That's a pretty loose definition of a rivalry. If the series being competitive is the benchmark, then the OSU vs. Michigan rivalry is not really one. In fact, it's becoming the Tennessee vs. Vandy rivalry in terms of national relevance. Besides, I'm not really interested in debating what rivalry means. I want them to play because they are two schools within two hours of each other, at the same level and that allows students, fans, alumni and the general community (basically the taxpayers of Ohio) to enjoy a day of fun and football on a late summer day. If the mayors want to have some sort of trophy, I could really give a hoot.
Akron won't always be this bad. We have been this bad before and have recovered to some level of respectability. Not that long ago we were in the MACC. The MAC is a pretty easy conference to get good in as long as you don't make catastrophic mistakes.
Point of order.
I didn't define a rivalry, and you're the one who brought up how close the all time W/L record was; I just added a time dimension.

I don't know, but my guess is misplaced priorities by athletic directors followed closely by a lack of imagination.
What is a rivalry? I have no idea. I would say that UNC and Wake have no rivalry. Wake really has no rival. UNC has Duke and NC State to hate. UNC and Wake have decided that playing each other in OOC games when they are not scheduled for an ACC match up is good for the players, students, alumni, fans and general community. The last time they played it was a beautiful 6 PM, Friday night kick off in W-S. It was a great game with Wake having to hold off a desperate second half comeback by UNC. After the game, the bars and restaurants in uptown W-S were packed with smiling fans from both schools. Isn't that what Toledo and Akron should be trying to accomplish with an annual game.
What is in it for Toledo some ask?.?. Some snark there would be an easy win. Maybe, maybe not. The all time record between the schools is 12-9 in Toledo's favor. Two of the best games I have ever saw at the Rubber Bowl involved Akron kicking the longest FG in school history for a last second win and Toledo Tom's final season when the Zips won a well played game by both teams.
Maybe the question isn't, what's in it for the Universities of Toledo and Akron, but what is in it for the taxpayers who support these programs? What is in it for the players, students, fans, alumni and general communities for these two schools? Are they not intertwined? I would bet there is a lot more in it for these two schools playing each other than a game against a school like Troy or UNCC or ECU or Purdue or some other school people in Ohio have almost zero interest.
Given the current state of both programs, predicting easy wins for the Rockets doesn't exactly qualify as a snarky comment. Also if you take away Akron's 6 and 0 record against Toledo that occurred before 1939, the 12 and 3 record since then in favor of Toledo suggests it hasn't been a very competitive series (something that is generally required for a true rivalry) since anyone on this board was born.

ALRIGHT; we've moved up two spots in the RPI.

So they ditched a 49 year old with a .517 winning percentage for a 56 year old with a .502 winning percentage? Other than 4 nice seasons, one of which he had handed to him at PCCC, Stan Heath has not been very good.
On the other hand, it will be a nice homecoming and the alums will like it.
I heard the only reason they hired Heath was because they couldn't sign someone older with a sub .500 record.

I’ve watched interviews with the other sports all spring. The last video I saw of Arth was the signing day one. We have saw a couple articles posted through the Beacon but nothing other than that. I know it’s crazy but it needs to change. We just want a weekly update if we can. Not talking about Ohio State coverage but the same coverage as our conference mates. Is that hard to ask for? Like some schools do position breakdowns and that’s a write up. Some people do coordinator interviews and that ain’t the whole spring just at the beginning. All these things don’t require you to have a full staff to do so. You need a SID and local paper or the same person that interview other sports
I have saw your last two posts and you are spot on.

It’s very sad that the fans don’t get updated in nothing. I haven’t seen nothing on Twitter, school website, news paper etc. this is unbelievable to me. I think something has to change how do you support a team that the athletic department, social media don’t even support.
Well said. I have nothing more, to add.

There's that.
We have a serious shot at being the school with the nations worst D1 baseball team AND worst FBS football team.

I will put this hear because it is somewhat relevant to Akron's pay to play schedule. The link is to the supreme court arguments on NCAA athlete compensation. There's a lower court ruling that allows for almost $6000 per year in compensation and unlimited post-grad "internship" payments. But the problem is that every year there's going to be more and more litigation and athletes going to court saying the $6000 isn't enough. Also, they discuss how only a few schools profit from athletics. Not sure how it's going to come out, but I don't think the Supreme Courts wants the federal courts putting the NCAA in receivership and monitor all of this.
I here what you are saying, but the link you have drawn between pay for play and compensating individual players is tenuous.

I think "Clark Griswold" will be our Sister Jean. This is such good news. for the program and the university. He's a popular coach. I fear that COVID set him and the program back a few years and this gives him the opportunity to "reboot" and keep moving forward. I've read that Marshall and Edwards are leaving, but I haven't seen anything on Currie.
Talk about strange twists of fate.... Clark used to date Sister Jean before she became a nun. In fact she said that experience is what drove her to become a nun.

Akron gets smoked by Dayton today to go to 9-7 (3-5). I haven't wacthed the whole thing on ESPN+
Dayton's jerseys remind me of the indoor soccer days.
Hopefully the Zips will do better later this season when they host the Flyers.
Dayton is not as good as the score suggests; their current record is a dismal 9-15.
However, unlike the ZIPS, Dayton did not load their OOC schedule with D2 &3 teams.

Congrats to the Bonnies on being the regular season and tournament champs in the A10.
Pretty sold showing for a middle of the road A10 squad.
OK, so I was wrong.
Fortunately for the Bonnies; VCU, Richmond, Dayton and St.Louis all decided to under-perform this season.

Can’t post the tweet, I’m on my phone. Check Twitter @GoodmanHoops
Is this guy related to Shaka?
I sure hope Marquette isn't really interested in employing either one.

BG men's basketball coach, Michael Huger, should be moving on shortly
Former Xenia star Samari Curtis transferring to Bowling Green
Samari Curtis has a new home again. The former Xenia High School scoring star, who was named Ohio’s Mr. Basketball two years ago, announced Monday he is transferring to Bowling Green.
The search for a college home has been a challenging one for Curtis, a guard who led the GWOC in scoring three times and averaged 33.8 points per game as a senior. He initially committed to Xavier but reconsidered after coach Chris Mack left for Louisville. Curtis then signed with Cincinnati, but he was released from his letter of intent after coach Mick Cronin left for UCLA. Nebraska was the next choice for Curtis, who was impressed in a whirlwind recruitment by newly hired coach Fred Hoiberg. Curtis only played eight games for the Cornhuskers before opting to leave Lincoln, though, and ended up at Evansville.
In another twist of fate, the Aces coach Walter McCarty was fired shortly after Curtis arrived at the school in southwest Indiana. After sitting out a year to satisfy NCAA transfer rules, Curtis played 17 games for the Purple Aces last season. He averaged 10.1 points and shot 38 percent from 3-point range playing for new coach Todd Lickliter. Bowling Green went 14-11 last season in its sixth year under head coach Michael Huger, a BG alum.

How about some 2 point attempts (for a change)?
A really popular coaching strategy now says shoot the 3 or get a layup/dunk - no 2 point shots. I disagree.

Will the New Mexico St game from last season ever be rescheduled? I ask this after noticing the Aggies will be playing Hawaii TWICE this season -- home and away! 🥴 Never heard of such a thing! 🙃
New Mexico State is starting to make a habit of this. They played the Liberty Flames twice in the regular season in both 2018 and 2019, with each team winning one game in 2018 and Liberty winning both in 2019.

Van is one of the top OL in NEO going into his senior season.
Stow actually has 2 of the top OL in NEO, the other being Mason Mennell.
Both 6'4" - 6'5" and ~ 300.
Stow is going to be tough.
If he is that good, I wonder if we are just a placeholder.

I hear our 3rd string kick holder in going to enter the portal tomorrow. Expected to “move up” to either Otterbein of Maine or North Central Pennsylvania Tech. Both are Division 4 powerhouses. Stay tuned.
But, more importantly, does either schools stadium have cleaner bathrooms than ours?

I need to figure out how to watch this one. Feb. 6th was my last day of YouTube TV since they don't have an Indians and Blue Jackets TV contract.
Any suggestions?
Have you considered purchasing season tickets for both the Indians and jackets?
Speaking of which, do you know why they named the team the Columbus Blue Jackets?
Because it was easier to spell than the Columbus Weyapiersenwahs.

I disagree with your first statement. I think if the other team tests positive they should have to forfeit, but if my team tests positive there should be no adverse consequences.
And I'm confused by your second statement. For what would having been in Dayton not be an excuse?
