I have provided more facts than anyone in this topic. I saw some articles posted, but everyone is speaking from opinion about how they think this will hurt UofA (and then using a "this will bomb" rationale to support them). I have posted facts, such as the negotiations between the development group and the communities, and information about studies that have been done. Now, I fear it's just one of those internet 'last word' type arguements..... and I'll let you have it.

I gave up looking, but it was published. Yes, "promise" was the wrong word. Contractual law is strong. Even bancrupsy isn't as good as it used to be for skirting financial responsiblity. You know, this thread made me realize how far bias can go toward closing minds.
-
I am going to try to hunt down some sources, because I remember reading that when Macedonia was negotiating with Wolstein, they wanted ironclad promise of payment for a certain number of years regardless of how the team does.

all emotion....and I understand the emotion, but I really don't think you are using your head except to figure out ways to rally around what your heart says. I too wouldn't want anything to hurt us from getting a stadium on campus, but I am not going to say irrational things that I have no basis for.We have a stadium. It sux, it's true, and it doesn't draw well, but we don't "NEED" one more than wolstien does. Pro-soccer will not succeed down town. It can succeed in suburbia. If you disagree with that, fine. But why would a reasonably intelligent developer risk his own money on what you are calling a sure-thing failure???[edit-add]just read the two articles. I am forced to ask, would the county pass a "cigarette-tax" for university football stadium. I highly doubt it would get funding that way. This seems like apples and oranges to me.

It's human nature, of sorts, even though we are dealing more with the sociology of government and/or group decision making than it does psychology, it holds true. They will ALWAYS work harder to bring in a new resource (or keep it from leaving) than they will to plakate one that is 'stuck' here. It's why professional (privately owned) sports teams always get new stadiums, but universities and public parks remain relatively underfunded.Regardless, I just don't see how a soccer stadium hurts the University's plans to build an on-campus football stadium

I did not say that the soccer team will be successful in terms of following or attendence. That part I cannot predict, but I do hear they have market research which indicates that it will do better in that region than it will downtown. I don't know the specifics. Also, I do believe that the community members of the J.E.D.D. which were negotiating with Wolstein&development groups had as one of their bargaining points a requirement that they will get paid no matter what happens with the team.

cute, but wrong.I don't think you actually took the time to read and comprehend my post, and all the factors that contribute to a valid reason to build. I didn't say reasons, I said reason. All of those factors mean that it will be a success both for the builders, clients, and communities involved. If you think they are wrong, well, you must be smarter than them, but I have to ask, why should you care.Again, I say, you must feel threatened by it, and I can't figure out why. Now, your cute quote is silly if you read my post. There wasn't anything near where they old colleseum was build over 30 years ago, and there wasn't 25 years later, and now there is nothing but park. Macedonia is completely different. Been there, been growing, will be growing.

lol, I can't believe we feel threatened by a soccer stadium.First off, macedonia is a great location for soccer stadium. Look at all the nearby suburbanite and yuppy cities, not to mention that Rt.8, I271, and I80 all intersect there.Secondly, it wont kick up traffic that much except during games.... Yes, I have seen the plans for a shopping center and other development, but they are actually planning (with ODOT) to remove the signaled intersections and make Rt.8 a through-way. Thirdly, Soccer does not in any way compete with football. People don't say, "gee, I'm too tapped out rooting for pro-soccer and 3 other pro-teams to worry about college football". If you are a fan, you're a fan.Fourth, the football stadium will get built with or without public funds. Fifth, not all public funding gets voted on. ;)Also, what was that thread someone posted about a private consortium that was raising lots of money for development, of which, the stadium seemed to be a large part of the plans?Oh yeah, it can't hurt the region if the localities and county makes some extra tax dollars from soccer. It could help the region in terms of growth as well as image. Both of which could end up benefiting the university in a tertiary way.

I understand that some people think they are smarter than the average bear, and some people reall are smarter, and I can even understand wanting to get your opinion out on record for everyone to see so that if it turns out you are right, you can legitimately do the 'I told you so' happy dance in everyone's face.I have no problem with that.I just hope that once you get your opinion on record (and even debate it a little) , you don't make a habit out of bashing the coach constantly. *crosses fingers*I really want to see how it pans out without people really just givin' the guy a real chance.Thank you.

All I could think after looking at that record is "pwnt!"nice job.

I hope those aren't supposed to be residence halls on exchange street. That would be silly.Integrate residence halls onto spider or brown, but not exchange. Exchange should be for storefronts, and if not, then a short mall or some beautiful entry up to the front of the stadium. Why would you want to use prime real estate for residence halls? I'm sure it's not going to be like that.

Drawing historical parallels does not mean anything about the results of the change will be the same.I was calling for Carthon's head long before this, but I did not get on here to post a "told ya so", nor did I want to come on here to say that the Browns are going to start winning all of a sudden. I am merely stating that Frye is going to have a better chance to shine now.[edit] oh yeah, and I would also like it to be known that I am not calling Carthon a bad person or bad coach. He was just a horid play caller and tactical schemer.
-
During the NFL preseason, in a thread about how Frye looked, I made the contention that even though Maurice Carthon is a horible play calling offiensive coordinator (does not spread the field and does not use the various aspects of offense to keep the defense off balance), they were intentionally keeping plays very tame in order to keep their cards close to the vest until the season started.Well, after having witnessed a few games during the season, I realized that Carthon really wasn't hiding much.... he was just THAT BAD.Even if the Browns do not bring in a new O.C. mid-season, I expect (I hope) that the play calling will now begin to spread the field more on defenses, and more importantly, allow Charlie Frye to play to his talents (including allowing him to roll out more).

Maybe someone should threaten to pull the plug on the zips!*ducks*

So you Want Akron to have true Fan support
zen replied to Mr.McChickenTrousers's topic in Akron Zips Football
Then why is it that the Cleveland Browns seem to fair so much better than average in ticket sales when the team is performing so sub-average?Your theory is interesting, but in my opinion, regional economics is a minor factor at best. -
Sad. :(It seems like a lot of times, these collapse under exertion cases end up being a congenital heart problem that went undiagnosed.

Holy sheet! Not much latency, and decent resolution. Impressive[edit] I mean, it's not high def, but when you can expend the video to full screen and it's tolerable, yet the signal doesn't lag out, it's a serious video bandwidth feat.

NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I thought about making this thread, but then I remembered a very important pattern.Teh Norf Texas folks did a thread like this with our roster, and they got pwnt.We did a thread like this on Can't'z roster, and we got pwnt.[/superstition]
-
Oh well. It sux ass and I felt discusted during the game, and for a while afterwards.I can only imagine how our guys felt. But I have got something to say.Only the meek put their tail between their legs and go away quietly..Yes, I know we could actually still win the East, but I don't care about that. The zips need to start playing some M-F'ing football. It's time to start hitting 'em in the mouth. The pressure is probably off, but the pads are not.I'm going to wear my zips gear, and anyone who thinks they've got something to say is going to hear about it.I wont have a chip on my shoulder though. It just comes down to one simple truth. Pride dies only if you let it. No one can take it away. That's how I feel as a fan, and I sure as hell hope that's how our team feels.
-
Yes, but that doesn't mean we have to like it.
-
I was telling people before the season that the Browns wouldn't get their first win until the Oakland game. So far my prediction was right, but now I worry that the Browns wont even beat Oakland, because I was also assuring people that the Zips would have no problem with Can't.
-
Cause North Texas and NC State were crappy teams, and we cannot beat anyone with a winning record. We are not a very good football team. Aw Man here we go again. No, we played better against Penn State. In fact, the score didn't show it, but I thought that was our best game of the year. Now that all the pressure is off, I hope that we can atleast stop over scheming and start playing football. We have great players, and I want to see Getsy return to showing why he was breaking Frye's records. Light it up on a few teams and then unleash Kennedy on the pass-fearing defenses.
