  1. Good for Irv.........and hopefully others will follow..............how about Brandon? This game is made for him. How about Ritley? He's local...........Adamson going to QB? That would be super...............more Mount guys also Can't State too! Buzz is.............42's had 10 to 15 concussions and has a couple bulging disks.............he left all he had on the rug in the Bowl.............
  2. That was great........... Congrats and continued best wishes to 5 and his family........... Several thoughts...........the announcers had a yuck about 5's answering a question about dating........that he really didn't have a serious lady..............guess they can't "read" a guy like they get credit for as interviewers..........5's all about FB and getting better at it.........25 or 26 hours a day and 8 or 9 days a week ..............everything else is second place.............then comes his family followed by all the rest. He'll have plenty of company from members of the opposite sex whenever he chooses too It pisses me off, but I've got to learn to pay no attention to Kypers rankings.......Hey Mel, did you see the game? Some guys are best in "game action"..........I could name more of them but what the hell.........Hey Mel..........who was voted team captain? Never mind...........it doesn't really matter in the end. I liked that Auburn QB also. That Miami of Ohio DB got toasted a couple times..........you guys see that? QB's couldn't take shotgun snaps or run the ball..............two of Superman's favorites......guess Mel K doesn't know about that either. I jumped out of my chair a couple times during the game on his plays........and something occurred to me at those moments "hey Z-P (that's my real name ) from now on, for probably the next 10 or 12 years, you will be blasting out of your seat watching NFL games on Sunday following this young man's career"................and that gave me a real warm fuzzy. I still hope he gets drafted into a program where he can learn and develop slowly.....guys get wrecked when they're thrown into action too young..... Thanks for more memories Charlie!
  3. All-Star Games are tough to accomplish anything in. Short field time, choked down offenses and defenses, new systems......on and on..........it's just a b tch to accomplish much on the field in the game. I'm pretty sure the real action and story unfolds in the workouts and practices where the NFL Scouts are really doing their homework.............. I'm just tossing this out to try and keep my slug buddies from blowing up too much about the game and whatever happens in it................however, it will be good to see him representing his uni and mates in a premier national FB event. Go 5!
  4. Thanks for the shout, and luv that avatar. OTR next weekend unfortuntely. Want my ducket? I'm kicking myself for missing Ohio, but you know me, I can't miss playoff FB when it's the greatest weekends of the year. (EMU) I'm around...........and a big KD fan.............nm, thanx
  5. You guys have all spoken my mind with the exception of one thing......... Here's the dealio.............last season I was super geeked to see our "All MAC" back court return and dominate. Know what I mean? I was just sure Johnny would blow up and Tarver would be.............well.............Tarver. What happened? Johnny blew up alright, he disappeared. Tarver's "ways" sucked and the program proceeded to put me to sleep. No "year to year" interest. To keep fans coming back, you have got to have players who can "roll" year after year. I thought Dru would do that and he's broken my heart again. On the FB side, we knew Matt Cherry would be better and better year after year and he was. Ditto for Superman. That keeps fans coming back and enthused. Schifino and Lavel got better and better (except for Jakes Sr injury).............Butchie got better and better.........that's what's lacking in the UA BB Program right now..............at least IMHO. Sad to say, and I'm embarrassed to admit this (but we're among friends).........I'm not even sure if I want to make the effort to go tonite...........and I'm the kind of sports fan who should never be in that frame of mind over his Uni. To me, the roots (short as they may be) and continuity of top echelon sports lies with the continued high level of support and boosting by The Boss and UAM. Yaaaaaaaaaawn....................
  6. That was a pretty good read Jr.............nice catch.
  7. Oops............... Point taken, and undestood...............and apologized for. Substitute "different" for "better" and that gets to where I was going with that comment, My bad...........
  8. We've come thru "an era". I think it could be accurately called the build up to......... and era of....................Paul Winter's offenses. Wasn't Paul the OC who slotted Butchie at trigger? Didn't he recruit Jake, Rit, Lavel and the other sticky fingered cats behind them? I'll always remember Butchie's long balls to Lavel. He threw soooooo high......a much taller ball than Superman threw...........but maybe not quite as hard. Then Bailey would all of a sudden appear under them at the right moment.............you guys remember that. His O Line was pretty damn good too. How about Zac? How the hell did he not make the Sunday League? Anyway, the entire offensive side of the game has been damn good for 7 or 8 years. JD's now got the reigns. He's brought his guy (Getsy) with him, so it will really be his team in 05...............I can't wait to "go horse" shouting in the stands again next season. GP1 .........lots and lots of those guys could have gone elsewhere and had better educations than they got at UA (many had the smarts and financial capabilities to go wherever they wanted).............they chose to play for us because of the coaches mostly...........or gee, was it the bowl, practice facilities or beautiful campus? Let's give Paul some love once in a while. He deserved it.
  9. Johnny H (v. 1.0)
  10. This thread is a spoof isn't it? Cap'n is really Ryan right? Happy April Fools day right?
  11. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my slug buddies............. Screw being PC...........if the Merry Christmas doesn't apply to you, kindly just let it pass, and accept a "Happy New Year" You guys (and sometimes gals) all contribute to making my day a little briter! MC & HNY to little M also .............and all the slug wifies
  12. Finally? Thanks for showing up this season, but THE BOSS has been scheduling bigtime for his entire tenure here.........look at 2002. BTW, we'll arrange for you to meet some of the guys from the old teams who didn't play hard. They'll enjoy the opportunity to shake your hand.
  13. Hey Guys.............. Let's not get too geeked up and noisy about this draft status thing. Are you wanting him to go first for you (selfishly so you can brag to buddies) or for him? I say let him get passed over for a while before being picked. I think a player can be set up for disaster by thinking too highly of himself (courtesy of all the yes men surrounding him all the time) or expecting too much. I remember comments out of Big Ben's possee last year that he got "bummed out" and pissed when he was passed over for Phillip and Eli. Now look how stupid a thought that turned out to be. Superman will be selected. I for one hope it's not to high or too early. High and early carries with it a load of expectations and demands upon a guy like Tim Couch experienced and may have led to his early crash. Here's to a big payday, a nice team giving him the chance to further develope and a real shot in his second or third year. And here's to him staying healthy for a change!
  14. "Pro" observation Cap. As a unit, non's more important on a team than the O-line. Nothing works if they don't "Git-Er-Dun". I've got to admit that I've been surprised Uecker didn't do a better job developing these guys than he did with their predecessors. Maybe he got "flat" about his job like I think the whole (previous) staff did. I know he can do it............and he should have had these guys tuned up and performing. Looking back at the split to Ashland and Wayne, maybe Paul and Uecker wanted the ground attack, and Lee, Stacey and (who coached wideouts?) wanted the spread air attack.......... I think the Payne-Hendry-Biggs chain of backs has been a pretty good one. Each was different in a way, and each was effective. Hendry and Biggs would have looked even been better with more effective line play. Brandon had the benefit of that great O-line his frosh, soph and junior years. As far as big competition production which you brought up, I think Hendry had 110 against Wisconsin or something like that. I seem to recall Brandon and Bobby with fair averages at Ohio State...............Bobby had about 100 against Virginia...........he didn't play at Maryland or Iowa. Both of those guys did pretty well in big venues....................so I was surprised at your analysis of this past year. I still say that our destiny was cast in the summer of 03 when the previous staff bailed on any kind of O-line run blocking schemes and practice. I personally heard players talk about how at camp that summer, they did NO run blocking at all. Everything was that mess to accomodate the stable of receivers and Charlie. That was what killed us last year, and it probably hurt our guys (O-line) this year because they missed out on a whole season of training so to speak. I only bring up the past because it effected us this season IMHO on the O-line. Where's "The Dude" for an opinion here? And another thing.............man I hope the Browns don't get hold of Charlie. They really have a way of wrecking a QB. I'm totally looking forward to next season. I've got faith in this crew and admin. They'll be earning their ticket to a bowl real shortly.
  15. Couple quickies from me.......... 1. First 7 minutes of the game..........I'm like "what the hell, no problem, KD's just sorting things out until he finds the right combo"..........last season I would have been slitting my wrists due to "an insurmountable lead" by Duquene. Big difference this season........... 2. Is it just me, or have any of you guys EVER seen a coach spend so much physical energy coaching? I mean he has a hard case of "CM" (constant motion)...... 3. I had to split at the half, so never saw the backend of the game, but I left knowing we would find a way to win it...........even thought they closed out the first period making us look a little bad in clock management skills............. "The KD Way" gittin er done............. I'm luvin it..........
  16. On your letter to Nic. Really well done man!!!!
  17. nothing more to say...........
  18. GP............. Individual accolades are all about percieved team success. You can't get one without the other..............it's life in the big time. Charlie knows that..........the great ones all do, so they suck it up and move on. I'm sure he would thank you for your support, but life holds greater promise for him and his team mates than a "nod" from the MAC. nm
  19. First of all, if any of you don't...........or haven't.......been going to the games, get off your butts and get out. You will be highly entertained by the "New Gang". It might even be a good idea to pick up a season ducket or two, because by mid year, good seats may be difficult to come by. At least I hoop so! What a shock to see these guys 9 months into "The KD Way". Evidently "The KD Way" is to field guys who are "tight" and fast. Wood and Futch (in case you didn't get to see them last season) were just BIG guys last time I saw them play. Now, ( "The KD Way" ) they are BIG Guys with ZERO body fat, and FAST FAST FAST. They've transformed themselves into very athletic specimens to go with their strength and skills. BIG BIG difference. Dru is the QB out there (still), but has been replaced much of the time on point by a super speedy 5'5" Mario Collins.............Super Mario...........he never got to showcase his speed the way the old guy played the guys. He's got it to burn. Mario's relief of Dru allows him to go "Off" and find his 3 point launching zone. Looks like a good plan. There's a new "Baby Face" in town, glossed "Bubba" for some reason. Moeller's Walther is an interesting addition to the team. Man does he have reach. How did his mom ever find shirts to fit him? Size 13.5 neck and 38 inch arms Hampton was supposed to be "athletic and fast" (I hate it when guys use those bull$hitwords) and they were. Our guys didn't blink. Maybe even more "athletic and fast" than an "athletic and fast" team. More little Z-P notes.............. UAM called Hampton an "All Airport Team" Get it? Good one UAM Wow! On Steve's postgamer, KD gave credit to Shaka and to Terry for pushing him into making the subs that got the game turned back around our way (we got a little flat between 5 and 10 minutes into the second half)...............how about that? Gave his assts credit on the air .................that speaks volumes for KD and the future for us. Nuff said. ZW and I propped for a Zipsnation.org Banner, and it looks like we may have one coming. That would be fun...............cross your fingers.............if it happens, you mods need to be "on your toes" to blast the crap before it gets us in the doghouse. Just a great night............do yourself a favor, get out to the game with CSU on the 8th! You'll really enjoy it!!!! Zipball "The KD Way"
  20. Sluggies....... Here's an idea. Let's all hop over to the BB Board and get behind Coach KD and his guys now............. Went to my first of the season last night and was VERY VERY impressed. This crew has spent the offseason getting FIT & FAST!!! You should see how they run! You'll be blown away! I was So c'mon........go to the games, and carry on the rant over there! Hey ZW, how about popping up the BB boards to the top for the season? Only one problem................no Coors Tent
  21. Nice pikup ML..........thanks
  22. Easy there guys..............you'd better slow waaaaay down. Our "run" was against the bottom of the entire D1A Universe except for the Freday Night Shocker...........keep that in mind. Also, (somebody pointed this out in another thread) if we are being looked at for a bowl bid, it's because of 5, not our power rating............. Don't set yourself up for a big fall by placing too much on the new Staff's Back too early. Don't "Git Them Undies in a Bundle" just yet..............
  23. Well done CK............. Couple little add ons..............I 'm sure The Staff (big ups from over here ) considers the 05 season to have started on Sunday...........and this could not have been said in years past. Another thing to keep in mind............there is SERIOUS work to be done. They surely know this all too well. Our "run" was against the very bottom (excluding only WMU) of the MAC except for the Freyday Surprise. If we are to step on the field and compete with Toledo, NIU and BG we still have a loooooooooooooooong way to go IMHO. Credit the staff with creating a great game plan for Miami, and getting the MOST out of what they had to work with all year. So I too think things are looking pretty good. Regardless of the outcome (said this even before the game) it was great to have an "event" like Saturday night to attend. What fun!! I got a kick out of seeing UAM running around "like a mother hen" finally having all his hard work yield something to be so proud of. He was in constant motion all night long. I was really happy for him and The Boss. UAM even made a pass by all the "fence" area gaiters to say thanks for the support and loyalty.............what a classy cat. BTW, from the "Coors Seats" looking back into the stadium I was ready to call it a crowd of at least 20K. Man was I shocked at the 17.4 number that came out Sunday morning. Are you guys sure of that? Really? That was the biggest crowd I can ever remember (I missed the Freyday Night Massacre due to work) at the bowl for an Akron Football Game................however, I was in the "Coors Seats" and you know what that means One final observation........is it just me or did there seem to be a lot of kids at the game? I was shocked and pleasently surprised to see how many dads brought their young sons out to the game. That was super. Makes us crazies behave ourselves a little more, but that's OK. I'll take the tradeoff to develope young fans. Go Zips! On to BB now.............
  24. Retire the number 5 right now!!! We've just witnessed 4 unbelievable years of insurmountable QB play and leadership. Let's hang up his number and Superman T right the heck now! 3 time Captain, when will we ever see that again? I'm not sure.....maybe 30-40 school records? Top 5 all time in key national rankings, what else! Let's get the ground swell started right here, right now !!!!!!!
  25. The board hasn’t been overly mushy this week, and that’s perfect IMHO. Now I can sneak this in because the players are in their pre-game regimen and don’t have access to ZipNation………. First of all, GOOD LUCK & A “GIT –R-DONE!†to the team today. (Hey it worked last week didn’t it? ) Regardless of whether we post a W or an L today, guarantee one thing…there’s going to be one hell of a party tonite in Akron after this game. Hangovers and late git-ups will be the order of the day Sunday. MACC is 2 weeks off so “let er hang out tonite guys!â€. Here’s to the seniors! Hey, I would have liked a little better O-line play, and better D, but what the heck, I know you cats always did the very best you could for your Uni and your mates! The “Lord of the Boardâ€â€¦this Bud’s for Cap’n K. Even though his X-rated muppets are getting a little stale, he’s still THE MAN around here………..keep er goin Cap! This Z-P Bud’s for all my fellow BSr’s ( Board Slugz , BS git it?) We’re not many in number but we’re sure as hell passionate. Really looooooooved seeing Wadscarman come in with a good solid suggestion for a banner. He knows where he can come if he needs the jack to get it produced, so just ask…then do it! If UA’s going to be big league, it needs big league passionate fans. Big League passionate fans need a place to go to vent, meaning the Z/Nation.org should be part of the package...maybe they’ve decided “we aint so badâ€. BSr’s are small in number right now, but I’ll bet in 18-24 months we will explode in activity with Coach Dambrodt’s efforts and Coach B’s work… Hell, they’ll probably even forget that little JAR origination meeting ZW pulled together and took a collection at…so what, who cares, just let this dealio blow up so we can all have more fun. Here’s to Superman. I hope his wildest dreams are his MINIMUM achievements in the future. This guy has played his a$$ off for the Uni and his team mates for 5 years. I consider myself privileged to have witnessed it up close and personal. While I’m at it, this one’s for that possee of family, friends and extended family who have followed him all over the country for 4 years and been such great supporters and friends also. This afternoon, 85 guys will be suiting up for the thousands who have preceded them as players, coaches, staff and support personnel for the University of Akron. I would have mentioned this earlier in the week…but I knew it was unnecessary because I have the confidence in JD and his staff to have conveyed that message already. GO STAFF. Enough mush for now, I’m ready for some of Cap’s home brewski’s and a game! ILFSITF
