  1. Just tossing this out into the mix...................... We're talking about a young man, a great athletic talent, trying to see if he has a potential career (you know, making a livlihood for himself and his family?) in another sport like a great Can't State athlete before him has just demonstrated. Rome in the NBA? Who knows..........maybe Le told him to give FB a try.......... Again, it's a test to see if he's got a potential money making career in another field. Go for it T.............. Quit being selfish BB guys..........you're thinking only of yourselves and your fun for the next 24 months. Let him try this and see what can come of it.
  2. Here it be Mr. Newbie Browns may have to look at QBs Saturday, March 19, 2005 By STEVE DOERSCHUK Repository sports writer Is Alex Smith too young for the Browns to draft at No. 3 overall? Is the 20-year-old Utah quarterback too good to pass up at No. 1 overall when the 49ers kick off the NFL draft on April 23? Or is he a “tweener,†with the Dolphins zeroing in on Smith with the No. 2 overall pick? This much seems clear: Smith knocked some socks off with his Pro Day workout this week. One day later, California quarterback Aaron Rodgers aced his Pro Day. The result is that both players held their position as the top quarterbacks in the draft, and increased the chances they have moved into the Browns’ draft range. General Manager Phil Savage was in a large crowd of observers who watched Smith throw for 45 minutes. Anything Savage says can be viewed as posturing, but hear this. NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt, a former Cowboys personnel guru, came away from Salt Lake City with his mouth watering. “I’ve been to private workouts for decades,†Brandt said, “but this is the first time I can remember a player receiving a standing ovation. He was lights out.†Brandt said Smith dispelled concerns about being too ingrained in Urban Meyer’s shotgun system at Utah. “He made all the throws, three-step drops, five-step drops, play-action, deep passes, crossing routes, roll-outs, and, of course, deep routes,†Brandt said. One pass sailed 62 yards to a receiver on the goal line. Smith had dinner with a 49ers entourage that is looking for the next Joe Montana, or a sweet deal to trade down to another team that falls in love with Smith. Breakfast was with Dolphins General Manager Rick Spielman and Head Coach Nick Saban, who subsequently went over Utah game films with Smith. Quarterbacks have been the top picks of most recent drafts, including Peyton Manning in 1998, Tim Couch in 1999, Michael Vick in 2001, David Carr in 2002, Carson Palmer in 2003 and Eli Manning in 2004. Savage went from Utah to Berkeley, Calif., where Rodgers conducted his Pro Day workout Thursday. Savage could not be reached, but Rodgers said the Browns invited him to Ohio for a personal interview. According to Brandt, Rodgers’ workout was similar in quality to Smith’s. “It’s a two-horse race for the top quarterback,†Brandt said. “Before this week, it was debatable if a quarterback should be taken at No. 1 overall. Now, it’s looking more and more like a good idea.†After his Thursday workout, Rodgers told reporters, “I think I showed the accuracy, arm strength and fundamentals you can see on film, and just reassured the teams I am as good as they think I am on film.†It is known Savage would choose a quarterback at No. 3 if the Browns conclude that QB had a draft grade in that neighborhood. The buzz is that the grades are settling in the neighborhood for Smith or Rodgers, and perhaps both. n WASHINGTON WELCOME: Courtney Brown visited the Redskins at their team facility Thursday, but left without signing a contract. “We had a good visit.†Head Coach Joe Gibbs told Washington writers. “He took a physical. We’ll just work through the rest of it. I don’t think there’s anything imminent.†Brown’s former Penn State teammate Brandon Noble, now a Washington player, made a recruiting pitch to the defensive end. The Browns, Bucs, Seahawks and Broncos are the other teams with the most apparent interest in Brown. NFL notebook n The Jets traded middle linebacker Sam Cowart to the Minnesota Vikings for a seventh-round pick in this year’s draft. Cowart saw his playing time diminish in 2004 after a knee injury knocked him out for an extended period and rookie Jonathan Vilma emerged as a standout player. After the season, Cowart asked for a trade when it became clear he wouldn’t have much of a role with the Jets. n The Steelers restructured the contract of left tackle Marvel Smith to free up $2.55 million in salary cap space. Smith will be paid the minimum-wage base salary of $540,000 in 2005 instead of the $3.95 million in salary he had been due. n Linebacker Keith Adams agreed to a one-year contract with the Eagles following a season in which his career-high 54 tackles helped Philadelphia reach the Super Bowl. n Jaguars linebacker Tommy Hendricks was charged with violating a restraining order taken out by his former wife. 10. Wow............. I've had a couple ocassions to speak with him, and I LOVE that guy. After the famous Byron Leftwich Injury game at the bowl, I was standing on the field (with lots of other people) fully 20 minutes after the game was done and he comes walking by. I said something to the effect of "one hell of a game coach" or something vanilla like that..........he came to a complete stop and looked me right in the eye and said "credit to your Team", "they played thier asses off and deserved this win tonite"..........my mouth went dry and I couldn't speak.............thought to myself, this is really a super guy, and how the hell can he be composed like that. I saw him a second time after they beat us in WV the next year. Simply said "Hi Coach" and he stopped sort of patted me on the shoulder and smiled and said "that's one hell of a QB you guys have".................see what I mean. That kind of stuff is what made him so popular.............what a gentleman. That's my take...............I wish him well, and will never forget him.
  11. What really turned around the 04 season? Guys buying into the new system? Running the players guts out before the season? Genius of the staff? Is it possible the Seniors took over the team after the 4th game and willed them forward? Most specifically the OL (dissed as much as they were), Superman, and Blackey? I've heard some interesting buzz recently, and while I'm all Staff, Plan and Direction Oriented, all of a sudden, I'm not so sure credit went where it was deserved. Time will tell.............. Check it our for yourselves if you can..................but you probably can't. nm ILFSITF

  17. Most everything's been said above me.............. However, I want to apologize for an earlier post this season when I commented that the reason this team isn't getting more support is the lack of a "superstar".......a "point man" that everyone can hang on like Tarver.............. Man oh man was I a dufuss. Dambrot is a genius. He's not going to let any one guy become that type of focus...........he's more like Bill Bellichick with "Team" as the focus..............guys, I apologize...........now I get it.I've followed BB for probably 43 years, and I have never seen a coach get so much out of so many different guys..............KD is really sumthin. I've got a question maybe someone else can answer for me..........Rick transfered after his 1st year at OSU right? He was there on an FB scholarship, right? He sat a year and now he's played 3 on the BB Team for us.............is he a 5th year senior? What classes does he take? I heard him interviewed last night after the game, and he sounded like a real together young man...........is he already in Grad School? Ups to the cameraman who got clocked by Bubba's launch.............poor guy had his specks blasted...............but he sucked it up and hung in there. Is is just me or does anyone else see Matt F try and use one arm to rebound...........C'mon Matt! You're so big and strong, go up with two! You can pick up your game if you'll just do that!
  18. Not to sound too negative, but what did JD really accomplish? Let's see next year and in two years........... Luv him...........but it's too early yet for an Oscar IMHO On the other hand..........THE BOSS..............gets and Oscar and an Emmy!
  19. GP1.......... "Helping" includes educating and everything else a University provides a community......i.e., the Arts @ EJT etc......... I didn't say "Giving the athletes a chance to play" that's only part of a University's responsibilities to it's community.......again, IMHO. "Shop here first" for athletes.............again, IMHO. Can't you guys let go of Lee Owens? C'mon.............it's reeeeeeeally getting old GP.............my man, go back and check rosters for "local" guys and you'll see we weren't OVERPOPULATED with them in the past. I'm just saying for my tax buck, I think the coaches should LOOK locally first.................let me back up a bit...........you calling Superman a "local"????? How far away is far away here????? Maybe we are on the same page after all. I'm still saying "NICE JOB THIS MORNING TP".........that's all.
  20. Got to give it up for T Pluto this morning..........that was a NICE piece in the ABJ. I especially like his "local" props..........someone needs to be "point" about getting local guys the opportunity to play D1A................isn't that what a "local" University is for? Helping "local" constituents? Just MHO..........
  21. This is a game I can finally make, so I'll catch you guys there.......

  25. KK said......."P.S. More of you zip fans need to stop by Macbbs, as you are a minority when it comes to frequent visits there. Here, you can find out more on the growth of the MAC conference as well as OU's advancements in athletics and academics. " Kit..........we're all there, it's just that the bbs is turning into a private chit chat board between about 6 or 7 "regulars". It's "burned out" on interesting reading and seems confined to "cracking" between these guys............. You fix it up and we'll all jump (back) in...............at least the few of us who have been involved in the past......... BTW, ignore those flammers and thanks for the visit.
