  1. Groce* As in Michael Jordan's long lost son.
  2. Catching up with some MAC-related news. Rashaun Agee committed to USC. Nice upgrade for him. Miami (OH) just landed 6'9" 250 lbs Cleveland native Antwone Woolfolk out of Rutgers. Bobkitten "Attack" is in shambles.
  3. Don't forget to add Groce's son as a walk-on.
  4. Thanks. Didn't realize all transfer restrictions were overturned. Sheesh. NCAA has only themselves to blame. If they weren't so morally bankrupt and corrupt for decades on end, they would've had a better legal footing to stand on to maintain some power.
  5. Or unless they have a waiver approved. Waiver reasons can include mental health, which anymore is just about everyone.
  6. Well he speaks coherently so that disqualifies him from the current White House. Good things are happening with the basketball program. 3 P5 guys are coming here and a 4th player that chose us over P5s and high mid-majors. Clearly there's, at the very least, some truth to what Wentz is saying. He's also putting his money where his mouth his and heavily financing these endeavors. Why do you feel the need to 💩 all over it?
  7. I'm 100% in your camp. I think I was bitching during the season about Baker redshirting cause we needed to see if anyone on the team could give us some scoring.
  8. I don't think we can judge if Baker was a miss as a player. The "miss" is found with the roster construction. I think it's quite obvious the staff have learned their lesson. This is a complete 180 in recruiting approach this offseason.
  9. Because we needed a scorer last year, and that scorer's scholarship was occupied by a player that chose to redshirt and is now leaving the program. To be clear I'm not mad at Darrion. Just frustrating to see how many recruiting misses the coaches had in the last few years post-COVID. Baker was always pretty well recruited out of high school. He was potentially stretch 4 material which is big in today's game. We are also now lacking depth in the front court. Lyles and Okonkwo are the more traditional "big men" on this team. Harris is a good rebounder but plays more on the perimeter. MMK seems to be more of a 3/4 Forward than a 4/5 F/C, and Brisco might fit the PF mold but will only be a true freshman. I wouldn't be surprised to see a guard transfer out and a "big" fill their spot.
  10. Fudge. Rat farts. Double turds. What a waste of a scholarship/redshirt.
  11. Tribble shot the 3 ball so well last year I didn't even think of him as the comparison. 😂 He is the Tribble replacement.
  12. Very good at getting to the rim and finishing.
  13. Yup, perfect analysis of how he fits. He had 19 pts vs Ohio State in the NIT. Capable of hitting the outside shot although not at a high clip (upper 20s percentage wise). He's a stronger version of Banks on paper.
  14. He'll fit in just fine. Very efficient scorer - not as good of a shooter. Strong defense, too.
  15. Good for Mikal - going home.
  16. Essentially it's an analysis of gains through the Portal by conference. It's still relatively early on, but based on this, the MAC is doing well despite the volume of Portal-goers from the MAC.
  17. Entering the Portal closes May 1st I believe but finding another program doesn't close. I could be wrong but there are still a couple thousand players in the Portal along with more being added daily.
  18. Will be interesting to revisit this when all the dust settles.
  19. Good call - you might be right. That was coupled with the comment that Groce's teams are typically built around guard play, correct?
  20. It isn't fully done. Wentz said there's a full reveal happening in July(?).
  21. Meaningful regulation without enforcement wasn't any better. The likes of Kentucky, Kansas, Ohio State, etc. have been all been doing this stuff - and much worse - prior to NIL. The Indiana and Kansas stories this offseason (paying $1M+ for players) are wrong, but overall the playing field is more level than it was before. The key to what Wentz talked about is that all things financially being equal, Akron is a notch above (minimum) their competition. The reputation of development and winning under Groce & co. is something we should be very proud of as fans and excited about going forward. Wentz confirmed this through networking during the 2nd week of the Tournament. His takeaway was how highly thought of Groce & his staff are in the college basketball community. Regarding the facilities, other schools may have newer buildings, but the amenities our facilities offer is on par with some of the best. The video capabilities in the practice facility sounds incredible (players can take video of their practice session and it's sent to coaches for review/feedback), high end sports medicine on site, and the locker rooms/lounge are top notch. These are where the players spend the most time. Wentz mentioned that a woman's team recruit from a P5 school said our facilities were way better than what she previously had at a P5 school. Wentz was asked his opinion of the roster and what his excitement level was. He was surprisingly hesitant to be excited and said he thinks they need 1-2 more pieces (which is what led into his answer @Hilltopper mentioned about 1-2 more players being added and announcements coming soon). He stated the program is building to be a 2nd weekend team in March Madness. Josiah Harris was targeted over guys that "fans would be surprised to hear." Not surprising based on what WVU fans said about him on Twitter. Incredibly high character and has strong abilities on the court. He, Okonkwo, and Wilson filled the initial 3 needs. Interesting coaching tidbit - Dustin Ford handles the defense while Groce handles the offense. Wentz mentioned there might be a shakeup in the coaching duties, but didn't say what.
