  1. We'd expressed interest in LePear and may have offered a scholarship, even though I know we didn't have any scholarships left to give out this year. He's going to prep school. Maybe a player to keep an eye on for next year's 2017 class? http://www.cantonrep.com/sports/20160511/mckinleys-lepear-toles-to-go-prep-school-route/?Start=1
  2. That's a beautiful ring.
  3. +1. I don't see NBA players being willing to expend the energy on the defensive end of the floor which the full-court-press-all-game-long Havoc requires.
  4. Unintended consequence: UA dropping baseball has really curbed my enthusiasm for area high school baseball. I'm no longer that interested in who the area's top college baseball prospects are.
  5. My thoughts exactly. Have we ever had our place kicking and punting done by the same player?
  6. Western PA basketball isn't nearly what WPA football is. It's a far cry from NEO.
  7. Sorry to see you go, Balzy. I'm sure I'll see you on occasion. Keep spreading the love for the Zips in your classroom! We need young ones growing up rooting for the Zips. And even if you don't post on ZNo very often, remember that Zips football, basketball & soccer are fun entertainment, so don't stop attending! Go Zips!
  8. Where do the UA BOT stand on President Scarborough? An ABJ editorial piece. http://www.ohio.com/editorial/editorials/where-do-the-ua-trustees-stand-1.679533
  9. Edit: move my linked story to another thread.
  10. http://wkbn.com/2016/04/26/miller-to-continue-career-at-iup/ Miller gives verbal to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (UIP). A D-2 program. The video says Akron offered him, but the article says Akron only expressed interest.
  11. I said in my post that there were only 2 AAC teams that made me shrug: Tulsa & ECU. But honestly, I can't even tell you why. It's weird. They just don't grab my attention for some reason, even though I know I'd be going crazy if we ever had a football program like ECU's.
  12. Oh, excellent! Thank you!
  13. I get you, Balzy. So you understand where I'm coming from, I'm sick of K.e.n.t's behavior in this yearly memorial because, as you correctly and succinctly stated in one of your posts: "The purpose of a place of higher education is to challenge people's preconceived notions, to make you challenge what you already know and accept. If you aren't at least challenged to question what you already know and accept, than education has failed you, because there is no other reason for education to exist." I agree fully, which is why I find K.e.n.t so frustrating. They simply don't do this. At all. They never have lectures or memorials actually educating their students about the other side of the story. They never give counterbalance to the left-leaning narrative. You'll never see a seminar conducted from the perspective of the National Guardsmen (who, for the most part, were deer-in-the-headlights 18-19 year-olds being pelted with human feces & who actually may have been shot at first.) And now K.e.n.t is trying to tie this to the Black Lives Matter movement; an important movement to be sure, but a movement which has become bi-partisan & politicized, and, once again, K.e.n.t is banking hard to the left on this issue. Once again, K.e.n.t won't actually educate by presenting a perspective from the other side of the story; about how difficult and stressful the job of a law enforcement officer is. About how dangerous and thankless a law enforcement officer's job is. About how they have to make life-and-death decisions in the blink of an eye. About how they have to live with the consequences of those decisions for the rest of their lives. About the extensive training they have to go through on a yearly basis. About how no one, no matter what color their skin, should ever pull out a pellet gun while being interrogated (not a negative term) by an officer of the law. K.e.n.t isn't educating their students here, they're simply propagating the left-leaning narrative. Watch this every year from here on out and you'll see the same thing. Year after year after year. Their students are (intentionally?) left ignorant of the other point of view. That's not education. Edit: But you're absolutely right - I should have stated why I was so frustrated instead of just dropping a "roll eyes" comment out of nowhere with no context. That was not wise on my part.
  14. Since this is the Idaho Potato Bowl thread, is there anywhere to watch a replay online? I'm in the mood for UA football.
  15. IMHO, if offered, we should jump at a move to the AAC. Nothing here you can't easily google but I'm bored this a.m. AAC: UCF Cincy UConn ECU Houston Memphis Navy USF SMU Temple Tulane Tulsa It's simply personal preference, but there are really only two schools out of that group which kinda make me just shrug my shoulders: ECU & Tulsa (though Tulsa has great soccer.) I honestly do enjoy our current rivalries with Ohio, K.e.n.t & Buffalo and our blooming rivalries with NIU & Toledo. But again, I'm not sure but it may just be because I'm a huge Zips fan that I enjoy those rivalries. I do know that we need to do something to distinguish ourselves from the other MAC schools in the state. There are just too many of them. Off the top of my head, I think I remember reading that Ohio has the 2nd highest number of D-1 football schools in the country, trailing only Texas. For a state who's population is shrinking, that's just too many. We need to stand out. A move to another conference (even Conference USA, let alone the AAC, and the ACC pipe dream) would do that.
  16. I may have had a brain freeze on my prior post. I thought the AAC was a P5 conference. 1. Big Ten 2. ACC 3. SEC 4. Big 12 5. Pac-10 You're right. Disregard my above point about being a perfect fit for the AAC - if we're limiting our discussion to the P5.
  17. Right. Read the article, Balsy. It's disgraceful. And, btw, I didn't say we should boycott it or ban it from taking place, or censor anything at all. Just speaking my opinion on the matter that it is terribly inappropriate. Freedom of speech, you know. Kent being Kent.
  18. IMHO, a new basketball arena would be a prerequisite to admittance to a P5 conference.
  19. I'd absolutely love it if we were able to join a P5 conference. I enjoy the MAC, but I believe that's just because I'm such s huge Akron fan. I'm not sure we'll ever really win the attention of Joe Akron while competing in the MAC. It's just not taken seriously enough on a national level. We'd be a good fit for the AAC and have a natural rivalry with Cincy.
  20. Kent being Kent. I just puked in my mouth after rolling my eyes so hard I now have a migraine. http://www.ohio.com/news/education/tamir-rice-s-mother-to-be-keynote-speaker-at-may-4th-commemoration-at-kent-state-1.678736
  21. Yeah, unfortunately I agree with this. The stadium is so beautiful but those banners look pretty tacky.
  22. IMHO I believe our primary focus should be on scheduling name P5 schools, even if they're only known for football (Nebraska, Penn State, Michigan), to do something... anything... to spark more local interest in the team. The program is currently in a rut. A high rut, to be sure, but a rut nonetheless.
  23. Man... only 2:34 of highlights? Most of those highlights involved Tra'Von Chapman, btw. Woody's the man but Tra'Von looked to be putting a nice touch on those passes.
  24. I just saw that on twitter. Thanks for posting. Our postseason record really leaves much to be desired.
