Just adding my post to confirm that I also feel that

if you guys are talking about this girl with the dark hair about 12 years old(??), she was halarious!!!! She was screaming "K.e.n.t. state sucks!" Just as loud as everyone else!!!!

The thing I find interesting is that Can't State would have to of had the blessing from the UofA to use the licensed logo. Apparently they allowed it. But they are so stingy with other merchandise in the stores? I have spoken with many shop owners around the area that carry college gear. Several have told me that UA is not very easy to work with at all when it comes to licensing.

Understand this: If an official spent the entire game looking at player's feet, they would never see a single foul since 99% occur above the waist. Traveling is called when the movement warrants it. If an official is on top of the play (as this one was) he will not be looking at the player's feet. If he is farther away, chances are the feet will be in his field of vision. As I said before, this guy was screened and should have never made the call.Oh, and by the way, while we are letting you in on a few "secrets": it's not "3-seconds".....it is a "lane violation" which in reality is about 5-6 seconds. I chuckle to myself when I hear the fans counting "1-2-3!". I especially love it when the count continues after a shot was attempted (if you don't get that last part, read a rule book!)

Ziprowdy, that's the easiest one to explain: he simply got the directions mixed up. It happens to me a few time a season. You know exactly which TEAM gets the ball, but for a split second you lose which direction. Honest mistake. It happens all of the time. Unless you live your life wearing an aluminum foil hat, that is the most likely explaination.

Timmy, from what I could see on the two different replay angles, you have an excellent arguement there. The fould occured with the Can't players left hand smacked Dials in the face. Everyone was in position to make the call. They missed it.As for the shoulder, I don't remember. I would have to see it.As for holding your whistle, I may not have been clear enough in my previous post. My point is that in real time, the official DID react in time without holding his his whistle. The play happened in about 2.5 seconds total. You can't really hear the whistle too well on TV and it take more reaction time to raise your hand. The whistle came and then you saw the hand go up. In my opinion, his reaction time was fine. Just crummy luck on the end of the play if you are a Zips fan.

OK, I try to post objective opinions about the officiating. I know they are rarely popular here (the officials And my opnions! ). I want to preface this by saying that there is no way I could be 100% objective last night being a true Zips fan. I will cover two that stand out in my mind. There were many more, but I don't have the time to type them all!The Traveling Call:The call was made by the Trail official. It was in his primary. If you watch the replay on TV, you will see that he was screened by a Can't player and there is no way possible to make a 100% accurate call. In that situation, ESPECIALLY under 2:00 minutes to go in a tight game, most officials will tell you the correct thing for him to do was to pass on the call. If it truely was a travel, it would have been picked up by the Lead official (on the baseline) as that would be in his secondary. Since the play occurred very near the "boundary" between each official's primary and secondary, it is likely that both officials would have seen the play. Bottom line: bad call. The official should have passed and relied on his partner if a call was at all necessary.Wood Getting shoved out of boundsI've heard from a few people regarding the "late" call that had Wood getting shoved out of bounds. This occurred when he was displaced going for a rebound and Travis ultimately get the ball for a dunk. The complaints I have heard are that the call came way too late and shouldn't have been called because it takes away the dunk. There are a couple of things to consider: first, if you watch the play develop in real time on TV, the official actually blew the whistled and motioned juest BEFORE the dunk occurred. Now, I appreciate the arguement that they should have held the whistle. Officials are trained to hold just a split second to let the play develop, but if you see how badly he was displaced, most should agree that it was an obvious foul. Now, if the official doesn't make that call, then it would be expected that they not make that call at the other end of the court. More importantly, when those calls don't come, the players usually try to "even the score" themselves. That means anothe foul, technical foul, ejection, injury, etc. In my opinion, it sucks that it took away two points, but it was the correct call in that particular situation.Any others?

Ok, well answer this: was there really 15 and Moses dropped the third tablet??!

I stand corrected!!!But I couldn't pass up that chance to poke at our age!!

Unlimited WASTED potential!Do they still 'cart tapes'? I think it is all digital now my friend!

I will not be renewing my Zips Live subscription for next year and I will offer an explaination as to why to the University. I can't see laying $50 for something most other universities offer for free or MUCH cheaper.Highlights seem like a no-brainer to me too! Use your resources at the U. There are radio and TV production classes. Outside of concerns for quality, why not work with respective instructors to provide these highlights post-game? Imagine the incentive for the students as this would be a nice resume item!

All of that sucks!

I sent him an email thanking him for the message. I asked him why no story on Dru/Rome and if it was commonplace for universities to send footage if a game isn't carried by TV. Here is his response:We didn’t have highlights…because the weather took our camera last night…We will do the Romeo and Drew story over the next few days….U of A..doesn’t provide it. The only reason OU does, is because they have a very good TV program and an uplink. They are not really near a tv market. Columbus is as close as it gets. So they feel out highlights after every game. Thanks for Watching tonight…I tried to give you guys some love…AB

I saw it too. They did a mediocre summary of what is happening. Again no zips footage, but at least Baskin mentioned the passionate Zips fans that emailed him all day about not mentioning anything last night.Still no mention of local heros Joyce and Travis.

Here is my response from Andy:I had a shooter going down to your game. The weather took the shooter away. The only reason I had Can't Highlights is because Ohio University put them up on the bird. I’m not sure if you noticed…I only had 2 minutes for sports I normally have 4. You know I am a zips fan. Brian and I will have something in Sports Tonight. AndyI'll be watching tonight.Channel 19 is good for pr0n and tabloid stories. If that is what you are into, then that is your station. My argument to Andy that he didn't address is that they are the only Akron news station with Channel 23 downtown. I don't care how bad the weather is, they couldn't have one guy from Akron at the game? Unless they have no full time camera folks in Akron and it is all shot be Cleveland guys.I agree with the early post: even if it was shortened and the other clips were easier to obtain, a mention in the throw-back would have been better than nothing!
-
Sure, but you know that the AD and the broadcasters don't seem to care about what the fans want, only what they THINK the fans want. Better to find your own bandaid for the problem.
-
LOL! I emailed Andy Baskin within minutes of the broadcast! Here is his email: andybaskin@wkyc.com

Oh, you are not right!

Someone posted this over on UofAZIPS.com. Pretty interesting.http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07055/764729-66.stm

Man I hope you meant that sarcastically. Otherwise, that is a sad testament to parenting.

Well, we have a potentially difficult road game on Monday against Duquesne. Buffalo isn't a roll over and die team either. Oh, and there's this POS team down the road in Can't coming soon. We better figure out how to win on the road soon. I doubt they will bring every round of the NCAA Tourney and the MAC Tourney to the JAR.

What I have determined is the KD has a bit more control of when the interview portion of the post-game show occurs. They kinda have to stick with what he wants since they don't want to hold him up. there have been times where he came out faster than they expected and other times when he talks a bit more with the guys and Stevie has to stretch a bit.The post game show is streamed on GoZips for those of us who subscribe. Since I travel a lot during the week, I am usually listening/watching over the web. I heard the entire post game show (unfortunately ) after the Miami game this past week. One suggestion: take a small radio to the game. I usually have an earpiece in one ear listening to the radio broadcast. I never miss the post game walking back to the deck 'cause I gots me radio!

.....however you haven't seen it much this year because the new "regime" doesn't like. Of course, because it's good, popular and an overwhelming majority like it, the Athletic department has to pull it/limit it's use. Is it really that hard when it comes to marketing??
-
I'm not so sure about that eventual successor thing but "the game II of III" should be a dandy. Our FT shooting stinks, your FT shooting stinks. If UA would have knocked a few FT's down during the course of the season they may be ranked. The stretch run will be fun to watch. Playing in Athens is always a treat (as UA can attest). I look forward to 3/4/07. I just hope our teams are not. That's a great quote for any coach or parent who wants to impress upon a child the importance of practicing this fine skill in the driveway. You easily could argue that FT's were the difference between wins and loss and ranked and un-ranked.
