Wow. How profoundly disappointing. I'd rather lose to anyone in the country rather than Cleveland State.
Now I absolutely guarantee you the rat-bastards Cleveland media will be all over this story.
Screw you, Cleveland.
At least LeBron kicked you to the curb. We still have that going for us.

Watched Grice play tonight at the Info. He definitely has some talent, he made a few stupid mistakes but he also made some real nice plays. Definitely a great pickup and good to see a local kid staying here.
He looked great.
Another player we should look into for the future is that LB from Buchtel. I think his name is Odin.
Marlon Oden.
Ricky Powers (Buchtel's HC) is very high on him. iCoach should be trying to become best friends with Ricky Powers.
Anyway, I tried to look Marlon up on Rivals.com but the Football Recruiting page wasn't loading for me.

UA to begin offering degrees out of Stark State. It's just the one right now, but it opens the door to more in the future.
I could see the state folding Stark State into UA, and then us operating it as a joint branch campus with Can't State-Stark in an effort to save money.
I lose track of time, but I'd say about 8-10 years ago there was talk of closing Can't-Stark to save state money due to the fact that UA is only about 10-minutes up 77. I was really hoping they would, but, to no avail.
Can't-Stark cuts a good number of potential students off from UA. That campus is one of the big reasons I have such a disdain for Can't as a whole. I try to make fun of my friends who go there - reminding them that it's a little, high-school-like community college every chance I get. They should drive the extra 10-minutes, go to a real school & rock The U.

I find it amazing that Akron can't get at least a few studs from the area every year.
+1

Now it's only a 5.5 percentage point lead. They must be making a run. Still a nice lead, but let's make this a no-doubter!
Go Ampi! Go Zips!

Lol, whatever. MJ's really beginning to turn into the old fart who keeps dropping, "When I was a kid we walked to school & then back home, in the snow, barefoot, uphill - both ways..."
Just go away, Mike.
Does anyone know how many times the great Michael Jordan got his team out of the first round of the playoffs without Scottie Pippen? Never! Not a single time. Nada. Zilcho. And yes, you read that correctly, that's out of the first round.
Know what the Bulls record, led by the great Michael Jordan, was the year before the Bulls acquired Scottie & drafted Horace Grant?
40-42!!! That's right, the "great" Michael Jordan's Bulls were 40-42 without Scottie & Horace & were again swept in the first round of the playoffs.
The next year the Bulls acquired both Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant & then and only then did things begin to click.
How soon we forget.
The problem is more people know the myth of MJ rather than how the Bulls really fared w/o other All-NBA players surounding him.
Shut up, Mike.
And, btw, that embarrassing 40-42 record was with Charles Oakley manning the PF on that team - the 2nd best PF in the game at the time (behind, IMHO, Karl Malone.)

Nothing there that anyone on ZN didn't already know. But here's another nice quote "On the team's outlook:"
"We don't have any reason not to be confident. We have won every other year. We have two guards that have played in the postseason every year. We have a 7-foot center (Zeke Marshall) that is twice as good as last year and we have a big forward in Brett McKnight that is one of the best scorers in the league. We will have to work hard to be good, but I believe we are as good as anyone for the most part."

On a brighter note....Buffalo is still on the schedule
I have November 26th circled and highlighted on my calendar! 1-11 c'mon, baby!!!

Welcome aboard, Cody.
I'll update the list on the first page. He's listed as a FB by the recruiting services. If he becomes starting tailback, I imagine he would be the bruiser in a tandem with H-back Nick Rossi.
I liked this quote: “I basically noticed that there are not many Akron kids on the Akron roster, and I want to help change that. I want to contribute to Akron.” Could he be something like Travis and Joyce were for basketball?
That is a GREAT quote!!! A true homeboy ready to represent! THAT'S THE ATTITUDE OUR COMMUNITY NEEDS!

Cody Grice - RB - Akron Firestone gives verbal to Zips...
Very excited to hear this! We've got to start keeping our best players home & this is a good start. Cody's a big, strong, fast back. I'm planning on going to the Info Friday night to watch the Firestone-Buchtel City Series championship game. It'll probably be the only exciting game I see @ the Info all year!
[edit]... Another great quote:
“I have been to some Big East schools and Akron’s facilities are better than there’s. I have been living in Akron all my life. I have seen the school evolve from just being mediocre to a high class school.”
Welcome aboard, Cody! Glad you're a Zip!
Great get, iCoach!

Columbus Northland standout PF Jalen Robinson has opened his recruiting back up after originally committing to Bob Huggins and West Virginia. He has an offer from the Zips.

I like beating Cinci for a recruit! Welcome aboard, Jabari & way to go iCoach!

I am grateful that Tom Gaffney is putting a bit of pressure on the program.

This is why futbol gets me on edge. Especially come a single elimination tournament. Stressful!

David Murrow's season continues. Strongsville defeated Copley 4 - 1 tonight. Fun game (worth the short drive from Brunswick). Up next, undefeated Brecksville-Broadview Heights.
How did David look?

2) keep his mom away from delonte
Sadly, I believe this had A LOT to do with it.
I believe, after this debacle, that he's only friends now with Mo Williams & Z. I would have wanted off that team too.

Akron and NOT Cleveland!
same professional sports market.
Unfortunately.
As unfortunate is the fact that we share a common tv market, which Cleveland controls, and has been using to piss on Akron for decades now.
That's why it is so HUGE that LeBron drew the line in the sand between the two cities. We in Akron desperately need our own self-image. A self-image divorced from the old common assumption that Akron is simply Cleveland's little brother.
LeBron's explicit comments that he is from Akron and not from Cleveland is HUGE for Akron's self-identity. Psychologically, this is indeed a very large, healthy and much needed step.

If you were Nike, would you have done something different, or do you think this ad is good? (Try to remove your "hatred" and think business).
What do you grade the ad, F to A?
I would give it an "A" for what it is trying to do. It is Nike, and they always have some of the best ad campaigns going. It's interesting to see Nike in full defensive mode. I don't believe I've ever seen Nike circle the wagons like this.
The ad could have perhaps had a more apologetic tone? While the message of the ad is true, I think a little false remorse may have been a nice touch.
IMHO the only way LeBron will recover from "The Decision" is winning a championship. The Decision was a disaster. He should have simply announced his decision via email.

Akron's got your back, 'Bron!

Someone gave iCoach a B?
-
Hey Tom, it's go time. Crank up that big marketing machine.
-
Thanks, Zach.
So is this a finalized list? And, if so, how do we have so many roster spots available, there being only 3 seniors on this year's squad?
Probably not final. I know Tulloch and Mattocks were very late adds to this year's class. That could of course happen again.
To answer your other question, we will definitely be losing some underclassmen early to the MLS which will free up a couple more spots. But also, soccer scholarships aren't like football or basketball in the sense that you have x number to give away and they are all full scholarships. Soccer players are often given partial (half, quarter, etc.) scholarships to play. It's hard to know exactly how many "full" scholarships we are gaining back from the graduating seniors and the players that might be leaving early.
Thanks clearing that up for me!

Our Long Snapper is quite good.
Moral Victories for Today
in Akron Zips Football
Posted
Here's a pathetic moral victory -
I'm watching the epic Ball State - Can't State battle on tv and, as far as actual butts-in-the-seats, K.e.n.t. doesn't have any better a crowd than the nightmarishly-sparse crowds we've been drawing at the Info.
It'll be interesting to see what their "announced attendance" will be for this game.
It really seems as though nobody really even wants to get into K.e.n.t. athletics.
Contrarily, a lot of half-hearted, not-even-really-interested people that I talk to seem to want to rally around the Zips. Akron is just sooooo bad that it's literally embarrassing. If Akron could get their act together, the Info would be an absolutely jamming place to be on a Saturday afternoon.
