Has anyone taken the time to look at the new stadium being built at UCF? They are also building a new convocation arena right beside the football stadium. Basically, they are building a new athletics village. The football stadium is 45,000 seats and it is costing $55 million. I attached a web address if you guys want to check it out. I would take it in a heartbeat.http://ucfathletics.cstv.com/facilities/ucf-brighthouse.html

Yeah, I am sure they are all die hard Gator supporters. Some people on this site are ridiculous. They think getting their digs in on big bad OSU it will somehow improve Akron and the perception of the universities athletics programs. You want to know how to improve Akron? Win and win on a consistent basis. Until then nobody will ever respect the program statewide or nationally and nobody will ever give a seconds thought to anything but Ohio State. Why? Because Ohio State does win. I have said it before, it is like the jealous little brother. He can't beat big brother at anything, so he hates on him instead of improving himself. I get so embarrassed at times because all of my family are OSU fans. I get them to go to an Akron game or look up Zips info on the web and then they get po'ed because Zips fans are calling out Buckeye fans. I can tell none of you are salesmen. It would be like me trying to gain business, so I think it will help me by ripping on the biggest and best competitor in my area because I think it will make people notice me. Usually, all it does is chase people away. Try to not be negative and let the university sell itself. There is no need to rip on other universities (except MAC schools of course), in order to make ours look better. It just makes us look childish and inadequate.

You Buckeye bashers crack me up. Can you say little mans syndrome? I can!!

If anyone is home or has tivo....ESPNU is showing the Akron vs NC State game at 11am today. I already hit record on the DVR.

Not sure if you told anyone this a few months ago, but he just "officially" made the announcement within the last few days. Also, I still don't know if we even offered him.
-
Not sure if we ever offered him, but I remember his dad being very high on the program around spring ball time. I see he just committed to Syracuse this past weekend. Good for him and best of luck. His dad seemed to be a really nice guy.

Update from The Great White North
Zipgrad01 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Don't fret about team USA losing to Canada in football. It happens all the time. They put together their best team. We put together............? I don't know of one player that ever played in the tournament. lol -
The video you are referring to is from 3/28. The article I pasted is from 4/18. I agree with you. I hope the staff doesn't back off him because other schools are recruiting him. I just don't want people getting their hopes up on a kid that doesn't even list them as an option even though they are one of only 3 schools to extend him offers. It seems like it is your typical scenario. Akron is the first to offer the kid and he is excited until the big dogs come calling. Then he forgets all about the "smaller schools." Maybe we get lucky and some of these bigger schools jerk him around a little and Akron stays loyal to him as a primary need. It is still early, so who knows?

Sorry to burst your bubbles, but things do not look good with Adams. Akron is among 3 schools that have offered him, yet he does not even mention them as a school of interest. Now that the big boys have come calling you can basically cross Adams off your wish list.Akron Buchtel defensive back Johnny Adams will be one of the many recruits in attendance on Saturday for the Buckeyes' spring game. Adams likes Jim Tressel's program."I'm going to Ohio State's spring game," Adams said. "I'm going to be taking a tape down to give to coach (Jim) Bollman."Former Buckeye assistant Tim Beckman had been recruiting Adams, but when Beckman left for Oklahoma State, Bollman took over.Adams has visited several schools including Ohio State."I went to Notre Dame's junior day," he said. "And I visited Ohio State for a junior day. I went to a Pitt (spring) practice."While Adams said he does not have a favorite, he is impressed with Ohio State and the Buckeyes' football program."I like what coach (Jim) Tressel has been doing," Adams said. "They've won a national championship. They send a lot of kids to the NFL. And I like the city."Adams has scholarship offers from Syracuse, West Virginia and Akron."I'm interested in Ohio State, Michigan, West Virginia, Syracuse, Pitt, Iowa and Illinois," Adams said. The 5-foot-11 and 157-pound Adams has played cornerback, safety and wide receiver, and returns punts and kickoffs. He intercepted six passes during his junior season."I want to play cornerback in college," Adams said.

What athletes are we recruiting that OSU is? Also, you think ripping apart OSU will make people acknowledge Akron? Sorry, but all it does is cause resentment towards the university and our fans. Think about it.....what happens when OU or Can't fans rip on Akron? You resent the university and their fans because it makes them look like a bunch of crybabies. If you want people to recognize Akron, just be a good fan, be a good role model for the university and stop ripping on the schools that have already made it to where we want ours to be. It just looks bad and frankly it is embarrassing. The only way Akron will ever be noticed is to win consistently, improve facilities to make it look like a more "big time" university and did I mention win consistently? Add all those components and Akron will do just fine and start gaining more recognition.
-
Good point. They need to evaluate them "when the bullets are flying" so to speak. I am sure the red jerseys will come out when the staff feels they have a leader.
-
Oh yeah...and those of you cheering because OSU lost is plain childish. Aren't you adults on here? If you are a Florida fan I can see, but actively cheering against Ohio's own to be spiteful is just nonsense. You act like OSU winning hurts UA in some way. Hate to break it to you, but it doesn't. We don't recruit the same athletes.

What was wrong with Tirico's comments? As much as you don't like to admit it, it is the true. From corner to corner OSU is the native university in the state of Ohio. Just get over it already and stop being jealous. Tirico was in no way trying to offend Akron, BG, OU Cincy or anyone else. It gets old reading ranting posts every time OSU is mentioned. It is like the jealous brother that is upset because he isn't as good at sports and isn't as popular as his brother. As much as LeBron loves Akron, and he does.....there is no way he would have come to school here. He has even stated as much.
-
I am extremely shocked at some of these comments. Williams and Brinson have never even stepped on a D-1 college football field and people on here are already saying we should replace a 1,000 yard rusher (if he wasn't hurt). Plus, Kennedy will only be a junior. That doesn't make much sense to me. Lets see how these guys pan out before they get anointed as a starter and better than Kennedy. High school or JUCO star doesn't always translate into D-1 success.

Are you talking about Jake Stoneburner? If so...that kid is going to be a Rivals top250 player. He ALREADY has offers from Ohio State, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Penn State and West Virginia. As much as I would like to see it happen I think it is pretty safe to say that it won't.
-
You are right Timmyboy. I watch MULTIPLE times as Marshall fist pumped and cheered for the Flushes. I have no clue why he did? Maybe he made a "friendly" little cash bet with LeBron? lol

http://sports.yahoo.com/Nice little article and free exposure.
-
It's official now. Rivals is showing that Reed has signed his LOI for the Zips.
-
Very true. The Big East may give him more exposure and a BCS bowl, but Cincy doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of ever winning the conference. Hell, they will be lucky to get bowl eligible. I think he made a big mistake on this one.Oh well, maybe he will have fun watching Akron play next bowl season.

If we couldn't get Chris Wells...
Zipgrad01 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Well, USC fans now have heard he is going to SC. It isn't confirmed, so we shall see. -
This is a relly nice pick up for the Zips. His clips on rivals look very impressive. Plus, we know the talent that comes out of Penn Hills year in and year out. Hopefully, we can get one or 2 more really good ones before the day finishes.

We need to forget about the guy and hope for some other good recruits because he has about a .0000000000000001% chance of coming to Akron. Everybody on here got all excited about Wells and I was chuckling about that as well. Someone is just starting a rumor to pull your chains. He is more than likely going to be a Hokie. -

No, it's called being realistic. I would love to see it happen, but who in their right mind is coming to Akron when they have offers from USC, Miami, VT, Penn State, Florida, etc... The guy would get laughed at.If I am so loser minded name a top 250 player that has EVER considered Akron. We are talking USC, etc...that we are competing against. Why would he want to come play in a rotting rubber bowl with 7,000 fans watching?I love the direction the program is going, but we will get better prospects slowly. We aren't going from 2nd & 3rd team all state players to All-Americans in one year. We will continue to get a few more top players every year, but McCoy is a little out of our league at this time. Maybe not in 4 or 5 years, but he is right now.If I am wrong, I will GLADLY eat crow, but somehow you guys have to see my point. -

In other words, he isn't coming here. No need to get excited about it because it isn't happening. Sorry to be blunt, but maybe there is someone decent out there that we actually have a chance of signing. -

I would love for that to be true, but lets not get a little crazy. This guy was the pre-season #1 rb in the country before being injured. Also, his coach said last night he is down to Virginia Tech, Miami (Fl), USC and PSU.Penn State did get a 4 star rb commit last night. That really helps, but I honestly doubt he would even remotely consider Akron. I will keep my fingers crossed, but I will also be realistic.
