iCoach hasn't gotten a full chance. They didn't hire him for one year. Give him 3-5yrs and make a judgement then. We can all see we suck now. I agree with AkronAD. I hope none of you invest in stocks. This guy was fired in his first season at a new job as well. It is soccer related but everyone seems to love that silly game here. I do invest in stocks. I have a "buy low/sell high" contrarian philosphy of investing, but if I was to rate UA football as if it was a stock, I would call it a bad investment choice at this time due to poor managment.

A big difference is that this was Brewster's third year. If this is where you are after three years, you're a goner. My guess is that Coach Ianello will get at least two years, not just because of the money contractually committed to him, but also because of the egg that would be on TW's face for having goofed up so badly by hiring him and paying him so much. It would be an admission by him of a huge screw-up. My hunch is that if RI wins 2 games or fewer next year, he will be gone, contract or no contract, especially if they are regularly blown-out, like this year. UA did not invest in these beautiful new on-campus facilities so that the team could turn off its fan base by regularly embarrassing itself in an empty stadium. Gosh, I hope they players don't read this stuff.

Did anyone else see what Nicely did on the end zone fumble?

Good post as usual. Are you saying that the 1.8 yards per carry rushing game we have isn't going to fool anyone in play action passes? In terms of finding a pro style QB, you are correct as well. They are going to have to look west to find a pro style QB. Mike Johnson was that QB years ago and he was the last one the school had. Getsy was a solid pro style QB, but we really didn't run a true pro style with JD. I make fun of the fact that half of the NFL QBs starting on Sundays aren't any good. How could many of them? The current landscape of high school and college football is full of spread offenses and the players are not prepared for the NFL. It's neither right nor wrong, it just is. A lot of HS QBs are prepared for college because they are prepared in HS for college spread offenses. NFL GMs need to do a better job of finding talented college QBs who may not come from a pro style offense. You really should contact the NFL and tell them about this. -
Comfortable. The last thing he should be is comfortable. If you're right, then this guy isn't going to last long as a head coach. 0-4. All embarrassments. Its hard to imagine any winning coach being comfortable with that.

No, we wouldn't be 5-0, but if I had to bet, I would say we have at last 2 wins and were competitive on the other 3. Not only has this team lost, they haven't even been competitive with the exception of a DIAA team. And to rub salt in the wound, apparently Gardner-Webb isn't that good. They have been winless since the Akron games, losing to Western Carolina, Sam Houston State, and Old Dominion.

No...do you have another guess? Let's see. The bottom picture says "Wichita State." I give up.

"Don't schedule Syracuse, Indiana or Kentucky. They're too tough." Too much losing breeds a loser mentality. I'm an Akron grad and I know this is an Akron board, but indulge me for a few seconds. I also have a degree from Toledo and I follow both teams. Both cities are comparable in size and demographics, and they both have very nice football facilities, but there's a huge difference in the fan base, at least for football. Toledo always puts BCS teams on its schedule and they beat their share. This year it is was Purdue. Last year it was Colorado. In recent years they've beaten Kansas, Michigan, and a few others I can't think of right now. The fans love it and its a recruiting tool, for sure. One of the most thrilling games I have ever been to was when UT beat Pitt at the Glass Bowl during Larry Fitzgerald's senior year. I remember reading the next day that a bunch of recruits were at the game and they had to be impressed. The place was filled to the rafters and it was rocking the entire game. If the Toledo AD was to announce tomorrow that fewer BCS schools would be scheduled because "They're too tough," he would be fired. What Akron needs is a head coach who can create a winner. Sooner or later they'll get the right guy (law of averages?) and then people will get what I'm talking about. We got a taste of it with JD, and it was great.

The schedule is fine. The team is bad.

A championship-caliber MAC football team should be able to be competitive with, and sometimes beat, mid-level Big Ten teams. Indiana is not a mid-level Big Ten team and Akron was barely competitive. Akron is not a MAC championship-caliber team.
-
"Are we good or Bad?" We're good. Really good.
-
I don't think it works that way. This isn't comparable to Akron going to Penn State where they were going to have 100,000 in the stands, guaranteed. I doubt G-W had any kind of significant payday.

Good observations from an outsider's perspective. It sounds like you had a decent time. I agree about the ticket prices. Bitching about paying $20 for a major college football game is nuts. But bitch some people do. Sorry the home team provided such a sorry exhibition of football. It was embarassing.

For a little local color, I'd second Luigi's. Good Italian food. Local institution. Decent prices. Located Main St. on the north end of downtown. Short drive (5 -10 minutes) to the stadium. Also, if you're a comics fan, the creator of Funky Winkerbean lives outside of Akron and he used Luigi's as the model for the restaurant Montoni's in the comic strip. Website: luigisrestaurant.com.

Miami was the undefeated national champion in 1987. Toledo played them at the Orange Bowl late in the season and gave them one of their tougher games before losing 24-14. Not many people remember that game, but it was maybe the best showing by a MAC football team ever. I think that's the last time they played, but its games like that that give a program confidence that they can play with the big boys.

Oratorious D.I.G reminded me of another point - He isn't working exclusively on weights and neglecting his cardio, is he? Oh that would be terrible...just terrible... For you, D.I.G.: Oratorius D.I.G. That is very good.

Get rid of it completely. It screws up the scheduling. Another Bud Selig brainstorm. I think Selig is one of the worst baseball commissioners in history. He ignored steroid use when it turned home run records into a complete joke, and he has sat by and watched out-of-control salaries pretty much destroy any sense of competitive balance.

Utah in the Pac 10(12). Wow. I guess they really wanted that 12th member for a playoff. Good for the Utah. The Big 12 must have given up on Texas changing its mind any time in forseeable future. I can't imagine the Big Ten inviting any non-BCS school to join. I can't even think of who would even be considered. And if Texas stays in the Big 12, so does everyone else. The school that stands to benefit the most from how things worked out for the Big 12 is probably Houston. They've got to be looking to add teams to make up for the two who left and Houston has to be at or near the top of the list. Mack Rhoades is thinking big right now. .
-
The Big Ten operated quite well for a long time with 11 teams, so I'm not so sure the Pac 10 needs to add anyone else right now. Utah would make sense, but after Texas turned them down, I'm not sure they want to go that route. Having to settle for Utah after coveting Texas would be a huge downgrade. It would be great for Utah, but what would Utah bring that would benefit the Pac 10? Not much. My guess is that at some point in the reasonably near future Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers will end up in the Big Ten, and then the cream of what's left of the Big East will merge with the ACC to create a new mega-conference.

News reports say that Texas is staying in the Big 12, along with Texas A&M. That's probably it for the BCS shake-up, at least for this year.

You're right. I'm not sure where I got that information. I could have sworn I read that somewhere--I must be spending too much time around Airport KC on the MAC forums. You read the same thing I did, but interpreted it differently. I read as they were fine with Nebraska, but they were split on letting in certain other schools with weaker academics than the Cornhuskers. The Big Ten is not going to accept any school that is not a member of the American Assoication of Universties. Google it and look at the member institutions. They only want schools with similar academics and endowments. I should qualify that statement: Notre Dame is not a AAU member, but if ND ever wanted into the Big Ten, I'm sure they's be accepted in a NY minute. If the Big 12 implodes, which it probably will, Missouri is the team that gets screwed. They have got nowhere to go.

Clue: The article cites Norman Chad as a source. No. It is not serious.

The doors really aren't locked, it's said that for a week but they dont actually lock the doors. Btw, a few hours ago I was playing a few pickup games in Memorial and Quincy Diggs came in and shot around for a while. Looks like he has a nice shot and a decent wingspan for his size. He was a little shy but very friendly as well. I know a few other ZN.o members were there playing and say him there too. Yep, I saw him there too. He said it's cold up here(wait til winter). A pick-up player told him he should go to Akron when he was shooting around at a different hoop(Diggs was wearing a Wichita State shirt), and Diggs says he does and he transferred. He's got a big wingspan like RootforRoo44 said, and he looks like he's a better shooter than Hitchens, maybe even better than Brett McKNight or even Steve McNees. +1 I haven't seen him shoot...but I mean any D-1 player is gonna knock down his shots with no one on him haha. We'll see how he fares against, you know, defenders. Hopefully he can step in and contribute at that 3 spot. I have a deadly outside shot ... as long as nobody defends me.

Yes, George Wallace lived on the 10th floor of Bulger Hall and gave comedy shows for dormies in Robertson Hall and Dan Moldea was president of Associated Student Government (ASG) I knew both George and Dan when they were in school. George was very funny and Dan was very serious.

I do agree with you that people from SE Ohio should not have to travel to NE Ohio for a championship game. Columbus is the place that makes sense.
