Second round of conference expansion is beginning.
Blue & Gold replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Unfortunately, for this move, we are dependent on Cleveland tv actually covering us. This should give us many sleepless nights. I don't think they would, for they never have. It means they would be required to validate something in the region outside of Cleveland. In the past they've always refused to do that. -

Very true. I guess it's not too complicated, is it?! -

I kinda like WMU (but I vacation near there every summer, so I'm biased) but I do know what you mean. There is a lot of dead weigh in the conference as it stands presently. The three you mentioned (though it might be good to keep one school from Michigan, i.e., WMU ) as well as IMHO, Bowling Green and Can't State. K.e.nt is a pickle right now because they've been so good in basketball. However, SIX schools from Ohio?! That's just way too many. Four is plenty - Akron, Ohio, Miami & Toledo. (Frankly, I wouldn't mind dropping Miami.) As far as Marshall goes, I miss our rivalry with them. They were another school I loved to hate. -
Oooh, I like it!

My ¢2: I think I'm with Keener on this one. C-USA doesn't intrigue me. I really like some the rivalries we presently have in the MAC. Ohio, K.e.nt, Miami. Those are all schools I love to hate. Other rivalries with Toledo, Western Michigan & Buffalo are also good ones. Heck, Ball State doesn't like us either. Add in Temple and UMass. What if the MAC would invite Marshall back. The MAC is more desirable than the current state of C-USA. Then use a little leverage and bring in Temple & UMass for all sports (the Atlanic 10, with the exception of Xavier, ain't what it used to be either). Any chance of those moves happening? It'd give us a really nice conference! Akron Can't Buffalo UMass Temple Ohio Miami Marshall Toledo BGSU EMU CMU WMU Ball State Northern Illinois -
+1. Western is tough, now healthy, and doesn't like us. A 5-hour bus trip. Wednesday night game. Our guys better be ready to bring it & throw down tonight. I want to see us get a killer instinct, a desire to annihilate the other team, not just coast on our natural athletic ability & turn it on just to win the game. Let's not just try to win this game, fellas. Let's embarrass Western in their own house.

This is right. The major problem I have with the Cleveland televised media is that for at least one generation now (that's all I'm familiar with) they haven't considered Akron worthy of even mentioning. Tragically, for the past generation, the televised media was unspeakably influential in defining a region's zietgiest (nice word ). Cleveland has been unquantifiably destructive to the average Akronite's psyche. But that's the thing, unless you step outside of it and look for it, you will take the ignorance of Akron for granted. As a result, most Akronites, greater Akron area residents, have absolutely no identity with, let alone pride in, the community they are from. Now, I'm 39 years old, and I've been an avid Zips fan since I was 19. I've been witnessing this for, like I said, LITERALLY 20 years. That's one entire generation of northeast Ohioans who have been unspokenly programmed to believe that the Zips aren't worth even mentioning. We'll never get our minds around the profound damage that has done. However, I'm just hoping that the internet continues to take over and that televised media continues down it's current road to irrelevance - ala Anchorman. I think the next generation of Akronites, as a whole, could really take a lot of pride in who they are, in where they're from, and in the athletic teams from the U of Akron - teams that are proud to have AKRON emblazoned on their chests (athletic teams are a major component of a community's identity.) the Cleveland media won't have the opportunity to tell them that they're not worth mentioning, and that the only sports important enough to find identity in are the CLEVELAND Browns, Cavs and Indians. Good grief, I could write a book on this. Sorry, people.

^^^ The nonsensical ravings of a lunatic mind.

Every Rowdie should be charged with inviting a new friend to a Zips game. Then every Rowdie should go out of their way to make the new faces feel a part of the family.

I don't think anyone takes any opinion of Kanye's seriously enough to take time to consider his lyrical content.

Of course not. Sadly, in the battle for Akron's relevance, most Akronites haven't quite figured out that Cleveland channels 3, 5 & 8 are basically Akron's Public Enemy #1. Columbus State would be Public Enemy #2. Watch the Cleveland tv news EVERY NIGHT. Watch for publicity/mention of anything UA and you WILL NOT find it. Keep hoping and keep watching - month, after month, after month - you WILL NOT find it. After a few years of this a light bulb will go off, and you'll begin to see what's happening. Then after 20 years (LITERALLY 20 YEARS for me) of hoping/looking you'll hate everything Cleveland almost as much as I do and wish the city up north nothing but the worst. "Cleveland +" will make you want to vomit. I say that after 20 years of enlightenment that you'll hate Cleveland "almost as much as I do" because for me it then will have been 40 years. Two things. 1) please don't cite the rare exception which proves the rule, and 2) if Cleveland's televised media would change their ways I'd be the very first person to forgive the city up north and let bygones be bygones and pull out that old Indians hat I'm sure I have in the back of my closet somewhere. Until then, fall into the lake, Cleveland & go Akron!

Uh oh. IIRC, Inside Zips Basketball on STO also advertised the gametime as being noon.

But your ZNO name is Zip-A-K-Rowdie. What gives?

Versus Eastern Michigan, courtesy of the Akron Beacon Journal. Tree's picture is #8. He is shredded beyond belief and ready to absolutely tear the rim off.

This is a healthy and realistic goal. Of course we want to be on the top of the totem pole, period, in the Akron area. Columbus State should be regarded as sucking it around here. The rest of the state? Obviously they won't feel that way. That's fine. Cleveland? Never. The Cleveland media would never allow Akron to be taken seriously, as long as it is in their power.

Urban Meyer left Florida because Tim Tebow's eligibility had expired and he saw an Alabama/LSU rising on the horizon. There will be much less pressure at Columbus State than there was with the big boy's in SEC country.

Great job! KD mentioned the large, enthusiastic crowd during his postgame interview.

Concerning 'Cuse: We did very well. Considering Syracuse often runs a zone defense themselves, and we don't, they're obviously more familiar with how to face a zone than we are. It wasn't pretty at times, but we won by 30! Concerning attendance: I have our church's youth basketball league literally all day (8 a.m. - 6 p.m.) so I don't often get to make the Saturday games (Trevor Weigand, Terry Weigand's son, plays in the league btw), but I got home about half an hour before the tip & was able to watch online. The crowd looked great on the computer! Sounded great too! Well done!!

Isn't that layout great?! I don't think the building's exterior is very attractive, but the seating is perfect for basektball. Tweaking it a bit, I'd say: 1) Add a hanging jumbotron scoreboard, 2) Add a loge level below the upper level, and, 3) Continue the seating around the corner where they have it interrupted (for their scoreboard) which would likely bring the seating to around 10,000 which, IMHO would be ideal.

Lucky. Honestly, my initial feed was perfect; no problems whatsoever. However, my computer battery died, so I had to plug in and log on again. And when I had logged back on my feed was starting and stopping and jumping forward like others had been complaining of. Weird.

Neither Egner nor Deji got into the game, did they? I'm thinking no. Is that weird?
