Imagine if Butler hadn't promoted from within with Brad Stevens.

I didn't talk about his talent. He's great. Top 2 talent of all time. I think you're underestimating LeBron's involvement in player personnel.

When LeBron is involved in your organization, your organization is held hostage by his ego. I also believe LeBron's basketball IQ is highly overrated, so him controlling your franchise isn't a good thing strictly from that standpoint. When LeBron came back in 2014, the Cavs had Andrew Wiggins, Kyrie Irving, and some cap space. LeBron pushed to trade Wiggins for Love, and proceeded to use the open cap space to sign his veteran buddies. He had Blatt fired, and replaced with the joke-of-a-coach in Ty Lue, strictly because Lue would listen to LeBron. The loss in '15 was due to the injuries to Kyrie & love. The victory in '16 was improbable, and I'm thankful for it, but then Golden State adapted, going out and adding KD. Ironically enough, LeBron started the super team trend, and was ultimately defeated by the trend he started. Instead of wisely using any cap space we had to get younger, LeBron pushed for big contracts for JR & Thompson - contracts we're still stuck with while he's out in LA now. The constant drama that surrounded the team got real old, and we greatly underachieved, only winning 1 title. He never committed to Cleveland once he came back, and pulled this team/fan base through the mud throughout all of his contract crap. Now we're sitting here, some saying the Cavs are going to suck, because LeBron failed to allow the Cavs to prepare for the future. If the Cavs are wise, they follow the Celtics model - hire a good coach (I've been saying for a while I'd hand Jay Wright a blank check to come coach the Cavs), establish a system, and build through the draft. Eventually, you'll have a product that will attract some key free agents. A team that nails those steps, as the Celtics have, will achieve more than what LeBron has achieved. Edit: Side note. If you want to see how bad LeBron is as a GM, the Cavs now have the 2nd lowest title odds in the NBA since his departure. Pathetic. Good riddance.

Hudson...? Do you mean Bath? Thank goodness he's gone. Best thing for the Cavs in the long run.
-
No mention of his 3 or 4 consecutive Big Ten championships? Bummer.
-
I must have missed that, and instead read into your takes as implied attacks on the sport of football. What an incredibly hot take.

Psh. 615 1x, that's it? I rep that weight... on seated leg press. Wow that's an impressive squat. Sounds and looks like our strength and conditioning program is strong... Pun intended.
-
Dangit. The Indians will just miss Bassitt. I guess this is a good thing, because I'd want the Indians to shell him, but I'd also want Bassitt to do well.

First of all, thank you for your service. Second of all, I am a HUGE advocate of the above statement. If football eventually dies, let it be because of the choices of the individuals after they are well informed on the matter.

Good hire.

I'm assuming most if not all leagues have some sort of warning system now where they hand out papers with the risks. We're in a lawsuit-happy society now, and to avoid negligent liability, that's pretty standard practice (again, I'm assuming).
-
It's troubling, but at this point, anyone who plays football knows the risks. Joe Thomas is on record for saying he knows what football has done to his body and brain, but he knew the risks when he signed up to play football. That doesn't make it any less sad, nor does it excuse a lack of progress in safety equipment (not saying there is a lack of progress), but it's football.

Huge get. Wow.

Two REALLY bad articles. - Ohio can't be a CLEAR favorite to win the East when they lost it last year to Akron, who has probably gotten better and deeper. - Incredibly contradictory to say the Zips should have an explosive offense, yet only have us putting up 3 points in several games, and at most 17 points in other games. - There is no basis for these predictions other than throwing noodles at the wall to see what sticks.

2018-2019 Non Conference Schedule

Boom! Transfer U baby! Excellent addition. -
By 11:30, we'll probably have 22 players for the 2019 class in the first post, including some blue chippers.

Man, so much negativity surrounding such a positive project. A reboot of the baseball program is huge. I get that there are a boat load of challenges, but never forget...

Poor kids... (in reference to a pathway to Can't State AKA PCCC, and not in reference to economic status)

What's interesting is, while the expansion will obviously benefit the sub-par P5 schools the most (and that's the goal, to draw those fan bases and their wallets in), bowls like this are targeting the mid-major conferences, which is cool. The amount of bowl games is ridiculous, but they provide a national outlet for players to get noticed by the next level, an extra game of experience, budget benefits, recruiting benefits, etc. There is way more good with bowl games than bad, especially for schools like Akron that need the exposure. Off-the-cuff thought, but I wonder if it would be possible to give these bowl games more meaning by creating some sort of tournament, or tournaments out of them.

I get real sick and tired of hearing about NCAA student-athlete exploitation. - The NCAA is corrupt, there is no doubt about that, but the least of its worries is student-athlete exploitation. - Ask college graduates if they wish they had a full-ride scholarship to keep them out of potentially $80-120k+ of student-loan debt, then come talk to me about how student-athletes aren't compensated (not to mention the benefits they receive - free travel, equipment, food, potentially nicer dorms, etc.). - Half these athletes, especially in the sports LeBron is focusing on (basketball & football), have thousands of dollars of artwork on their bodies. I don't want to hear about how they're "under-compensated" or "need more money". - Football & basketball - especially football - actually drain other potential student-athletes of equal opportunity through Title IX. With huge, inflated budgets and a massive amount of scholarships allocated to those sports, schools can't field near the amount of sports. Men's tennis & men's lacrosse especially have suffered from the scholarship allocation aspect, and many other sports - men's & women's - have suffered from the budget aspect. - I find it ironic that LeBron is talking about student-exploitation, when he benefited from a NBA that allowed 18 year old's to jump straight from high school to the NBA, yet his NBA doesn't allow that same opportunity. If he wants to help these student-athletes with financial compensation, he should work to get rid of the one-and-done rule, while also building up the G League or another developmental league. The same goes for the NFL in regards to a developmental league.

Love, love, LOVE the Charlie Frye news. Man I can't wait until football season (although I will gladly take a slow summer to avoid the inevitable season of winter).

And a mega-pipeline right in their backyard.

Zips Offer Austrian OL?
Let'sGoZips94 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I'm confused by their website/roster/logo. Are they an Oakland Raiders affiliate? -
Bummer. I was looking forward to his record-breaking technical foul season.
-
Didn't see that they hired Crean - good hire. Either team is a plus in my eyes - Georgia with the name recognition/SEC factor, Illinois State with the solid mid-major resume/@Illini Zip factor. GREAT tournament all around - location, field, and who we actually play.
