Early word is that Fick is the top choice
Zipmeister replied to Buckzip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Sorry. I don't really care if you believe me. Just putting out there what I heard. I never said he will be the HC. I said he will be first choice im just messin with ya. i do it with my friends whenever they speculate about something lol Me too. The hangup will be money. He will make More as an asst at OSU than the HC here. It depends how badly he wants to be a HC That has to be a tough decision for him......stay at a big time program making a boatload of money waiting for the right opportunity to open up somewhere or go to what stands to be a career-ending job. Hmmmm, what should I do, what should I do?? -
Well the story is written in English and England is a nation.

Sooner or later Detroit is going to win an away game; probably later.

Now we can stop rearranging the chairs on the Titanic and start fixing that pesky little hole the iceberg caused.

Live in the past much?

Get the clipboards out of storage. No more carrying the play book around in our pants.

"Rob Ianello Will Not Return as Akron Football Coach #MACFootball" "A national search for Ianello’s replacement will be conducted immediately. #GoZips #MACFootball" This is very promising! I agree, but this is really bad form for the conference communications guy to comment on before the university has made an official announcement.

I have been privileged to attend many games in a friend's suite since the stadium opened. They feel that it has been a complete waste of money. Food and drink only go so far. When going to a game--in a luxury suite--is a dreaded weekly burden, something needs to change. My friends and I cannot and will not tolerate another game of Ianello-ball. So, personally speaking, I know of tens of thousands of dollars that the coach is ALREADY costing UA. Not to mention the empty stands and many other suite owners whose renewal notices will go unreturned. College football is a big business. UA better realize that and get in the game....or get out altogether. They're putting a coach and product on the field that's like milquetoaste compared to Cardinal Mooney, Chagrin Falls, Mentor, St. V. It's pathetic, Luis. College is about EDUCATION. If football is all about big business then it should be left to those willing to take financial risk for financial reward. You seem to be OK with others footing the bill in all things. The university to provide your entertainment and your friends to provide access that entertainment. Your attitude is exactly what is wrong with society today. "Give me", "Provide it for me", "I/we deserve it" Ridiculous post. You missed the entire point. How much revenue is UA going to lose holding onto The Grim Reaper as head coach? College may be about education, but college football has nothing to do with education and everything to do with entertainment and revenue generation. I simply don't understand how UA puts ANY butts in the seats other than parents/family anymore. You talk about financial risk. How about the financial risk of building a 68 million dollar football stadium without the ability to sell any tickets to events held there? You're OK with that? You're OK with suite/box subscribers walking away? Football in the MAC generates REVENUE but not INCOME. YES...I am OK suite/box subscribers walking away rather than asking students to subsidize their entertainment. College football is just not that important. Colleges should NOT be in business to provide entertainment. Sorry...you just don't get it. Sports are intended to enhance the student experience. But not at any cost. Mount Union, Xavier, Dayton and other schools have great student experience and don’t ask its students to subsidize football for the entertainment of a few fans. Not only does Xavier not ask its students to subsidize football, neither does Wright State, Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Marquette, Cuyahoga Community College, and many other fine institutions of higher learning.

This is the second suspension in two years for the BB team. I can't remember the last suspension the football team has had and they have almost six times the number of players on scholarship as the BB team. Sure you want to go down this road? Are we counting permanent suspensions?

If he gets another job, which he will, we only pay the difference. He's not gonna sit on his ass for three years and collect a paycheck, otherwise he'll never get back in. We'll only end up eating a very small fraction of this contract. small fraction? With the last two years on his resume, who is going to pay him a large fraction of what he currently gets? Last year at OSU, Luke Fickell made about $200k. I expect Ianello to end up getting paid somewhere between $100k and $150k as a BCS position coach. So in a best-case scenario we're on the hook for maybe 2/3rds of his salary. You might consider a math refresher course. Sounds to me like Zach is speculating that if RI is fired and gets a BCS asst. job he might make about 1/3 of his current salary there. 3/3 - 1/3 = 2/3 that we would still have to pay...I guess I need the same refresher course(?) The copy of the icoach contract on page 3 of this thread indicates his compensation is $381k + perks. Knowing this information, whoever hires him is likely to lowball him for at least three years. Even at $150K we will be on the hook for more than 2/3 of his remaining contractual compensation (but close enough that the difference isn't critical unless it is coming directly out of my pocket). I think it more likely that he will be drawing closer to $100K from his new employer.

does everyone forget that it was footballscoop.com that first reported Ianello was being hired? I don't want to be let down on this. Do a little research on how they get their info. My fingers are crossed, but I am prepared for the worst. P.S @ softballer: I am uncertain weather 2010 or 2011 was the worstest, but they was both bad.

Even though what we all want to happen isn't likely to occur, during this holiday season I am thankful that the Captain started this rumor. It really perked up my spirits as well as scores of other Zips fans.

Scoop: Icoach cloned - Insures he will be the Zips head coach for the next 100 years.

Good one.

Well said.

1st defensive TD of the year. Go Zips. When Akron comes back to win this game it will be the biggest comeback in Zip football history, and ITZ will have missed it.

I thought you said you were gone for the rest of the day!

I don't believe money is an issue. His salary at OSU was petty cash compared to the money he married into.
-
That's what I was talking about when his name got mentioned months ago. The "redemption" factor. How good would he look if he turned around the most ailing program around, and right here in Ohio, and back at a school where he started coaching. It almost has that karma-destiny thing going. Also for him, he gets the chance to do endorsements and make money from ads and putting his name on things. Where else besides a major Ohio media market can he walk right in and start making money like that? A lot of places seem to have a problem with OSU, from even before the scandal stuff broke, they always thought OSU was overrated. He's not going to make a lot of money with his name outside of this state like he could here. For the university, what do you get? Butts in the seats! Instantly. Newspaper coverage. Attention from the columbus faithful (not sure what that's worth, but yeah) I would hire him to be the spokesman for my flying pig farm.
-
the only ones that want him are the ones that root for that school in Portage County. I thought you were going to avoid the football threads this week and avoid the rumor mill!!!

Do you have access to inside info, or are you just guessing like everyone else? As is now evident from examining Ianello's contract, UA would not likely incur a heavy penalty by releasing him early because it's likely that Ianello would land a well-paid assistant position in a major program that would offset most or all of what UA would owe him over the remaining 3 years of his contract. Based on the Zips' record over the last 2 years, including the most recent team performances, UA would have to have really deep and abiding faith that Ianello is on the verge of a major turnaround next season to keep him in place. I'd be just fine with Ianello as UA's head coach if it were true that a major turnaround is just around the corner. But, like others on this forum, I've seen no evidence to give me deep and abiding faith in that scenario. How much do you think well paid assistants (say recruiting experts) make?

I have heard that whatever Zipmeister has heard simply isn't true. ME87 has a much better attitude than you.

I have heard that Football Scoop may have additional information posted on Wednesday.
