  1. I know that we see it all the time and get tired of it, but odds are that "the lebron tie in" will be the first time a reader has heard of it for most people outside our area, and is fine with me if it goes a little farther to planting a seed of identification and recognizability to the school's name. And if, (big "if") the zips get into NCAA tourney and win a few games, that's probably all you would hear people identifying the zips with "Oh yeah, the ex teammates of Lebron James". But still, it's the kinda thing that sticks in peoples memory, and can help Akron seem a little bit more recognizable to some schlub in Oregon or Oklahoma who might otherwise mix the name up with Alcorn State or something. heh
  2. Tight all game til the 4th quarter.
  3. Needle said, and I quote "That is the worst call I have seen in my life" lol, I dunno why I am listening to him. I guess it's just interesting to hear the other perspective
  4. did I read that this game was on TV?I scanned the channels earlier and couldn't find it.
  5. lol, if you were to go by Bill Needle, you would think these were the worst refs ever against Can't
  6. NOICE!If we had karma at zipsnation, Kiel, I'd grant you some.
  7. I stole it (ritalin)If you made 1mill a year, just as a hypothetical, how much would you give to your alma mader for a stadium? Half your year's salary? Wow, if you are married, your wife is gonna kick your ass.How about 100k? I still doubt that would happen.But....anything less than that is a drop in the bucket for a large project like this.If anything, what you would like is to get guys like Frye and Taylor to lend their names and donate some time toward getting corporate and charitable donations which could add up to mucn more than those guys would ever give up themselves.
  8. I'd rather just give props to both of them.Honestly, you gotta like the progress and results that both have delivered.Although this season was a touch disappointing in football, I honestly get the sense that things game together wrong, and next year will be different. JD got a bowl bid.KD got a tourney invite.I guess that's why I wan't to give props to both and just say, lets have this discussion in a few years.
  9. It's 640, WHLO, andI find irony in the fact that Can't (teh hippy skool) has their games played on WHLO (a conservative talk station) and Akron games are aired on the dime-store air-america hippy station
  10. tell me it wasnt bubba... Troutman I think
  11. Can't scoresCan't 67Ohio 65FinalCan't wins, but Akron leads the Mac East again.
  12. Woah! Ohio hit a 3!Ohio 65Can't 6524 secs left
  13. Can't 65Ohio 6236 seconds left
  14. Ohio 62Can't 621:49 left
  15. Unfortunately, a Can't win puts all three teams at 2-1 in the conference, with akron on top due to overall standings. An Ohio win puts them at 3-0, Akron 2-1, and Can't 1-2.I think I'd rather have the three way tie
  16. Ohio 57Can't 57start of OT
  17. I dunno. Even if it's not as exciting, sometimes a good hardcore blowout makes you feel all fuzzy inside. :rock:Pwnage is soul therapy
  18. Balki, you are favorite ZN poster. but I guess [strong]disagreements are not necessarily a bad thing if you can still be civil about it afterwards. I remember goin'round with a few people in that soccer stadium thread, and I can't even remember who right now because I don't bother with an ounce of grudge just because people disagree with me.
  19. OSU sux! :lol:Seriously though, Florida had them on their toes with a conventional defense, and if our game vs Penn State was any indication, Big Ten teams might not know how to attack our D
  20. If you have worked years in the construction industry, then you know that subcontractors can be held, legally, to uphold the aspects of the job specifications that they agreed to when they won the bid and accepted the job. Sure, there are some things, such as using cheap concrete, that may not be found right away, but for the most part, it is up to the owner and construction manager to make sure the job is beind done according to design. That is all I was getting at.If the owner takes takes on a the management philosophy that cutting corners is more important than getting a quality product, then you will get the results you fear. This, however, is not always how it works. I have seen plenty of jobs where contractors were required to complete re-do their work, at their own expense, because it did not meet specifications. This is why I say that well written specs are the key.
  21. I too fear that the 50 odd million sounds too cheap for a nice stadium, but consider the following:1) N.E.Ohio economy has been in recession relative to the rest of the country for years (if not decades) and thus, even with the presence of unions, a project of this nature could come in considerable cheaper than in many other places. Basically, there are a lot of construction companies and related industry that NEED to win contracts just to work. Bidding should be low. Maybe the estimates are hoping for this....?2) When do projects EVER come in below budget? It wouldn't suprise me if this one ends up having a final pricetag over 70M when it's done. This seems contradictory to point#1, but all I am saying is, you're comparing this estimate to the final cost of other projects. 3) Remember, just having newer facilities will be nice, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, having them right on campus will be a dream! I'm not saying that we should "settle". I just think, keep it in perspective. As long as they have pre-designed expandability, that is good enough for me.
  22. GP1, it depends on the industry and the project. If your specificiations are ..... well....... specific, and well written, the construction manager and subcontractors can't skirt them. Also, the construction manger has to answer to the owner and/or architect, so it's really up to them how much "value engineering" occurs.
  23. Thing is gonna get rolling, hopefully soon, but I haven't heard about anything out for bid in terms of the various construciton contract/subcontract stuff yet. I guess you need a project manager first.
