These Bracketology discussions are always nice to read, but as all of us know, an awful lot can change between now and early March. Very premature. If the Zips run the table, or come close to it, then I would suspect that they would be better than a 14 seed, or Gob forbid, we get upset in the conference tourney and have to settle for the NIT or some other garbage tournament. Georgetown could also fall or improve. I'm not paying any attention to this stuff. Just rooting for the Zips.

Campus of the Year Voting
Kangaroo Craig replied to UAZipster0305's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
This will eliminate allot of folks from being able to vote. "Enter your University of Akron (or any .edu) e-mail address." -
The Giants would be wise to re-sign him. I think he is an unrestricted free agent as he was signed to a short term deal in the middle of the season. Expect other teams with cap room to be showing an interest as well. Someone will offer him a pretty decent salary and bonus for the way he has played the last 8 games or so. Hixson may be available as well do to the emergence of Cruz and Hicks. Although Hixson's career my be over at this point. He has taken quite a beating over the last few years.

Yahoo article projecting ncaa tourney
Kangaroo Craig replied to mivid12's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
No respect, but never expected it from the selection committee. Based upon his predictions, we would play Baylor in the first round. The way this Zips team has been playing as of late, they will be a tough draw for anybody. Especially considering the depth on this team. They will not tire easily. -
Bobby Bowden needs his own thread

Thanks for the info. I just went to coach Bowden's FB page and thanked him for giving us Terry. -
Anyone getting the video feed?

Zips win! 56-55 -
Most important, and often the most overlooked thing (Especially by casual fans), is line play. Football is won and lost in the trenches. Line play on both sides of the ball was poor last year. Especially on the offensive side, and particularly in the area of pass blocking. Part of the reason why the quarterback play was lousy in 2010 was due to the lack of pass blocking on many instances.

[The Zips might be catching BG at a good time, since they will likely be a little full of themselves for knocking off an overrated Ohio team, while the Zips are battle-tested and got a wake-up call on Saturday. I don't see that as an advantage for our guys. BG will be playing with allot of confidence. I expect this to be a very hard fought game with the Zips pulling out a close one in the end. Our guys will have to show up ready to play.

He is a great talent. Probably better than anyone currently on the roster. His talent will make an immediate impact on our football team. The only thing that bothers me is the theft charges. Character does matter. Hopefully the coaching staff can be mentor him and steer him away from any possible future social problems. If he has matured and cleaned his act up, then this guy is a steal.

Merry Christmas!

I went to their board last night. They were making comments about his partying and womanizing and saying how that was okay for a college student, but not for the head football coach. Although the points are well taken, there is no proof that Bowden ever did these things. If it is true, it was almost 20 years ago. Funny that this is the only thing that the Can't losers can come up with.

What do we expect from our new coach.
Kangaroo Craig replied to zipseuph's topic in Akron Zips Football
3 wins in 2012 6 wins in 2013 9 wins and a bowl appearance in 2014 Even with 3 wins next year we will be competitive. No more blowout losses to Can't, Buffalo, and Western Michigan. Eventually I wanna see some payback to those schools for the beat downs that they gave us this year. -
Marla Ridenour on the Hiring of Terry Bowden
Kangaroo Craig replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football
+1 PD Link The part about seeking out LO to join his staff will raise a few ZNO members' blood pressures! Hiring Lee Owens would not bother me at all, but I seriously doubt he would ever consider coming back. Since Bowden is an offensive coach, his biggest challenge is going to be finding a good defensive coordinator. Hopefully we don't get snubbed by DC's the way we were snubbed by most of the HC candidates. -
Terry Bowden: Why Did No One Else Want Him?
Kangaroo Craig replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Football
I researched this further and these allegations are not proven. Bowden has also publicly denied them. My apologies to Terry Bowden for posting the mud slinging from his haters. -
Terry Bowden: Why Did No One Else Want Him?
Kangaroo Craig replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Football
Terry Bowden is a very good football coach. I have read that he was run out of Auburn because of infidelity problems. He could not keep his manhood in his pants. He screwed up, but the problems were not coaching related. Dambrot made a mistake at CMU and Akron gave him a second chance. Now we are taking a chance on another guy with personal baggage. I see allot of similarities between this hire and the KD hire. Great coach with some past character issues. Akron will be very happy with Bowden much in the same way that we have been very pleased with Dambrot. We all make mistakes. Terry Bowden now gets a "Do over" at the FBS level. He will make the most of this chance and we as Zip fans, will be viewing our football program 5 years from now in much of the same manner as we currently view our basketball program. -
Here's an interesting quote also. "According to the source, Bowden reached out to Akron." Makes one wonder if the athletic department would have even tried to contact him. If that's the case, then Wistricill is still a fool.

Nice Dumb and Dumber reference (kind of an odd one considering the hire is NOT dumb... :-). Great hire!!! http://youtu.be/UnkefjCES-4 Classic! Tom Wistricill has "Totally redeemed himself!"

I went with $551-$650K. I'm guessing he will make a salary similar to what Ohio is paying Frank Solich. I believe I had heard that Solich is in this range. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I absolutely love this hire. Just when I thought it couldn't get much worse for Akron football, they totally redeem themselves by bringing in Bowden. TB is arguably the best guy available not named Tressel. Go Zips!

PD Reports that Winters is staying at Wayne State
Kangaroo Craig replied to Kangaroo Craig's topic in Akron Zips Football
The UCLA Bruins play their bowl game on Dec. 31st. If this announcement keeps dragging on towards the end of the year, it will look more and more like it will be Johnson. I saw another post where someone mentioned Mason. I have not been on the board in a few days. Is Glen Mason a serious candidate? if so, He would be better than any of the others in my opinion. -
Who should the next coach have on their staff?
Kangaroo Craig replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
I'd take Getsy, but LeCharles is a HUGE buckeye homer. I followed him on twitter for a little but on Saturdays it was unbearable. But he was on ESPN Cleveland so being obnoxious about OSU is something they're known for sadly. But I think our OL coach, WR coach, and DC are the most important hires we will have. The key to rebuilding this team is to focus on defense and the OL. Just give the QB, whoever that may be, time to throw and our RB's space to run. Defense keeps the opponents off the board and everything else will fall into place. I know it's harder than it looks, but hopefully we can bring in a head coach with some connections and can bring in some "steals" for assistants. Since I don't think the HC will be anyone to get excited about... You obviously know about football. Its almost all about winning the line of scrimmage battle.
