have a capable back-up QB will Holmgren finally put his best athlete on the field at WR and take advantage of his talent? I know he hinted to it, please don't tease us Mike!Posted by Adam (Portland) at 10:45 AM, Sep 11, 2007Overall, good moves by Ruskell...Frye has more experience than most #3 QBs in the league and he'll get a chance to work in Holmgren's system in a real football team. His 64.3 completion percentage from last year is also encouraging. Especially wince the WCO is all about making quick, accurate passes. Not sure in the end if he will be Hasselbeck's replacement down the line in a few years, but he'll make a formidable backup. It also frees up Wallace for WR now.I liked Fisher a lot, but Tapp has obviously played to the level where he is better than him now. We had a backlog of DEs with Babin, Atkins, and Fisher (not to mention Wyms who can also line up at DE).So basically, we unloaded some salary with Fisher where we were backlogged. Acquired that #3 QB we've needed. And moved up in the 6th round with the pick that is coming back to us from Tennessee. Not bad...Also just wanted to say good work with the blog Danny. I was a longtime reader of Sando's when he was running Seahawks Insider over at TNT, but that place isn't the same without him. So I'm giving your blog a try this season. Good stuff so far...Posted by Andrew at 11:12 AM, Sep 11, 2007I don't necessarily like seeing Bryce go... I like bringing in Frye, as we really needed a competent backup for Hasselbeck that allows us to be creative with Seneca if we want to be.But nonetheless I would rather have the smarts of Fisher backing up Tapp as opposed to Babin. I think Tapp will need to be rotated in a lot to maintain his effectiveness and Bryce is good versus the run, can provide a little pressure when rested and is versatile.Oh well, I guess I just have to trust 'em on this one...Posted by Colin at 11:17 AM, Sep 11, 2007I dunno about this. I really liked the idea of rotating our DEs to keep everyone fresh/injury free. I think Frye is a hell of a #3 QB though. He may not have looked great in the past but its hard to tell how good a QB is when he has no O-line. I doubt this will free up Seneca for WR though. Frye's still got to learn our system and whatnot and I think that for at least a month or two Holmgren wouldn't feel comfortable with Frye should Matthew go down (knock on wood).
  3. Good for Charlie. I hope he gets a chance to prove himself in Seattle. Anything is better than being the scapegoat in Cleveland like the other 15 qb's we have had since this franchise has returned. The idiots in the stands were blaming Frye for the td's Pittsburgh was scoring in the 2nd half. I kid you not. They hate the guy more than any player I have ever seen, so let him go somewhere else. I used to love the Browns, but their moron fans are starting to make me root against them. They will turn on Quinn in 8 weeks if he isn't Dan Marino.
  4. The concussion is possible I guess. Didn't he get sacked on his last series before he even made it back to his 3 step drop? Thats why in Cleveland I call it the "3 step and get dropped".
  5. I would love to see Frye get cut so he can end up in Atlanta, Miami, or somewhere decent that he can compete for a job. History has shown that Cleveland is the city that kills a qb's career.I find it disgraceful that he was yanked after 3 series of the 1st game. What kind of joke is that? Crennel is in over his head and he needs to be the next one on the chopping block. I hope Quinn gets thrown in and gets the same treatment as everyone else. Browns fans will be booing him by week 8.
  6. I can probably answer for Buckzip. Akron is still considered a "last resort" option by many of the local players. The University is not known as an academic or football power. The local support is dismal. Players want to play Big Ten ball for the most part. If they only have MAC offers we have a chance, but RARELY and I mean rarely does a local kid with offers from other schools stay in Akron. Akron isn't exactly a place you want to stay in as compared to other areas.
  7. They are actually starting to build a nice team over there in Bloomington. Their upcoming stadium renovation will do nothing but help. If Akron's D plays like they did Saturday and the offense has more than 5 plays we have a very good shot at winning this game.
  8. We ran the same 5 plays over and over and over again. We constantly ran screen passes because JD was scared to death of OSU's front 7. Just ask him and he will tell you. He pissed down his leg on the play calling and that is why Akron's offense didn't produce. If our offense even had a little creativity the game would have been a dogfight considering the 5 turnovers. We had great field position all through the game and did nothing but throw sideways.
  9. We didn't even sell out our ticket allotment for the OSU game and you guys are crying because people are wearing OSU clothes at the local bars. Grow up and get over it already. Most people are OSU fans and I hate to tell you they aren't A-hole front running losers like you guys keep saying. This stupid crying keeps coming up over and over again. We can't even sell out a ticket allotment for the game or bring 20k people to a home game and you wonder why the bars are 90% OSU. You do realize they were a power before most of your parents were born? Why would people just all of the sudden become Akron fans? You think they should because they "live" in Akron? Please. OSU alumni base is hundreds the size of Akron's. You just can't even compare the two.
  10. According to Rivals.com, they posted on the OSU forum that a limited number of tickets will be available Saturday for the OSU-Akron game. Akron returned a portion of their alloted tickets because they went unsold.Absolutely pathetic. Not enough people care to watch this team even when they are playing the Buckeyes.
  11. Yes, but Adams has never wanted to go to Akron from his comments on all the recruiting interviews. All he talked about was "wanting more and bigger offers" when Akron was one of his few choices. This kid wants to play at a bigger school. He may switch from MSU (which I doubt), but it will be to an equally sized university if he does.Paul S. de-committed after they got rid of John L Smith at MSU. Dantonio isn't going anywhere any time soon.
  12. Looks like Johnny Adams committed to Michigan State today. I never thought we had a chance with him anyway.
  13. I think you need to re-evaluate Central Florida since they got out of the MAC. They have gotten big enough that they opened with a victory over NC State, then turn around next weekend and host the Texas Longhorns in their brand new 45,000 seat stadium. And actually, they won their division of C-USA in 2005. PLUS, C-USA is stronger than the MAC by anyone's standards except many MAC fans. What MAC school do you think has a chance to HOST the Texas Longhorns? Hmm?
  14. I honestly doubt the OSU representative from scout.com would come on here and write such a stupid post. Nice flame attempt though...
  15. Nice. lolThat is so funny am I having a hard time responding.
  16. It would be 100% from a pro-Akron perspective. Not sure how they would word it, but I am sure it would be some clever comment like "Akron Zips past OSU". I know that is stupid, but you get the idea of what I mean.
  17. Yeah, but the question also says we can go 2-10.
  18. That is because Central Florida is expected to play with or beat NC State. It really wasn't a big deal for them or their program. That isn't necessarily true that a 5-6 or even 8-4 MAC school doesn't beat OSU. Right now....a 12-0 MAC school doesn't beat OSU, so a 7-5 team is just as capable of doing the job as any MAC team. Beating OSU doesn't guarantee or deny success. Saying that, I will take the guaranteed success of winning the MAC title. Beating OSU would be a HUGE notch on the belt of the program, but it seriously loses it's luster if the win doesn't go along with a MAC title. If this team beats OSU and doesn't win a MAC title it means it has underachieved for the remainder of the year. Once the underachieving starts (which means we have multiple losses to teams like Can't, Buffalo, Temple, Miami (oh), etc...) the media attention goes away. We would be the one game wonder. MAC titles endure better recruiting, selling championship t-shirts, hats, etc... Plus, we would get to hang that neat banner somewhere. Are we going to sell "We beat OSU and then lost to Can't" shirts?
  19. Zippy looks like a big and happy stuffed animal. Kids love it and women think it is adorable. Brutus looks like a skinny guy with a huge and weird shaped head. Most kids don't even know what he is. lol
  20. They remember us winning the MAC. They also remember us tanking last year with probably the most talented team Akron has put on the field possibly ever. We need to win titles every year, not a big game and then fall down to a 2nd or 3rd choice bowl for a MAC school. If you don't follow up a huge win with success it earns the term "fluke".
  21. g-mann, for once you took the words right out of my mouth. If we beat OSU the wave of public appeal will only last for a few weeks. If we tank the season the OSU game is quickly forgotten as a fluke. However, if we win the MAC title we get a year of publicity, plus another shot at a decent team (possibly a Big Ten team) in the Motor City Bowl. I would take the year long pub like Miami (Oh) got a few years ago when they only lost one game (to Iowa I believe). That would help the program more. They gave Iowa a tussle, so they got respect from that. People could say "they can't play with the big boys" because they did.
  22. I love how you pick at everything I say. You want to pick so badly that your criticism is invalid. I can in fact read what he said and my answer states that. I said and I quote "Right now we need to win MAC titles." Read my answer again and you will see that I fully understood the question and answered it. What don't you understand about "I would rather win the MAC?"1. You can't replace the value of playing in the Shoe. You are correct that I said that. However, we don't have to beat OSU to earn respect. If we give them a hell of a tussle people will take notice.2. Beating OSU does not get us in a bowl game or assure us of winning another game.3. You can't assume us beating OSU means we have a successful season. Remember NC State? We beat them and then tanked.4. BG beat Minnesota, Can't beat ISU, etc...MAC teams have won some games against bigger opponents already this year, so they will be in the running for those "2nd and 3rd" bowl games as well. If we get beat by BG or Can't, etc...we aren't going bowling.5. We shouldn't be happy going 6-5 and getting the International Bowl. We want to win ALL our conference games and win a MAC title so we can "hopefully" play another Big Ten team in the Motor City Bowl. If we play OSU tough, beat Indiana, win a MAC title and then beat another Big Ten team in a bowl game it would do far more for our program that beating OSU and going 6-5 while playing South Florida in the International Bowl.
