  1. i'm thinking Can't will not be ranked too high this season because of their opening blowout loss to minnesta, which is a team that is 0-4 in the big ten and 2-5 overall, beating only Can't and temple. give Can't credit. it hurts to say it, but they look good. in particular, their quarterback has done a fantastic job.this is shaping up to be a weak year for mac football, when the best team is topping out at 53. that's embarrassing but hard to argue with. doesn't the conference get three bowl bids this year? if so, that third team is going to be pretty lame.
  2. i just checked the cbs sportline website and there is no listing for akron in any of their top 25 polls, even for teams outside the top 25 but getting votes. akron was not ranked in the ap poll, the coaches poll, or the sportsline website poll. the rpi ranking lists akron at #66.why the sportsline magazine would rank them at #20 is a mystery to me. even as a fan, its hard justifying this team being ranked that high before it has proven itself.btw, nevada is ranked #20 in the ap poll, so beating them would get some attention. Can't got a few votes in the coaches poll.
  3. without knowing the facts of the case other than what's on this board, if this is igor's first offense and its a misdemeanor assault charge, and there was no significant injury inflicted on the other guy, the case could end up being dismissed with upon completion of some type of anger management counseling and payment of medical bills, if there were any.its hard to imagine him being kicked out of of school or dropped from the team over a misdemeanor. felony assault would be another matter.a civil case would be unlikely unless the other guy incurred signifciant injury. no lawyer would want the case. its good to see that jd took immediate action. it sends a message. unlike what has happened at ou, where an entirely different message has been given to their players.
  4. i'm old enough to remember leonard paul. athough i have not thought about him in years, the mention of his name brought back some great memories from old memorial hall. as i recall, he was a smooth ballhandler, a very good outside shooter, and he could drive to the basket with ease. he was a joy to watch and good enough to carry the team on his back, when needed. i'm not sure if he was the best to ever play at akron because i've been out of the area for some time, but he certainly should be on anyone's all-time zips basketball team.
  5. poor charlie. i hope it doesn't screw up his head.
  6. just checked cbssportsline - 22-7, Can't.
  7. thanks, uakronkid. your posts are much appreciated. please, somebody, keep us fans who are unable to see or hear the game updated as to what's going on.
  8. Halftime: Can't 21, BGSU 3. WHAT THE ... ???!!!
  9. i see someone finally got wikipedia edited to show jim tressell as a ua grad. thanks.
  10. the rubber bowl is the biggest stadium in the mac at 31,000. everyone else is in the 24-30,000 range. i'm not 100% sure, but i think that most c-usa schools are in the 30-40,000 range and big east stadiums are 40,000+ , with maybe an exception or two. the artist's rendering is bland, but this is obviously the stadium in its earliest conception and the final result is likely to be significantly different. it does look high school-ish, though. please - let's not build fawcett stadium-north.that said, the design firm looks like a quality outfit, so i'm still hopeful this will turn out well. it sounds like the time-frame is being pushed back quite a bit.
  11. a dispute over a woman, says the news.
  12. the RB's capacity has been listed in the past at 35,202, but the past few years has been listed at 31,000. i thought the covering of the end-zone seats was the reason for the reduction in listed seating capacity.
  13. jd doesn't seem to be the "hired gun" type. money is not the end-all and be-all to him. if he has the kind of continued success here that we are confident he will, he will leave. that's the nature of the business. but it will be for what he considers the right situation. he's not going to jump ship for the first big-time program that wants him. i see him here for another 2 years. and when he does leave, akron will be on top and good candidates will be lined up for the job. has akron had a football or basketball head coach in the last 30 years that moved on to better things? i think they've all been fired.
  14. for those who could not see the game (such as me), you can check out you tube under "nc state vs. akron ending" for replays of the getsy run and the kennedy run. given these replays, i don't think there is any way the replay officials would have or should have overruled the calls on the field. that's not to say that either call was necessarily correct, just that the video does not show either call to be definitively wrong.
  15. i just read the raleigh newspaper's online story about the game and they quoted a NCST linebacker talking about getsy's performance on the last drive, "that is one of the most composed quarterbacks i've ever seen."
  16. That is correct.
  17. did they mention seating capacity?
  18. i'm thinking it will be more like NCS by 5 or 6.
  19. the people who took akron at 17 and-a-half are probably pretty ticked-off about that missed extra point.
  20. these missed tackles on punt returns are killing us!!!!
  21. give credit to psu. they are big and fast. they are stuffing the run and they blitz very effectively. these guys deserve their ranking.
  22. The biggest difference between a MAC school like Akron and a powerhouse like PSU is depth. PSU can substitute freely as the game goes on and not lose much. That's why a team like Akron might be able to hang in there for a while, but as the game goes on the disparity in depth almost always makes the difference.I think UA has a chance, but only if they play an almost flawless game and PSU comes out flat for whatever reason (overconfidence?). My biggest cause for hope is Brookhart's coaching. He'll have them ready. Just a thought, but Paterno will probably retire in a few years and I wonder if he could possibly end up at Penn State if he continues to have success at Akron, which I think he will.
  23. What Buckzip said.
  24. Toledo 24, PSU 6. It should have been a shut out in 2000. A MAC team DOMINATED the Nittany Lions. Don't be too cocky.
  25. marshall was 13-0 in 1999, including an easy win over brigham young in the MCB, so its a safe bet they finished in the top 25. i miss having them in the MAC. they had some nice rivalries, including miami and toledo. plus, the game where akron had the miracle comeback in the rubber bowl against marshall was a great game to watch. that might have been charlie frye's greatest moment. espn made that an instant classic.
