  1. Watching on the tube, I also noted that we made our run and pulled away with Big Zeke on the bench. Treadwell is also much, much more of a hard arse than good ol' Zeke, which may be what we really need against a bunch of thugs like Can't.
  2. Where did they put the students tonight?
  3. There's no way there were that many there. They showed clips on tv and the lower bowl was full while the upper bowl was sparsely populated.
  4. If you're watching STO following the Zips game, check out what Loyala has done to their Gentile Arena. They converted it from a 4,500- seat "gym" to what you now see. If UA could do that to the JAR I'd be willing to listen - even though I still don't like the location of the JAR.
  5. It's good to see he was a decent baller. He's probably relatively light on his feet.
  6. What an absolutely huge dude. I just hope he has some of his big brother's athleticism.
  7. The notion that we'd draw thousands for college hockey (we barely draw 3,000 for most basketball games) is just crazy, in my opinion. I've got to agree with that. It is a huge undertaking, maintaining an ice hockey arena. Let's build a world-class basketball arena, where we maintain a true home court advantage. Don't think NBA. Exceedingly few college teams draw like NBA teams. Even Columbus State complained about how quiet Value City Arena is compared to their old basketball arena. As painful as it is to say this, we're never going to draw like Columbus State. Also, to envision a Cavs game isn't realistic either. Even the worst NBA franchises draw much better than almost all college teams. Even Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium seats only 9,314 - though they can cram 10,000 in there for standing room only. We need a 10,000-seat (tops) arena where spectators are right on top of the action. This is Oregon's new basketball arena, the Matthew Knight Arena. It seats 12,541, which is about 2,500-seats larger than we'd build. Also, we couldn't afford half of the bells & whistles this place has. But it's a beautiful basketball arena that we should hope to emulate. If we build a 8-10,000-seat hockey arena for Zips basketball, a crowd of 6,000 would be spread thin, far removed from the court & boy would it be quiet in there. (One reason the Cavs always have something blaring over their speakers.)
  8. For college hockey, something just a little nicer than Can't's antiquated ice arena would be perfect. It'd be nice to have an ice arena on campus for the students and community anyway (broomball for the area youth groups!). Somthing similar to Miami-O's beautiful new Goggin Ice Arena would be great! But even though Miami-O has a national championship caliber hockey team, the Goggin holds less than 4,000. But, whatever. Anything but the JAR.
  9. Actually the article states that the team met with TW concerning the mere possibility of the team moving from club to scholarship rank. From the wording of the blurb, it sounds as though the team approached TW and not the other way around.
  10. Amen. Bush league. I also coach youth basketball & I'm happy to say that two of my players often show up in Zips t-shirts. Of course I heap praise on them when they do.
  11. You can understand where they're coming from. The 10-20 people who would want a replica jersey probably all post on ZNO. However, having said that, I think simply from a respectability standpoint, they should be in the offering. As an illustration, Acura is brining back the NSX supercar. Not that they're going to sell many of them - they will probably lose money on them. But a high-end car manufacturer has to have a sports car to add to their cache. Acura's cache had fallen, in respect to Lexus, Infinity, BMW, Audi & Mercedes because they didn't have a real sports car to offer. Even if the NSX just sits in Acura showrooms for guys to ooh-and-aah over, it shows that Acura is a serious, high-end brand & adds cache to their other, more mundane vehicles. IMHO, so it should be with replica jerseys. Unfortunately, Akron just doesn't take themselves as seriously as some of their fans do.
  12. In the spread offense you're probably looking for speed and shiftiness from your RB, which probably aren't Snowball's strong suits. When I think spread offense (Oregon, WVU, the real OSU) I think of running backs more in the mold of David Jones, from whom we've received a verbal. (Check out his moves!)
  13. It sounded like Buffalo had quite a student section! However, i was never able to see them online. Sure could hear them, though! Props to Buffalo.
  14. Zeke is a little soft & Nic can't jump. Tree has to be the man down low, but he had a terrible game tonight. Maybe trying too hard against McCrae?
  15. Dumb & Dumber reference by the Buffalo announcer.
  16. Wow, great clutch shot by Buffalo. They're on fire from behind the arc tonight.
  17. Announcers mentioned the body language betweem Zeke & KD was not good when KD took him out of the game. The announcers sided with KD, saying basically "Keith Dambrot is tough on Zeke because he wants Zeke to make a lot of money playing in the NBA. Hate me now, thamk me later."
  18. Can't afford to take Abreu out of the game. Over 4 minutes to play. Hang in there, AA!
  19. He got suspended from ZNO for a month.
  20. So I see you've got Avis Commackk listed as already enrolled. However, NewZipsFan, who really seems to have some good info, doesn't believe Coach Bowden is recruiting Avis to play here, due to his pending legal issues. So, does anyone know the story here?
  21. I agree. These guys are great! Very fair and complementary, pointing out both Akron's faults and strengths. They sound a bit surprised that the Bulls are playing Akron so tough. It's nice getting another perspective apart from Frenchy & Dunn. These guys are so fair that they're making Buffalo my second-favorite MAC team.
  22. AMEN.
  23. +1. I also like it. I do wish they would have mixed a little gold in there. I think old-gold & grey are an extremely sharp combo.
  24. Holy crap! Click that link & then click (lower right-hand corner) "Sex Positions 101"!!! This is the UB student newspaper?! I don't think we'd ever see an article like this in the ABJ by either Marla Ridenhour or George Thomas!
  25. +1. Thanks, it was an excellent read!
