  1. To the guys who went, thanks for the reports. We've always seemed to "play to the level of our competition".............know what I mean? Example..........we played at the level of NIU until we figured they were "soft" then the avalanche hit us. We opened the first half vs CMU like we were playing NIU and when we figured "we had em" and started playing at their level, they ate us alive. We go into Buffalo every frikin time for the past 7 years and figure it's a day off. Then we almost get bit................... This is a tune that gets played by UA over and over and over. I also know and understand what I just said is a cliche, but as an observer without much inside information, all I can offer is my opinion. Another thing that rags me while I'm on the topic,......and I'm guilty of doing it too,...............is to prop a guy before his record is history. The only way we can tell the quality of the man is to look at his record over the long run. Jury's still out on this whole team and the staff. We're only half way thru the season.
  2. That was fun (joining the thread)...............thanks guys..............see you later! ILFSITF
  3. Told you so! Gawd................I never thought I'd live long enough to see an Akron Defense win a game!
  4. It's OK, we got em just where we want em................playing in front of our defense! Cmon guys! You can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No prevent!
  5. Ya just can't depend on anything Frenchie says...............let's see what happens here with the fumble
  6. C'mon Billy kill one right now!
  7. I agree with Stams ( like him BTW)................give it to the defense, they'll carry us over
  8. It's looking like BB is just clearly better than Kennedy, headache or not...........
  9. Guys................ I just joined you.......... This is the UConn game of 2 years ago all over..............
  10. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm nm
  11. Funny Story............. I do a lot of business in the Buffalo area, so my car almost knows it's own way. Back in 99, they opened their new stadium. It really is nice..........so I drove up all by myself to see the Zips (and Butchie) play........this is where it gets sort of funny........hang on.............I asked where the visiting team busses came in so I could stand there with all the other Zip fans and wave at the guys as they came in and unloaded (pretty naive eh?)............it's on the west side at about the center backside of the stadium...........so I stood there, all by myself for about 15 minutes..........nothing, nobody...........so I figured I was probably in the wrong place cause nobody else was there.....................I was just about ready to leave, when the busses pulled up and drove right in front of me................like the dufuss I am, I waved and jumped around as they honked their horns for one lowly fan.............(3 busses) and they guys laughed and laughed.............here's one diehard fan all decked out in yellow and blue waving at them coming in to Buffalo.............must have been a shock. Where were the parents? Here's the kicker, and a lesson for UAM if we ever get an on campus stadium..........if memory serves me correctly, that was the first league game of the season...........and most likely the first home game for UB................so what they did was to force the students out of the dorms to eat, because the mealservice in the dorms was shut down and dinner was served at the stadium before the game................and they let us in and eat for virtually nothing also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All you had to do was tell them you were an opposing players parent (obviously we had the colors on) and we got the dorm resident deal. So all the traveling Zip parents were over there with a feedbag on! Rest of the story as Paul Harvey says.................the stadium was really packed for about the first half................then it fell back to a couple thousand fans But at least they tried. Now, I can't go this weekend, but if anyone has the time and an inkling of desire, do it. The drive is easy and the stadium can be seen right from 290 bypass north..........hell, I'll bet if you grovelled around you'd probably even get someone to pass you a free ticket. There's not a bad seat in the house either..............the higher up in the stadium you can go, the better the view. I really liked that place. Parking is super close, and there's plenty of it................sort of like at BG. Just an FYI about Buffalo.................. Oh, one more thing, everyone please leave the Cap'n alone now...............that's about enough of that crap. IMHO he's the biggest and best fan UA has and ever could attain............we're lucky he's around town................but he's got some shaky friends like Doc however....................
  12. Hey ITZ.............. Easy there buddy. Not so personal. Besides, only a few of the "hackers" were raggin. Better go back and take a count on how few the guys are in number who lit you up, and review. Seriously................relax. Only a few guys flamed out. The rest of us are in with "content" and opinion.............don't let a guy or two get you bent. Many of us have been in here 4-5 years or more. This was nuthin! ZFF used to have a little "Blue" board that really got wild...........ask him about it. If you think this action is "hot" you should have seen it at the end of the season 3 or 4 years ago! I like your posts (well, this one not so much ) so don't get mad........... BTW, Cap'n's right.................10K solid with no free seats may not be that bad for a game # two historically.................but it still makes me sick. Back to the news for a minute..............I wondered about BB. Unfortunately, I have some experience around guys with concussions, and when I noticed him getting up with the help of 2 guys (instead of one) and saw him wobble, I predicted it to the guy I was with who is another "experienced" concussion cat. Now that the "cat's out of the bag" so to speak, about a concussion, you'll get a look at how the staff "works" the deal. NCAA "guidelines" say 7 full days no contact with the 1st, and that will take him past Buffalo................so we'll see. If he gets a 2nd, it's 14 days, and a 3rd he's done for the season. Hell of a little baller..............man I hate to see him go down. Getsy is tough. I really like him...............a lot. He needs help, just like Charley did. I've read where CMU wanted to work him to the edges, and thought he was weak throwing on the run..............well.............he can work on that.............and unfortunetly he's going to have to with the young line in front of him. Know what I noticed for the first time Saturday night? BB is turning out to be a great little blocker. He was cutting those guys left and right, and successfully. I didn't see him doing that very often last season. He must have worked on it. Back to the scrambling.............Charlie wasn't always as skillful on the run as he turned out to be either..........he had to learn the skill, and he did a great job of it. Getsy can also. I'm in the camp with the guys who would have liked to see Ferggie in there also, just to spell Getsy and help out if his hand was all that bad. One more thing before I forget: From those of us who have attended games at the RB with only a couple thousand fans on hand, Zone, I think I can represent...........and tell you that..............no, the players would not like to look up and see a virtually empty stadium.
  13. It's the MAC guys...............you can never relax or let up. That includes next week at Buffalo. Some of the most bazaar games over the past 10 years or so have been against the Michigan teams. Last time we played these guys, Superman set a one game record of 400 and some yards. Hendry rushed for well over 100 yards, and it was still a ball game to the end. Think about the 5 OT game at the Bowl vs a very lowly EMU team 4 or 5 years back. That's what I mean. By the end of his run, at least one lesson LO had learned was to keep on keeping on when you are in a MAC game. I know what we are going to hear all week from the staff and players.........they'll be wringing their hands saying "hell no! we didn't let up"................but I know what I saw. It looked like we could have our way and then someone "called the dogs off" until we paniced again in the 3rd...............and we looked like shit from that point forward. I feel bad for Getsy. He's taking crap on the threads below, but I say he isn't the total blame. Did anyone else think we ran lazy routes last night? The CMU defenders were in our shirts all night, and they can't be that frikin fast (I mean all of them). How about Jabari's lazy effort in the corner and on the sideline? One last thing, then I'll sit back and wait for my "main boyz" to come in with their sad reports..........I am sick, sick, sick, about the attendance. Beautiful night, no Indians, no Buckeyes, no nuthin except Massillon and Iggy to pull away from this game, and only 10K? That really depresses me.............
  14. If there's anything I've learned over the years, it's that any given MAC/MAC game is, in reality, unpredictable. Having said that however, UA 35 CMU 20. Why? I think this club has: #1 attitude.......showed it last week when they willed themselves into OT and then willed themselves the W. #2. emerging talent sufficient to take the field against anybody in D1A by mid season, and I do mean anybody. #3. an "authentic" D1A coaching staff to support and develope them. #4. a QB with an attitude..............this cat's not going to live in Superman's shadow, and he'll do whatever is necessary to prove it...............I reallllllllllllllllly like that. #5. after the games of the past 2 weeks, these guys smell a possible MACC and they are not going o blow the chance after getting shafted for a Bowl Trip last season. Hey, we need to get Luke a nicname! Forget "Cool Hand" because it sucks and is not descriptive of his game................cool?.............maybe, but I'd say "firey" is more appropriate............... ILFSITF Welcome back big man aka the Dude

    J.D.

If you're really interested in what has made this program stronger, it's a 25 hour per day AD and his dedicated staff including UAM at the point. I hope JD pulls a MAC/C this year and if he goes, God Bless...........as long as we have The Boss around great things will continue IMHO.
  16. Ditto on the flowers to UAM on the Rowdies! How's this predic............... 38-38 at the end of the 4th QTR..............we go to OT.............only about 3,000 fans left in the stands because we were down by two scores (FG + TD) inside of 3 minutes and the unfaithful bailed................Frenchie is horse, so Cap'n has to go to the booth to help Stams out...........he (the Cap'n) carries up his remaining 2 brewskies he smuggled into the bowl inside one of last season's french Fryes and helps Steve get his voice back........as you look outside the bowl, you can see some of the headlites turning around and coming back toward the bowl.............the Coors Beer Garden lights go on again (they'd been turned off for heaven knows what reason at the start of the 4th Qtr)............. Anyway, we go into OT and NIU wins the flip and takes the ball...........they ram it down our throats and score.............then it's our turn............. (finish the story)
  17. Ever been to the "Zippy on a Stick" tailgate gala? Probably starts a 1PM for a 6 PM KO That's the best part of the game! Wonder if UAM's gunna stop by again? Rumors are about town that a Sullivan Brew is in the works this year Rumor has it tons of ex ballers are meeting up for a GIANT tailgate this week.......like starting at noon or something outrageous like that..........but what would I know? ILFSITF (and some other strange game days stuck into this years schedule)
  18. Bad news guyz.............. We're up against the Suckeyes v Hawkeyes............. 11K +/- too bad.......... Heard POTUS asked for his opinion on Roe v Wade what with all this Supreme Court activity going on...............and he replied "really don't care how they leave, but they all better get out of Nolins agin..............
  19. Just a thanx for the great reports...............nm
  20. Please don't mis-understand me..............I really like Steve also, I just wish he'd clean those specs...............I'm totally serious here! He could use a good flask toting spotter..............hey, maybe after a hit or two from Cap's jug, he's slow down just a smidgen and get more calls right
  21. Hey! CK...............you're going to M/Boro this week, right? Hey UAM............. How about a guest "assistant" in the booth to sort of "help" Frenchie a little? What the hey.............do we have a bigger long term fan than "The Cap"? M could keep his glasses clean, spot for him, and slip him notes of listener interest. Here's a game plan to pull this off..................have Tommy "pull a name out of the hat" on Thursday nights show, picking "the winner" of the contest (what contest?) to sit in the booth for the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know THE CONTEST. I luv this idea!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone's a winner! Steve gets things right, we'll have some extra enlightened comment (nobody could ever be as good as you however ) and who knows...........it may spawn a new career and a free radio guy for the uni.
  22. UAM...........will either you, or a designated lackie of your chosing PLEASE clean Frenchies glasses before he starts broadcasting the games!
  23. Thanks ZR..........nice report.
  24. I'm with CK..............why are you guys throwing in the towel before the opening whistle? GP1's right too...........all the way. Play to win, ALWAYS. Our conference competiton does! Geez...........
  25. Doc I don't think so........... Matt's next stop is going to be behind a microphone DJ'ing at an Akron area radio station I would bet!
