Next year you'll get two. Daniel Utomi. Isaiah Williams.

That's what KD's been able to do with the basketball program. The b-ball Zips are all proud to be Zips & love being on the team.

Jayvon Graves is a Class of '17 guard at STVM. He's a good 6'2" is a fantastic athlete and has a complete game. Does any insider know whether the Zips are pursuing Jayvon? I found this quote in an article about STVM: "Graves is a guard with scholarship offers from Kent State, Ohio University, Toledo, Northern Kentucky, Cleveland State and DePaul."

I hope he continues to develop & have fun playing football. But the odds of him (or anyone) getting a D-1 scholarship are slim-to-none. Just my 2 cents, but I wouldn't put too much additional pressure on him. Right now he looks like he weighs 80 pounds. There is a big high school around here named Canton McKinley. McK produces quite a few college athletes. McK's head football coach said, "If you want to play college football, I can help you with that. If you want to play D-1 college football, God has to help you with that." Some kids are blessed with great genes; the vast majority aren't.

Flashes @ Zips - March 4th @ 7pmBlue & Gold replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball I remember those years with Jimmal Ball, Bosley, Andrick, Kwanza, George Phillips, etc. Those were some of my favorite teams. Ever. Our starting five were better than K.e.n.t's, but Kent ran 10-deep swapping out two complete rotations at a time. I remember with about 10-minutes to go in one of those games, during a timeout huddle, Jimmal Ball was clearly gassed (but simply couldn't come out of the game) & K.e.n.t rotated in a fresh 5 players. You could tell Jimmal was worried. Dramatic stuff!

Buffalo (likely) in the semi-finals. Both Ohio & KSUcks on the other side of the bracket.

K.e.n.t just lost at MU. Get ready for Tuesday night!!
-
Ditto. I was very pleasantly surprised by the crowd. I was expecting another Buffalo-size turnout. I suppose getting on tv is worth it. Idk. I don't like competing with the high school games. There's nothing we can do about the CAVS, but we should complement the high school schedule, not compete with it. We want high schoolers at our games. I preferred it when we had our weekday games on Wednesday night. It worked much better. Tuesday night - high school Wednesday night - Zips Friday night - high school Saturday - Zips

Great crowd tonight! It's really gonna be rocking next week. Can't wait! Side note: With 4300 at the game tonight, those JAR bleachers were pretty maxed out. I was sitting in the upper south-side end zone & with people climbing all over each other to find seats it's downright dangerous.
-
Nice crowd here tonight! Hope we're LOUD!!

IMHO, another aspect of good (& basic) offense which is needed is when Big Dog has the ball down low, instead of the other 4 hanging around on the perimeter, we need someone to cut to the basket for easy assists from Dog. All 4 of our players hang around on the perimeter & just watch Dog go to work if he's not double-teamed.

I'm on my phone, so won't try to post any links, but according to Scout.com we have a new signee: ILB/DE Tony Jones (6-2, 235) from LA Pierce.

Unless we become a Boise State type of program in the MAC, I think averaging 15,000 a game would be near topping out. I invited a few friends to the Akron -v- Ke.n.t basketball game and they didn't know K.e.n.t was even a D-1 school and thought that was "funny." I think they only realize Akron is D-1 because I talk about them all the time. People around here are just really ignorant (and I mean that literally, not derogatorily) about MAC sports.
-
I like having the K.e.n.t game moved up to take advantage of the increased likelihood for good weather. I also like having the OU game as the last game of the season - Rivalry Week. I think I dislike OU more than I dislike K.e.n.t and I think OU fans dislike us more than they dislike MU. We should ditto this scheduling with both K.e.n.t and OU every year. (With the exception of playing OU on a Tuesday. Lame.)

K.e.n.t deserved to win that game. They out hustled us all night long. And it wasn't even close. Disappointing effort. (Except for Big Dog. He was beast.)
