2024 Post Mortem and Looking Ahead to 2025.

Wow. This should be fun. For those who don't know, Don Haskins is the legendary basketball coach that started the first ever all-black lineup in the championship game vs Adolph Rupp's Kentucky Wildcats in 1966. Texas Western (UTEP now) won the National Championship that year. His story is highlighted in Disney's hit movie - Glory Road. Jackson State's coach is still Mo Williams, and Yale is coming off yet another nice showing in March. Nice unique additions to the OOC schedule. -

This cannot be understated. The BS move to cancel everything in 2020 set this program back a few years. The Freeman thread posed the question "what will Freeman's draft pick do for the program" - imagine where we'd be with a potential tourney run in 2020 AND Freeman getting drafted? -

As @1981 grad stated, Khadim Gueye needs to be a miss. I also think Trimble and Dailey should be misses. Michael Wynn could be argued as a "miss" as well. I'd move Riak to "hit". Otherwise, great list. In terms of Enrique Freeman, we're 2 days away from hearing his name called in the NBA Draft. Whether he's a last 1st rounder or 2nd rounder, what an exciting time for Zips Nation. I'm going with 30th to Boston.

Big time replacement. Huge success at EKU that should be duplicated if not exceeded here.

Sure it does. There is a massive frustration among college athletics fans regarding the state of college athletics. Fans want geographically-friendly conferences, traditional rivalries, and a relatively level playing field. Build that and your product will sell. Greedy corporate assholes are leading college athletics down the wrong path solely to line their own pockets. Let the Big Ten and SEC eat themselves. Dare to be different.

The AFL didn't solve a problem.

Akron to play Ohio State to open the 2024 season

A familiar face will be on the opposing sideline. -

His highlights are solid. He's a heck of an athlete. Unfortunately for him, KSUcks students might try to get him cancelled.

The MAC is gonna be all over social media.

It's coming...

An adult dance club should sponsor one of the leagues - that would at least be more accurate to the actions of these power conferences. Nobody wants this level of corporate involvement. This decision is getting destroyed, and these spineless commissioners and ADs don't care as long as their pockets are lined. All it would take is for a group of people with integrity, morals, and a spine to say, "SEC, Big Ten - you can go sword fight in the same urinal together. We don't want to play your game and instead want to cater to the fans of COLLEGE ATHLETICS, not your semi-pro BS. Enjoy whatever the future has in store." Then create a separate league that goes back to the roots of college athletics. Side note: I did see someone suggest that Anheuser-Busch should sponsor a league and name it Busch League. I might be able to get on board with that haha.

That is going to look incredibly good and really complete the stadium. I'd imagine the original plan was to put a ribbon board there a while back before the team started sucking and private donors stayed away. Surprised Learfield is allowed to pay for something like this considering they work with multiple colleges. Thanks for the info, Hilltopper!

There's an entire section of steel at the front of the away side upper deck that would normally be occupied by a scoreboard ribbon if we had P4 money. That is prime advertising real estate that I can't believe hasn't been utilized yet. Every camera angle from the press box that isn't directly zoomed in on the field would capture the signage.

Bring him home.

I watched Pete talk about this on Pat McAfee today. Hearing the explanation of how this would work, I'm going to agree with Pat McAfee - this is incredibly stupid business. However, the MAC should explore a variation of this. The idea Pat had would be to sell marketing rights where all the games are "Presented by (insert company here)" instead of outright naming rights.

Wow! 84 ft is ~double (if not more) what the current video board is. The new board will essentially take up the real estate that is currently occupied by 1990s advertisement pieces. Here is the comparison... This coupled with better sound management (we need to let the band play more instead of obnoxiously blaring music constantly) will be a big boost to the gameday experience. There is a legitimate financial commitment being made by a select group of donors to Akron Athletics. Very encouraging.

For any nerds out there like myself, this is some interesting stuff.

I can only imagine what her major is. My kids can go wherever they want, except Kent. I'd rather them choose homelessness - at least they won't catch whatever illnesses get spread throughout that 💩hole.
