I agree! Getsy was awful! So was the line play on both sides of the ball. We won the line of scrimmage battle in the first quarter and they dominated it in the last three quarters. This was a tale of two halves. Did JD get out coached tonight?", are we worse than them?, or did we just lay down and die after the first quarter? My next question is does Northern Illinios suck And is Both Eastern and Central Michigan better than Northern? If so, were going to have a tough time against everyone in our division. I pray to God that this was nothing more than a stupid let down from the last game. Tonight there was no offense for three quarters and not much defense for about a half. The way we played tonight, lowly Buffalo should give us a good game next week. First the Indians and now the Zips! Totally a lost weekend here in Northeast Ohio. I think I am getting nauseous!

Predict Akron vs. Central Michigan score!!
Kangaroo Craig replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
Zips win by 21. Less than 15,000 at the bowl. -
Akron when they were 1AA did they get respect?

Nothing would please me more than to somehow beat them in 07'. Every year they schedule a MAC school. Eventually the law of averages says that they are going to lose one of those. I hope it is us. I am sitting here imagining how shell shocked they will be when a MAC school finally knocks them off. The looks on their pitiful faces and the news media response will be priceless. -

I have been asking that same question for years. Why is it ok to attend a D1A school in Ohio, but still be a Suckeye fan. I think the media in northeast Ohio has helped fuel that cause. Lets look at it this way: How many Michigan grads root for Michigan State because they live in Michigan. What about Florida and Miami grads. Do they support FSU? I wonder if Purdue and Notre Dame grads root for Indiana. Do you think anyone form USC, UCLA, or Stanford roots for Cal. In my opinion, suckeye fans are front runners. They choose the Suckeyes only because the MAC school that they went to is not in the BCS. Tottally ridiculous! -
Did anyone watch Miami play Cinci last night?
Kangaroo Craig replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
They did look good. Part of the reason for the lopsided score is because the Bearcats committed a lot of turnovers. I shut it off early in the fourth quarter. I think at that point they already had four or five. Take away the turnovers and Miami still wins, but its a close one. Remember the Middle Tennessee game. We would have blown them out if not for many costly turnovers. If we limit our mistakes against CMU, we should be able to handle them fairly easy. Who knows, sometimes strange things happen in college in sports. Hopefully not on Saturday at the RB. -
I guess it doesn't matter who we beat....

That's o.k. It's easier being the underdog then it is being the favorite. Las Vegas sees it different though. I think the latest line has us favored by 11. -
Our defense got very tired in the fourth quarter. Much of this had to do with the fact that our offense was scoring on big plays and that forced our defense back onto the field with very little rest. There is little depth on defense, especially at the linebacker position. As a result, there are not enough players to come in and give our guys a breather every now and then. Am am very pleased with our quick strike ability on offense, but I would also like to see a more balanced attack that takes time off the clock while still putting points up on the board. Don't get me wrong, the running game was good Saturday, but we scored fast. Had we been able to grind it out, I think our defense would have been able to shut them down in the fourth just as they did in the first three.

We just beat NIU. Miami has already lost at home to a bad CMU team, and BG's defense couldn't stop St V's junior varsity. Buffalo...Can't...OU...? All W's. The question is more like "Are the Zips the favorite to win the MAC East?" I totally agree! No one on the national level will take notice until we beat Miami and BG. We have two ESPN games at the end of the year. Is it realistic to think that maybe Corso, Herbstreit and gang do a show from the RB? Remember last year when they covered the Miami/ BG game? Go Zips!

Here at Akron, you would probably have to win at least two or maybe even three MAC championships before anyone really takes notice. I would have to think he stays here at least 4 to 5 more years. With all of the success that Boise State has had, I thinik they still have the coach that got it going for them. On the flip side, BG, Miami, and Toledo have had a lot of turnover at the coaching position. Hasn't really hurt them though. I'm just happy that we have to have these sorts of discussions. We've never won poo in the MAC. Our time is way over due! Go Zips!

I agree. They definitely showed up. Does anyone kinow why all of the seats behind the goal post were draped off? What happens if 30,000 show up? Will they open up those seats at the last minute, or turn fans away? Of course that would be a very good problem.

Two Zips in the Hurricane Katrina Benefit game last night. Gotta love that. After about half way throught the first quarter I switched to the Tribe game. How did Dwight Smith play last night? The radio this morning said that the Saints had a lot of turnovers so I am guessing it was thei offense and special teams that did them in.

Four more days and they'll shut up!

Large picture and title print for the Suckeyes on page one of the Columbus Reakin Urinal. You have to go all the way to the bottom of page C11 to find a short article on the Zips. This paper is a total joke! They've sold out to the Suckeyes just like like the other OSU fans who do not have a legitimate reason for rooting for OSU. "I went to Akron, but I live in Ohio so that legitimizes my reason to be a Suckeye fan" Gee, I wonder if Michigan State fans use that same reasoning to root for Michigan?

Either at halftime or before the Zips game against Purdue, Steve French had an interview with Mike Thomas. I was hoping to hear something new, but Mike just reiterated that the study for the new football stadium is ongoing. He would not give any specifics as to when an announcement might come, but he was hopeful that it would be soon.
-
The thing that gets me, is his tone. When Hixon fumbled the kick, from Steve's tone, I thought he lost the ball and Purdue was dancing in the endzone before Steve could tell us that Hixon recovered it. He has that "here we go again" sound in his voice everytime something goes bad. Maybe it's from announcing so many bad Zips football games. Whatever it is, it's annoying. Although, I have heard a lot worse. Still, might be time for a change. I couldn't agree with you more Dr. Z. He has had that tone for as many years as I can remember. Althought I do like his level of excitement when we do something good, either that "here we go again" tone needs to go away or he does.

I totally agree. Charlie Frye playing for the Browns is the greatest football recruiting marketing campaign UA has ever had. As he continues his rise in the NFL, not only will the local kids take notice, but so will anyone across the country who happens to tune into a Browns game be it on NFL Sunday ticket or a nationally televised contest. I've got to think that Jason Taylor has also helped, but a local hero such as Frye can lure potential Suckeye recruits to Akron.

Thanks for the advice Zff. I called the ticket office this morning. They explained to me that the reason why I haver not received my tickets is because I purchased the "Tailgate Plus" package. The ticket office said that it took them a while to figure out if they would print the tailgate plus right on the tickets or offer a separtate pass. They decided on the separate pass. As a result, I was told that the delay in the pass design means that the "Tailgate Plus" folks will not receive there tickets until sometime next week.
-
I have not received my tickets either. As far as the JT Bobblehead, I was instructed by the ticket office in May, when I ordered my tickets, to come down there and pick it up, which I did. Captain, do you know if I can still get in tonight even though my tickets still have not arrived? Thanks, Kangaroo Craig

Matt Cherry was released by the Bengals today.

Here's some more names for Doug Johnson to consider: Chad Pennington (Marshall), Daunte Culpepper (Central Florida), Byron Leftwich (Marshall). He'll become much more respectful of Charlie Frye when he loses his job to him. That's going to happen after Saturday's game against the Giants when Charlie lights it up in the second or third quarter.

I am sure that you all noticed that the Basketball times list for 2006 - 7 shows that Can't loses Cutley, arguably their best player, and Demetrius Johnson. Could this be the end of their run and the begining of ours? I sure hope so!

Both ClevelandBrowns.com and GoZips.com have reported that superman has signed his contract and will be in camp today. GoZips.com is reporting that the deal is $5M for four years. Here is the link: http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news_room/n...rts/4410.0.html

I would like to see the university get a deal with WTAM 1100. That station is probably the largest in the midwest. If greater numbers of people have an opportunity to hear you, then I've got to believe that can only help recruiting and increase your fan base.

Awesome! I'm waiting for the third replica orange one. That one, along with the white home jersey should be available soon.

The Zips will go 6-5, Buffalo will go 2-9 or 3-8, Can't will go 5-6 or 6-5. Otherwise the rest of the predictions are pretty good for the East. In the west they have Western Michigan, a horiible team last year, near the top of the division. That's also a surprise and I don't agree with it.
