When I see the recruiting whiffs I get frustrated, but then I have to remind myself that Groce also recruited Aziz Bandaogo and Jermain Marshall. They would have both looked terrific in blue & gold this year. It's crazy that we've got a former walk-on who's so good that two players like Aziz & Marshall both transferred out to find more PT.

Increasing JAR Attendance/Engaging the Fans
Blue & Gold replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I was watching on tv last night & it looked like they had a great very good crowd? But yes, I'd consider the MAC Center to be even worse than the JAR. Though the MAC Center has got a more... structurally sound... feel about it. The GA bleachers in the JAR feel like they're on the verge of collapsing. When walking up & down the stairs it feels like your foot is going to go right through the flooring. -
I almost never cheer for OU... but I sure was tonight š

Increasing JAR Attendance/Engaging the Fans

Another in a sea of tales as to how bad the JAR sucks, I had my iPhone and reading glasses sitting on the bleacher beside me during the OU game. A guy trying to get out during the game walked behind me, and apparently to avoid the legs of ppl sitting behind me, stepped on the bleacher right beside me & stepped right on my iPhone and reading glasses. š Meanwhile, WMU is building a privately funded (no tax dollars) $300 million, 6,500-seat basketball/hockey arena in downtown K-Zoo. Apparently it will seat 6,500 for basketball and hockey, while seating 8,000 for concerts. -
Does anyone have the link to the Enrique merchandise? on both 'Rique's and Barstool Sports instagram posts it says "link in bio," but there are no links in either bio... as far as I could tell.

Recruiting: Offense & Defense

Hopefully he winds up being a lock down corner šŖšŖ -
EDIT: I guess we already knew this. I got him confused with AJ George.

Exactly. The "Athletics" budget should be a subcategory (albeit, likely the majority) of the Advertising budget.

Thought this was interesting. He transferred to OU a couple weeks ago. lol

Man, that would be great! someone had rightly noted that it really looked as if he wanted to stay close to home as we were the only school of his final handful of choices which was outside the Chicagoland area. But Iām going to keep an eye on this one & keep my fingers crossed!

It'd be awesome if someone could dig up the old post of Enrique playing in the summer "Defense Optional" Akron-Canton Pro Am league where @NWAkron said he looked great. It was shortly after we learned of him being offered a walk-on spot. I thought NWAkron had had a few too many & was definitely wearing blue & gold-colored glasses. š

Still enjoying the afterglow of Friday night. But looking ahead, we're going to be awfully young next season. Potential 2-deep: PG: Tavari... Young Tavari's gonna be a good one. He had Sullinger going in circles Friday night. Young was very highly recruited but do we want a true freshman as our backup PG? Do we bring in a grad transfer? Can Scott play PG? W: Dawson... Scott Here's to hoping Dawson has a year left. Scott is the most quick, athletic, best on-ball/perimeter defender I've seen in a long time (even including Tribble, IMHO). If he can improve his 3-point shot he's going to be an absolute beast next year. W: Johnson... Mahaffey Nate is a future pro. But we're thin at W after Johnson. Mahaffey will only be a true freshman. He's a great athlete w/ a ton of upside, but I think he'd make for a good redshirt candidate. P: Lyles... Marvin Now we're getting to where we're really going to need help. Lyles is good off the bench but I don't see him as a starter at this level. He seems just a little bit slow. Marvin has springs for legs but will only be a redshirt freshman. P: Baker... Brisco Not to jinx the brother but Baker may be the next great Zip. However, as our roster is currently constructed, it looks like he's going to be our primary big; a tough ask for a redshirt freshman. Brisco is a man child and is going to be a bruiser but he'll only be a true freshman. We desperately need an experienced big to transfer in for next season. We'll have two scholarships to give and I say use them both on post players. Tavari's got dibs on the starting PG spot next year & I say let the cards fall where they may in having Shammah and Young run backup PG. This would leave us 2 scholarships for experienced post players.
