  1. but I don't believe he ever said the dreaded "rebuilding"
  2. live feed starts at noon....if they don't screw it up.yes, there is a tab that says "live events", but when you start out, default is the "on demand".Perhaps it will start on the live events after 12:00
  3. sweet, thanx for the headsup and the link[edit] this is all cached vids.
  4. This was my very first though (first post in fact) in the thread that rumored Ianello. I don't know, but perhaps the HC doesn't have to be the Xs & Os guy at all, if you have the right people in place. In fact, that seems to me to make more sense organizationally. It's almost like when they judge a president by the cabinet he puts together.
  5. The logic is argumentative, and intended for use by those who like to work things out without simply accepted the company line. It's a form of skepticism. It is not intended to be overly negative, except for it's use in deriving alternative perspectives. If you think the point of asking questions is to make the statement that we should reject him simply because he does have ties to the AD is to completely miss the point. And since you have demonstrated your intelligence consistently on this site, I'm quite sure you missed the point rhetorically.I think you can be more fair than to accuse me of saying that we should reject anyone that might appear to demonstrate a conflict.
  6. Personally I don't find insider nepotism nearly as objectionable as outsider nepotism. Look a smiley face. <- like that?Stay on target luke. Don't be distracted by my repetitive, pleonastic, wordy redundant verbiage.
  7. I find myself coming up with rationalizations about the Wisconsin connection. After all, if you happen to have personal knowledge about someone who is going to be under most everyone else's radar, that's an advantage for you.But all of the arguments against it make it hard not to hear the negative side.Is it just taking the easy road, making a pick that you are familiar with, rather than doing the hard work of finding and then culling all of the best candidates?Worse (and this is hard to believe) is it a form of insider nepotism or networking among old friends and colleagues?
  8. You're whole post is so ridiculous, I assume it's all unhinted sarcasm. If you can just pick a BCS school and start rooting, then you were never faithful to your alma mater to start with, even when you thought you were.None of us have any control over this thing. That's just what being a fan is all about. Pure spectators.... no matter whether we agree or disagree with decisions, we have a completely passive role.... but chosing not to be a fan is probably the only choice that you have for yourself. That's fine, if you feel so disappointed that you need to divest, but you said that this is your alma mater. If that's true, then you may not want to reward (what you think is) a bad decision with your money, but it says something about you that you are willing to turn your back on it all together.
  9. I love the recruiting prowess, but no HC experience, or even as a high level coordinator makes me nervous. If he is the pick, I'd hope that a staff is put together that compensates for this.
  10. I think that's "restoration", but in a way, you and I were making similar points.Let's not call the project a renovation. It would obviously be bigger than that.
  11. Okay, when you say rennovation, I think of mostly superficial and non-structural demolition. The construction, of course, can be significant. While it's been quite a while since I was down there, I am having a hard time imagining how it could be turned into an arena without it becoming a predominantly full scale demolition and construction project. In other words, not much unlike a new project. I guess the benefit would be to replace John S Knight with something newer in a dual purpose project.
  12. OMFG I just thought of a horrible flàsh game idea.tries.... to.... resist.....
  13. :lol:This thread has very rapidly become WIN
  14. People who play/coach defense have the brains of an ant. Anyone with half of a brain plays offense. We need an offensive coach who won't run a gimmick defense and we will be fine.Wow. I love offense and I tend to focus on offense when I watch football. However, I can't subscribe to your perspective.Defenses have to react. Offenses have to execute together, but they have the luxury of knowing what the play is. All except the most dominant defense are not dictating what happens on the field. Defenses have to execute together without that luxury.A good defensive coach doesn't just know one offense (like an offensive coach). He needs to know all of the offenses that his defense must face.If I was an offensive coach and I was was planning out new schemes, I'd have some defense coaches in the room to help me figure out how they would counter it.
  15. how do you "keep kids out of trouble".no really, serious question.Since you can't keep in practice 14 hours a day, I am assuming there are some abstract but important subtleties about creating a culture among your athletes and their lifestyles?Or are you just barking up the tree of recruiting kids with good character to start with? ... because that's not keeping kids out of trouble, that is keeping trouble out of your locker room.
  16. Not to continue the off-topic tangent, but @eguins, you need to realize (if you haven't) that if you think you are fostering love and admiration for your hometown by coming here with prideful taunts, baiting, and trolling, I think your diplomatic instincts are whack.
  17. Guys, I'm naive to Soccer and to Porter, unfortunately, but I have a hard time believing that stadium upgrades are enough to keep him around when big money starts getting waved around. He could be the greatest guy ever, but everyone has a price. Everyone.
  18. I asked that question myself. I guess that the answer was that they wanted a "more intimate" venue for soccer. The info would be to large and never fill close enough to capacity.I also asked why they couldn't just use the info for post-season or high profile matches where the stadium could fill up more. Then someone said they could have, but the lines and markings on the current field wont accommodate the game.So I guess perhaps it's a little lack of fore-sight
  19. Wow, you'd think a NCAA coach never got let-go before.
  20. "Akron is attempting to become the first team in 35 years to win a national championship"? I thought a team won one every year?fixed
  21. I can agree with Tom when he talks about finding a coach who will make a positive experience/environment for the players. And anyone can agree with Tom when he talks about finding a coach with a culture of winning. But what I can't sign on to is all the peripheral garbage like exciting the community.I don't care if the new coach hides in his evil lair and doesn't come out except for practices and games, if he wins football games, he will excite the community.
  22. Yes, I forgot to mention, in addition to internship possibilities this could be the first step in the University's plans to control the market. Today, Exchange street, tomorrow the World. lol@world marketSeriously though, scarcity of outside competition in a small geographical area is not a new concept. A la, a ballpark, stadium, theater, or theme park. The "captive audience" so to speak. But it wasn't my point to sound conspiratorial. Just to say, if your plans and decisions could also increase scarcity of access, it could be to your benefit.Scarcity of access. One of my most favorite terms learned at the Nation. To increase scarcity of access I suggest surrounding the campus with a moat. It could turn into Ohio's answer to the River Walk. I like it. :thumb:We can ditch my wacky monorail idea for some gondolas and paddle boats!

  24. True. But what happened last time we had a new head coach?Good point...... and if someone comes in next year and goes .500 or better, it will definitely provide even more validation to this decision.
  25. Exactly. The dismal season cost us a couple hundred thousand dollars in lost ticket sales today alone. Add those amounts to his salary and a 1 year buyout looks like a bargain. But when you are "rebuilding" a program, no one ever lays the expectations on the new regime to right the ship first season.I was hyped when we brought in those high-profile assistants before this season, but where did that get us? Just askin. What's Shanahan doing these days?
