What an amazing game! Futbol gives me hypertension!
Props to the socceroos!!!
Go Zips!

The College of Charleston (South Carolina) is DI. The University of Charleston (West Virginia) is DII.
Ah. Thank you for the clarification. That makes much more sense.

Should be interesting to see what Can't fans have to say. They always tend to rip Akron, even in positive articles. Well idk if I can even say "they", the only Can't fan on ohio.com is freaking "fred" who is by far the dumbest person in ohio.
Correct. Saying "they" when referring to the Can't fan is being far too generous.

I see they beat the University of Charleston. No, I see they destroyed the University of Charleston 118-76. Isn't Charleston a D-1 school?

Since they're supporting the Zips, anyone who's 21 or older should go to either Tap House or Barley House & reciprocate the support if at all possible. Or any other area bar/pub/restaurant. Let's stimulate the economy a bit.

I was going to post this under the "UA in the News" thread but couldn't locate it. If a moderator would like to merge it...
Good to see that UA has plans for former rehabilitation hospital Edwin Shaw.
I grew up not far from Edwin Shaw & used to volunteer some time there.
I hope UA goes forward with this potentiality and Edwin Shaw doesn't sit vacant for long.
Man, what would this city be without UA?! I shudder at the thought.

I haven't received one (yet?). I did not attend the last 2 games, is that why i didn't get it?
Ditto. I was unable to attend the Miami and Buffalo games. Though I did listen online!

Confession to make....I grew up in NJ playing with Ken Lollas younger brother John. Ken would sometimes act as guest coach during practices. Then in high school we had to run the dreaded "Kenny Lolla drills" that were basically two hours of sprinting.
I was glad- and very suprised to meet up again with Coach Lolla here at Akron. Ken and John are absolutely fine people. That being said, it would be an amazing story for us to go up against Louisville to win this thing. I don't care about UNC, I want our Zips to play the number one seed.
GO ZIPS
Lolla did a lot for the community when he was here. He's a good man. I don't think he was happy about leaving Akron, but felt it was a move he had to make for professional reasons.
Having said that, I would none-the-less beat UNC in the title game. We're familiar with the Tar Heels. I'd be much more anxious facing the Cardinals.

It somewhat keeps the good ol' bowl system around while giving the fans the playoffs they want.
If there is a playoff, the bowls will come to an end within 10 years of the playoff system starting. There will be no interest in them. Neutral site games are not realistic for a football playoff system because most of the alumni of any school can't afford to travel to more than one bowl game a year, let along 2-4 playoff games. The stadiums would have a lot of empty seats as it is hard to find 85,000 fans in any city willing to go watch a game they have no interest in.
Speaking of neutral site games, I see the PAC 10 is going to play their championship game at one of the schools in the championship. I think this is a great idea and something the MAC should look at doing again. Nothing says "small time" like the thousands and thousands of empty seats in Detroit. Play at a smaller stadium and the empty seats won't look so bad. If the PAC 10 can do it, the MAC can do it.
In the above brackets, there are only three games there that would be worth the time watching. The first round wouldn't be much different than the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament.
They should play the MAC Championship game @ Fawcett Stadium in Canton.

How the Big East has fallen. They have the Big East champion (UConn) slotted @ #14 - just one notch higher than the MAC champion (Miami O.) @ #15.

Does anybody still buy the Beacon? If so I was wondering where the location of today's articles appear?
Soccer Article & football article I have to guess soccer on the front page with photos right?
Not 100% sure if all editions are the same, but mine has a large picture of Meves (featured image on the page) making one of the PK saves along with the article on the front page of the sports section.
That's great! The Akron Beacon is doing a much better job of covering Akron. One or two years ago the lead article on the front page of the Akron Beacon Journal's sports section would have been a preview of today's Cleveland Brown's game. Honestly.
Did we get mentioned on any of the evening newscasts last night? I know, I know... I ask for the moon.

The ABJ has some great shots from yesterday's Akron v. Cal game.
Picture #1 is an Instant Classic.
And notice how Darren Mattocks looks to be getting his nose broken in picture #7!

Unfortunately, Buchtel lost to Columbus Bishop Watterson by one point today - 13-12. Tough loss.

Dont know if you heard Coach D's post-game interview ...but Zeke has a really, really bad cold. I know that he is sluggish and weak...AND he said that he also has a bruised knee (which I didnt know). But I spoke to Zeke last night and he sounded HORRIBLE!!! Soooo..that is why he didn't play alot...and when he did play he looked "out of whack".
OK..somebody go and get my baby some CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP pleassseeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL:)
I did not hear the post-game interview so thank you for the update. I hadn't hear that Zeke was under the weather so was wondering why he didn't see more PT than he did. We really could have used more of the big fella than we were able to get today. We were fortunate to win that game without him.

The announcers were incredibly high on Teague. Apparently he's been a stud in the state title games (all of which Ursuline has won) for the past three years. So I also jumped over to Rivals.com and was shocked/disappointed/perplexed that, according to Rivals, we haven't even offered him.

STAT ALERT! The following post contains statistics. Those who are allergic to statistics should avoid reading this post.
Pomeroy also currently projects the Zips to beat Illinois Chicago by 2 points.
IC's win over Rhode Island did nothing to pump up their standing in the Pomeroy ratings. Pomeroy currently projects that IC will lose all of their remaining games this season except for a home game against Youngstown.
Pomeroy thinks UIC will only win one more game the rest of the year, yet we're only favored by 2 points?! Not terribly flattering.

A good point made in this article concerns our excitement about the cold Akron weather being a distinct advantage against the Cal Bears. However, Darren Mattocks - our true freshman leading scorer from Jamaica - isn't too thrilled about the weather conditions himself. I hope he's in top form!

How the hell does a top 25 team LOSE to the Miami Redhawks???
This conference is so dysfunctional....
Dysfunctional is a good description. It's confusing and flat-out just doesn't make sense how we could have, no... SHOULD have beaten the MAC champs?! We're probably the worst team in all of D-1A football, get absolutely rolled by NIU, yet... whatever, it does no good to try and understand it.
Again, the MAC is so pathetic it's just begging for a mediocre school to dominate the conference and garner illegitimate Top 25 rankings. Come on, iCoach! Make us that illegitimate Top 25 team!

"Match" - game
"Header" - hitting the ball with your head
"GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!!!!" - score
-
And to think the Zips were THAT close to eliminating the Sweaters. Wow. More evidence that the team really WAS improving at the end of the year?
We really must have been. We got absolutely blasted by NIU but really should have beaten Miami.
Goodness, the MAC is there for the taking. As we all know, it really doesn't take a whole lot to win in this conference.
NIU was undefeated in conference play, and had that Top 25 ranking which I so covet.
Come on, iCoach! Work your recruiting magic!
