No, the only GOAT in attendance was Freeman. 😂
-
Finally someone who mentions we've been missing what was supposed to be a top 2-3 player on this team.
-
NIU did a great job anticipating our passing lanes to prevent the quick ball movement we normally exhibit. Conversely, Akron did a very poor job going through anything more than just the motions. I would imagine the PSI in the game ball was much lower at the end of last night's game than it normally is. We dribbled the crap out of that thing and, to no surprise with very little success. Gotta get back to the unpredictable off-the-ball movement into the open space behind the defense.

I think they've played the boat anchors in the MAC for multiple games in a row. This team is good enough to sleepwalk through those games and win. The test will be Saturday - can they flip the switch against better competition?
-
Balls just hit a buzzer beater to win at Toledo. Scratch that. They waived it off.
-
Our offense has gotten stagnant recently when Nate runs it. Need to play through Scott & Tavari.
-
This is awesome. Going from Akron to literally play in an NBA game.
-
Massive crowd with a buzz too. People actually want to be here.
-
Last year's senior night was against NIU, and this year's Freeman night is against NIU. That's 2 of the last 4 Zips games I've attended being against the Huskies. They cannot go to the Horizon Summit Valley Conference League soon enough.

While we'll be celebrating Freeman tonight (and hopefully extending the nation's longest winning streak), there are some interesting matchups in the MAC. Kent at BUGS - BG has the weapons to knock off Kent, they just need to stop sucking. Miami at EMU - Does Miami take out all their anger from the WMU loss on Stan Heath's crew, or does Heath's squad hold serve at home in front of a raucous crowd of 10 people? CMU at Ohio - Has anybody found AJ Clayton or will CMU turn the dial up even more on Boals' already scalding hot seat? Balls at Toledo - Go Balls. WMU at Canada - Literally nobody cares. NWAkron cares.

Happy GOAT Day!

Class of '25 Verbal Commits
Let'sGoZips94 replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Based on an article that was shared with me, it looks like PSU switched his position to WR after an injury. Hopefully his switch back to Safety for us will yield success. -
Freeman's attendance is worth at least 10 more points. Here's to hoping Akron honors him properly and wins by 25.

Matt Kaulig (Racing) Former Zips QB
Let'sGoZips94 replied to Section210Zip's topic in Akron Zips Football
This was a survival of the fittest race and I was shocked to see Ty Dillon snag a top 15 finish. He and Almendinger had great starting positions, but weren't as fortunate to avoid disaster during the race (Almendinger more so than Dillon). Pretty cool that Ty signed with Kaulig Racing. His grandpa is Richard Childress. -
I believe it was Seth Wilson not far from him that looked down at the ball in confusion like, "Oh, you're not going to dive for the ball you lost? I have to go for it?" Throughout his career, Nate has had these poor habits of sleepwalking through games. He's almost too good for his own good at times because the game becomes too easy and he falls into the trap of taking plays off as a result. Again, so many coachable moments for Groce to review with the team; I suspect this will be towards the top for JG.
-
Take the win, come home, and get right by whooping Husky ass on Freeman night. Lots of coachable moments in this game, and we all know Groce will be sure to capitalize. Love that we're not losing while still working through those struggles. 13 in a row. Keep it rolling!
-
He has to be the favorite. Best player on by far the best team.
-
That pass on the backdoor cut by Gray, while being in the same side of the court as Young (the cutter), was elite. One of the prettiest passes on a backdoor cut I've seen in some time.
-
I'm not saying it would. I posted what I think would be ok stipulations that both allowed for expansion and maintained the integrity of college basketball. I'm well aware their goal is to get the C & D tier Power Conference teams into the tourney.
-
Nobody wants this, as you can tell by the crowd's reaction. However, I would be ok with the expansion if the following became true... - Conference play is year round - not just January through March - for all conferences - Power Conference teams must play X amount of true road games at mid majors - Auto bid for all regular season conference champs with a NET ranking in the top XX
-
Kent doesn't win games - other teams lose them. Both teams suck. Ohio is challenged athletically and in basketball IQ. Kent is offensively challenged (and IQ challenged but that's redundant since I already said "Kent"). If the MAC Championship game is anybody but Akron & Miami, I will be shocked. Side note: just went to Bobcat Attack and saw the headline that their win at BUGS on Tuesday was their first win in BG in 8 years. Holy...
-
They're going to need those suitcases for the MW travel.
-
Kent up 4 at the half on Ohio 44-40 after both teams were hot from the field. Ohio started off 10/11 but cooled off a bit. Ohio let Kent keep up with a bunch of awful awful turnovers.
-
Your first paragraph is correct, although it's missing the detail of Abreu's arrest during the last week or so of the season. They regrouped after Kent, beat Jim Christian's Bobcats with Groce's roster by 19 in the title game, then got embarrassed in Auburn Hills with over half the team out due to the flu. Buffalo lost at NIU during the 2018-19 season. I don't remember the court storming, and can only picture all 5 fans in attendance overpowering the security guards to get onto the floor. It wasn't a long winning streak (6 games), but Buffalo was ranked 14th at the time.
