This poll was done by a bunch of morons. Rodgers, Cutler, Leinart, and Young have not played enough to even warrant a rating and Frye has played a total of 11 games behind what is arguably the worst offensive line in the league. Rothlesberger has shown some success, but I think it is more because he is part of a great team then it is just his raw talent. I'll bet if you asked a bunch of NFL head coaches and GMs this same question you would get a much different response.

I was listening to the Browns pregame show on WTAM yesterday and there was a guy who graduated from Can't that was interviewing Terry Pluto about his take on the Browns. At the end of the interview he told Terry that he was shocked by the recent success of the Can't football team. Terry then preceded to talk for a minute or so about the success of both Akron and Can't (he started with Akron) and said that next Saturday's game is going to be the best college football game in the state of Ohio that day and that everyone listening should try to make it out to Can't. Thanks to Terry for the free publicity!

On any other Saturday my vote would go to Harvey, but that Joe Pa thinig is just hillarious. I wonder if the water is tainted in Columbus.

The NFL does not allow umbrellas at their games. At Cleveland Browns stadium the choice is a hooded jacket, a poncho, or nothing.

If you look at the stats of the last two games that Can't won, they did it by forcing a lot of turnovers. Yesterday BG had six and I believe Can't had none. That was the difference. That game was a lot closer than the score indicated. Against Miami they were dominated statistically, but they beat the Redhawks by forcing a lot of turnovers. Miami still almost overcame it though. Similar to our game against Central. If the Zips hold on to the ball, they win. Can't is not on the same talent level as Akron, but they are improved. I'm impressed by them. They are a program on the rise. The ball did bounce their way against Miami and BG. Although they are getting better, they did get clobbered by a middle of the pack Big Ten team and lost a very close game to an Army team that isn't very good.

I disagree. Attendance in the late 70's/early 80's was much better than the past 15 years. The bowl was filled with 30-40k people for the annual "Acme-Zip" game to start the season. I think we need to have at least the same size as the Rubber Bowl to start and be expandable to some larger size, whatever that may be based on future goals/conference requirements/etc.That's because back in the 70' and 80's there were very few choices on TV. There was usually a big ten game or Notre Dame, USC, etc. on during the day and that was it. The Acme Zip game was always played at night. Fair weather fans did not have ESPN, FSN, or some other network to watch games on a Saturday night. I love those networks, but they are competing with our entertainment dollar. As far as capacity. The Rubber Bowl I think, seats about 31,000. I voted for a 35K capacity, but I would want a facility that is expandable up to 50K. That way at least, the flexibility is already built into the design. Like I said yesterday, The JAR was a mistake from the begining because it was built too small or without room to expand later (Pretty hard to do with an arena). Probably because the school didn't want to spend just a few dollars more and do it right the first time. I'm not saying we need it to be 50K, just make sure that the design allows for that sort of expansion. If the design limits the expansion up to only 30K, then it is piss poor planning with no long term vision.

First of all, the "kid" is not an idiot...he's actually a really good friend of mine. Second, he was simply noting that with the way things are set up, that there was only one road to leave on from that huge area and was discussing the problems that created. He then mentioned that this problem was made even worse when the weather was bad. I really don't see anything that is inaccurate about those remarks, do you?I can vouch for him too. He is a high quality individual. I can say that because we are fraternity brothers. Although I graduated during the 1980's, I did meet him at a founders day event back in May. He is highly regarded among his brothers. Good, smart kid!

Here is the link the the Beacon Story regarding the new stadium. The conceptual design is the same one that we saw last year."The new drawings would enhance the conceptual design that HNTB did for UA last year at a cost of $100,000."http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/15570977.htm"The stadium would include 25,000 seats, expandable to 30,000 by adding seats on the end zones, and 20 loges, expandable to 30." This sounds like it is going to be the same mistake all over again with the JAR arena. They are going to build something without considering any long term vision. IF UA is ever going to consider a move to a higher conference, a stadium that is expandable only to 30K is not acceptable. It really wouldn't cost much more to design it so that it could be expandable to say 40 or even 50K. Memo ot UA -- Do it right. Don't waste your money on something that you will not want in 20 years. HAVE SOME LONG TERM VISION.

Enough with the BJ and Suckeye rants. I don't like them either. I would rather talk about the original point of this post which is discussion about a new footbal stadium. HNTB is definitely a player when it comes to sports archtecture. I was looking at a few of their works. I really like the stadium that they designed for the other OSU in Corvallis, OR. Reser looks real nice. I'm guessing that that one is unfortunately probably much bigger than the one that UA will build. I hope that ours seats at least 40,000, but I am predicting 30K because Akron won't spend the extra money to do it right the first time (See JAR Arena). It will still be very nice and much better than the Rubber Bowl. I am excited to read the Beacon tommorrow. I hope they can write a good story with plenty of artist's renderings of the design.

Go watch the game at Can't. Their fans have shown, to some extent, that they will return the favor every other year when the game is at Akron. There would have been more of their fans, and ours last year if our athletic department would have scheduled that game at the beginning of the season instead of Thanksgiving. I was there, but I am a die hard like everyone else on this board. We do not represent the average fan. Winining is starting to change that though and that's a good thing.

Until now I had a high opinion of Brian Kelly. Joe Tresey? Are you kidding me? Defense was the number one concern during the Lee Owens days. It looks now like CMU is only going to have a chance to win if it is a scorefest. Reminds me of the pre JD days at UA. I wonder if the betting line just increased in favor of the Zips?

I first heard about this guy last year. He is the top defensive player in the MAC and could be a first round draft pick. At the very least he will be taken on the first day. He'll be tough to contain. So far we've had two games against two very good defensive teams. This will also be a test for our offense. Overall I think our D is a little better than their's though. Look for another low scoring game. I expect the Zips to control the time of possesion just as they did in the first two games. It is important to limit turnovers and penalties. We need to start off 1-0 in the MAC. Another win would also help attendance on the 23rd.

I thought I heard Frenchy, Stamms or one of the TV announcers mention during one of the two games that Stec is not standing back far enough and that is giving the defense an opportunity to block his kick. If so, I didn't notice, but then again, I'm 44 and my eyesight isn't what it used to be. It does seem that a lot of his problems are a result of pressure from the opposing rushers. Also, as mentioned here, he has had some trouble handling the snap. As far as Domonkos, I hope it is just early career jitters. He is very capable. He just needs to get it straight between the ears.

Defense and clock control rules again. 17-10 Zips.

Thank you. Lions fans and their team have a lot of class. I really do not like Notre Dame. I was pulling hard for you guys. Your early mistakes were just too much to overcome. ND has a great team this year. About the only school that will give them a game is SC because it is being played in Los Angeles. Good luck in the Big Ten.

As of 3:55 ET, Kennedy has 14% of the vote. He trails Lauranitis (OSU) 49% and Johnson (Boise St.) 22%. We need to get the vote out!

Akron 30, NC 27 in OT. They score first in OT with a field goal. We answer with a TD to win.

Where's Antonio Gates? I'll bet he's real proud of that joke of a division 1A team just up the road from us. We could beat the flushes with our redshirt freshman team. The top five teams on that list, with the exception of maybe Temple, are all better than Can't.
-
I just fear that it won't be this year because of the wacky schedule with the majority of the marque games being played in cooler weather. Do we go on probation next year if we do not make the 15K average? And if it happens again next year do they drop us out of 1A status?

I found this link. It works for almost any phone and service. I just downloaded it for $1.99. It actually saves on your phone as an actual recording of our band rather than just a ringtone. Pretty cool! Here is the link:http://www.laurasmidiheaven.com/00-MIDI/Ri...nes/00000000279

Thanks for the link Zff. Unfortunately I have Verizon service and a Motorola Razr phone and neither of those are compatible with their ringtones. I emailed the webmaster to see if there was an alternative. Hopefully he comes back with something. Thanks again.

Does anyone know if our fight song is available as a ringtone? I have searched the web, but have come up empty.

That sucks! 8000/ 5 games is 1600 season tickets. Now, if it is a 1600 per game improvement over last year, then that's not bad. If the 1600 season tickets represent the total, then they are in bad a shape. If you look around the MAC, only Temple (Philadelphia), Eastern Michigan (Detroit), Buffalo, and Toledo are located in larger metropolitan areas than we are. There's no reason why we shouldn't have 25,000+ in the bowl every week. Even if you consider the RB to be the dying dinosaur that it is!
-
That was a brilliant idea. One that they obviously never considered. That guy who contacted you had better be on the phone to every current season ticket holder offering the same deal. If you ever need a job, the Zips should hire you for their marketing department. Heck, I'd hire you to work in sales!
