So I will put you down as undecided on the prudence of firing of icoach.

Have you all forgotten about the search firm we hired. I am certain they will come up with a candidate that will knock your socks off and save TWs job.

I don't mean to sound like a smart ass so please don't take it that way, but why in the world would this guy leave what he has to come to Akron? We have a habitually losing program and an AD who is surely to be relieved of his duties in the near future (one year). Anyone who takes the job would be subject to the crazy whims of the next AD who wanted to hire "his guy". Any coach who takes on Akron at this point is either desperate to become a head coach, or should be placed on career suicide watch. I don't think we fully realize yet what Winters turning down the job means....it says much more than he just didn't want the job or a contract extension at WSU. Tension and anxiety are both at a peak, but I don't think we are in an irrecoverable situation. True, we have to be realistic that we are not going to get a proven coach with a recognizable name. Still, if I am an ambitious young guy who is confident in my ability, I might look at the Akron job as a good way to propel my career. Surely I would believe I could improve on 2-22. Somebody is going to be excited to get this job. We can still land a diamond in the rough, but we probably won't see the diamond the date he is hired. Only a couple of seasons will tell. We can only hope and wait at this point. There are no sure things when you are as low as we UA football has fallen. It would also help if you are highly medicated. Please name all the people whose head coaching career has been propelled (In a positive direction) as a result of being the the Akron head coach.

In hopes of lifting all your spirits, how about a coach who in 6 years led his D2 team to a 74-7 record and TWO national titles!! Best of all he is currently the recruiting coordinator at Notre Dame. Let's go after Chuck Martin HARD.

At least we now know exactly where we are in the process. We are up Shit Creek without a paddle.

While Toledo is not yet good, they don't appear to be the horrible mess they've been for the last few years. After all, their new coach HAS won a game at the JAR. Our Coach has maybe 2-3 wins all time against their new coach, who used to coach in the Horizon at UWGB. He is a good one and let me tell you, he has a solid bunch of players to work with compared to last year. They won 4 games last year and already have 7 this year. Like YSU, they are not the same old shitty program of old. Just like YSU is better than last year. Should be a dandy this evening. Any particular spot I should look to purchase a ticket? Just ask for two in the first row of the loser's section.

Taking an overall record is the same as taking a company's balance sheet for the past 10 years. It quite possibly could equal zero or negative. That doesn't mean the company isn't performing well or making a profit for most of those years. The guy took over a program that had seen two winning seasons in 25 years, and has lead them to 4 winning seasons in the past 7. He took a team that had never been in the D-II playoffs and coached them to the championship game, going on the road beating teams that just don't lose at home. If you are making a profit with zero or negative assets, you are doing one hell of a job, but odds are the IRS (or some other authority) is keeping an eye on you.

Paul Winters / Wayne State Title Game Thread
Zipmeister replied to ZipperRoo44's topic in Akron Zips Football
Well, from what I hear that's a good 5-minutes longer than Zipmeister lasts. That's what she said. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to watch PWs game. I did, however (as your Moms can attest), last through 5+ hours of the Temple and Ohio telecasts. Really good to see the MAC winning bowl games. Seasons Greetings to All. -
Well said. Akron isn't going to be a place for a guy who was head coach at OSU for a season to come, regardless of the circumstances. Typically, the MAC/Akron is a good fit for someone who is a long time assistant/short time coordinator to break in. Or, a guy like Winters or Kelly who did their time in lower divisions. Nobody wants to hear it, but the Akron job would have been a step down for Fick. Last season was his chance to audition for a CUSA job. Given the cards he was dealt, he did a pretty good job. At the rate Pitt is going, they might just be CUSA quality if they don't watch out. Pitt is a step up for Fick and a good opportunity. If he proves himself, he could always go back to OSU in a few years when UM has had enough. Since we entered D1, the HC position at Akron has been a springboard to a lower division or out of coaching altogether.

Let's cast it: Rodney Dangerfield as Charlie Weis Richard Kind as Rob Ianello TBA We should limit the cast to people who are still alive. Your suggestions are good, but it will take a couple of stage hands to move Rodney to his marks.

BIG Trouble for ex-NIU Player
Zipmeister replied to Dave in Green's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Math lesson #2. $5M keeps you pretty darn happy and legal. $90M is a lot, $0 is little if you get caught. $5M >>>> $0. I'll bet he didn't do a cost/benefit - risk/reward analysis. Should have gotten an education at UA instead of NIU. $90 is his cost of dealing, not his benefit. But to keep the math simple, let's say his retail price is double what he paid. Ignoring taxes, other operating costs, and the time value of money, if he estimated that there was a 50% chance he would get caught and a 50% chance he would not, dealing was a utility maximizing decision. $45M > $5M. This ignores the benefit of getting caught which eliminates the need for him to pay for his own housing, clothing, medical care and food for the next 5 to 15 years. Obviously, the best solution depends on his dealing profit margin and the odds of being caught, but the former would have to be significantly below my example and the latter significantly higher for the optimal solution to change. -
I am. I certainly could be wrong, but the 440V line dropping in the bathtub describes the level of shock I'd receive if it's anyone else. I too would be shocked if a live 440V line dropped in the bathtub. For this to occur either the line or the tub had to be terribly located. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_does_277_and...20_single_phase

If PW has demonstrated an ability to successfully compete against other programs with bigger budgets, he will fit right in at Akron.

When someone as influential as Zach starts running you down, your days are numbered. But, you cannot silence the most revered and knowledgeable poster on this board. Long live UAkronkid Zach. -

Could be. Remember The Urban didn't talk to The OSU until the very last moment before they did their deal. -

New Coach to be Announced via Social Media
Zipmeister replied to tpsjugglerdude's topic in Akron Zips Football
I have to agree with the guy that..............The school has arguably the best facilities in the Mid-American Conference and likely the least attractice head coaching job. That explains the rumor that the next coach's apparel contract will be with Cictoria's Secrets; that should help make the job more attractice. -
That clinches it. Google used Stoop's picture to make their stock images.

I must agree. I do not believe he would stoop so low as to take the Akron position.
